WAEC Denies Cancelling 2025 WASSCE Results, Labels Claims as Misinformation

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has categorically debunked a viral press statement claiming the cancellation of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results. The council described the circulating information as "false, misleading, and the handiwork of mischief-makers intent on causing confusion among candidates, parents, and the general public."

In an official statement released on Sunday, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, clarified that no decision has been made to cancel the 2025 WASSCE results. She urged stakeholders to disregard the fabricated report and rely solely on verified information from WAEC’s official channels, including its website (www.waec.org.ng) and social media platforms.

“The council remains committed to upholding the integrity of its examinations and ensuring timely communication with candidates and the public,” Mrs. Adesina stated. She further noted that the 2025 WASSCE, conducted between April and June, is currently undergoing standard result processing procedures, with no disruptions reported.

WAEC also warned those spreading the false claims to desist, threatening legal action against individuals or groups found responsible for the misinformation. The council reassured candidates awaiting their results that the grading and release processes are on track, with an announcement on the official release date expected soon.

This development follows a wave of social media posts that falsely alleged the cancellation of the 2025 WASSCE due to unspecified irregularities. WAEC has called on the public to verify information before sharing to prevent unnecessary panic.

For further updates, candidates and stakeholders are advised to visit WAEC’s official website or contact its offices directly.
