*CELEBRATING A RARE GEM AT 70: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MADAM VERONICA OSASUWA*

Today, we celebrate a pillar of strength, a political Amazon, a community mother, and a woman of unshakable resilience—Madam Veronica Osasuwa, as she gracefully marks her 70th birthday, born on November 19th, 1955, in Edo State.

Madam Osasuwa’s life story is one of courage, determination, and extraordinary tenacity. Born brilliant and gifted, she began her primary education with exceptional promise. Unfortunately, like many female children in the olden days, she faced the societal barrier that discouraged girls from pursuing formal education. Yet, that never stopped her from becoming a woman of wisdom, intelligence, and influence.

She later relocated away from her hometown, where she met and married her beloved husband, Pa Osasuwa (late). Together, they built a home founded on hard work, discipline, and dignity. After the passing of her husband, Madam Osasuwa continued to push through life with admirable strength, raising her family and building a legacy that today inspires many.

*A POLITICAL LIONESS WITH OVER 30 YEARS OF LOYALTY*
Madam Osasuwa is not just a mother—she is a political legend in Anifowoshe.
Her political journey dates back to the days of General Babangida and General Abacha’s Zero Party, continuing through AD, AC, ACN, and now APC, making her one of the longest-standing female political voices in the community.
Popularly known by her famous saying,
*“Ojo awo lawo fi gba obe,”*
meaning “A plate must be available to receive soup through the proper place,”
Mama embodies readiness, loyalty, and strategic understanding of politics.
Despite not being Yoruba by origin, she stood firmly with Yoruba political structures when many non-indigenes withdrew. She refused to join ethnic divisions and instead became a bridge-builder. Her loyalty was unshaken even during turbulent moments, such as the last presidential election when many non-indigenous party members discreetly aligned with the Obidient movement. Mama Osasuwa stood strong, side by side with the APC family at Polling Unit 003, Independence Street, Anifowoshe, from morning till night—when many leaders were nowhere to be found.

Her recognition by MHR James Abiodun Faleke, who recently gifted her a Keke Marwa, remains one of the most celebrated political moments in Anifowoshe. It was a long-overdue acknowledgment of her decades of sacrifice and unwavering commitment.
Madam Osasuwa is hardworking, tenacious, fearless, and principled—a woman who never tolerates cheating or injustice. She speaks truth to power and stands firm, whether convenient or not. Her steadfastness has earned her deep respect across political lines.

*A LIFE WORTH CELEBRATING*
*At 70, Mama Veronica Osasuwa stands tall as:*
*A mother to many*
*A loyal party icon*
*A strong voice for fairness*
*A trailblazer for women in grassroots politics*
*A symbol of integrity and courage*

Her life teaches perseverance, her actions inspire loyalty, and her story motivates the younger generation to stay rooted in truth and dedication.
Birthday Wishes

*Today, we celebrate a woman who has given so much to her family, community, and political family. We pray that God grants her:*

And more blessings in the years ahead*

*Happy 70th Birthday to the incomparable Madam Veronica Osasuwa!
A mother, a fighter, a political warrior, and a woman of honour.*

*IKEJA POLITICS: YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND TOMORROW — THE URGENT NEED FOR POLITICAL BALANCING*

*By Pius Ade Babaleye Pab*

Politics in Ikeja Federal Constituency has reached a critical turning point. The recent trend of political imbalance and over-dependence on a single source of power and finance has created a worrying pattern that could threaten the future of progressive politics in Ikeja. If care is not taken, we may not be able to rescue Ikeja from the grip of the opposition in the near future.

The last presidential election serves as a clear warning — we lost gallantly in the constituency that should ordinarily be the stronghold of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the political home base of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This loss was not just a coincidence; it was the result of years of complacency, exclusion, and poor political management.

In today’s Ikeja politics, decision-making and empowerment initiatives seem to revolve around a very small circle. The same set of people are seen at every empowerment program, every strategic meeting, and every benefit-sharing table. It has now become a norm that unless one belongs to a certain caucus, one’s political existence in Ikeja is almost invisible.
While it is true that Hon. James Abiodun Faleke has done a lot and continues to play a vital role in sustaining the political structure in Ikeja, one tree cannot make a forest. Ikeja must learn to build other political philanthropists, empower more leaders, and encourage fresh ideas. Political success must not be tied to one man’s benevolence alone.

The era of self-acclaimed leaders who add little or no value must end. The question remains: what is the impact of these leaders who only show up during elections and disappear afterward? How many voters have they genuinely influenced? How many have they empowered or inspired politically? Ikeja must not continue to depend on the same formula that has failed in the past.

Yesterday, Ikeja stood tall in Lagos politics — a model of organization, loyalty, and performance. Today, however, internal divisions and narrow interests are fast eroding that legacy. Tomorrow will depend on what we do now — whether we continue on the path of selfish politicking or embrace inclusivity, capacity building, and true leadership development.
Ikeja must wake up.

*We must spread the political gospel beyond caucuses and cliques.*

*We must identify and nurture new voices who can stand tall for Ikeja’s progress.*

*The future of Ikeja politics depends on our ability to unite, empower, and evolve beyond dependency politics.*

*It is time for political balancing — time to make Ikeja great again.*

*MOUNTING PRESSURE ON HON. PHILIP OLUWASEGUN MBADIWE IKHISEMOJE TO CONTEST FOR HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, IKEJA FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY*

There is growing political momentum across Ikeja Local Government as residents, particularly from the South-South community and other grassroots groups, continue to mount pressure on Hon. Philip Oluwasegun Mbadiwe Ikhisemoje to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in the forthcoming elections.

Initially, calls from various quarters urged Hon. Ikhisemoje to contest for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Ikeja Constituency II, citing his outstanding record as a former councillor who served diligently and selflessly. However, following wider consultations across political and community structures, the pressure has now shifted towards a higher legislative office — the House of Representatives — as many believe he has the experience, intellect, and compassion to represent Ikeja at the national level.

Community leaders and residents described Hon. Ikhisemoje as a tested and trusted leader whose tenure as councillor remains a reference point for effective grassroots governance. “We knew him when he served as councillor, and he didn’t disappoint us,” one of the South-South leaders in Ikeja stated. “Even after leaving office, despite not holding any political position, he has continued to support people from his personal resources. That is rare in today’s politics.”

The people lamented the state of representation in Ikeja, noting that many residents no longer feel connected to their current representative. “As we speak, most of us don’t even know who is representing us at the National Assembly,” another resident said. “We need a man who is accessible, people-oriented, and passionate about community development. Hon. Philip Ikhisemoje fits that description perfectly.”

The growing calls cut across tribes, religious affiliations, and political alignments within Ikeja, as both the youth and elders rally around him. They believe his emergence would restore true representation, bridge the gap between the leaders and the led, and bring about a renewed sense of inclusion and accountability in governance.

As the political tempo heightens, observers believe that if Hon. Philip Oluwasegun Mbadiwe Ikhisemoje heeds this call, his entrance into the race for the House of Representatives, Ikeja Federal Constituency, will redefine the political equation in Ikeja and rekindle the people’s hope in purposeful leadership.

*MOUNTING PRESSURE ON FITILA IKEJA TO CONTEST FOR HIGHER OFFICE*

*By Pius Ade Babaleye Pab*

Hon. Philip Oluwasegun Mbadiwe Ikhisemoje, popularly known as Fitila Ikeja, continues to attract admiration and overwhelming support from the people of Ikeja Local Government, thanks to his tireless contributions to youth development, education, and community progress. The former Councillor of Ward D, Ikeja, has proven over the years that leadership is not about occupying an office, but about service, compassion, and genuine impact.

Hon. Philip remains one of the most outstanding political figures—appointed, elected, or otherwise—in the history of Ward A. His dedication to grassroots growth and youth empowerment has earned him the respect and trust of the people. Among his many achievements are the organization of several youth-oriented activities and the installation of signposts for Anifowoshe Community Market and Anifowoshe Community Primary School, projects that have significantly improved community identity and visibility.

On 13th February 2025, Hon. Philip took another bold step in promoting unity and sportsmanship by organizing the Father of All Football Competition, where primary schools under Ikeja Local Government came together to compete for the prestigious Unity Cup. The event was a resounding success, bringing smiles to the faces of pupils and teachers alike. In his address, Hon. Philip expressed gratitude to all educators and community members for their steadfast commitment to nurturing the next generation. He also announced plans for more impactful programs, including another major youth event coming up in April 2025.

Hon. Philip’s leadership style continues to set him apart as a true servant of the people. His practical approach to community development serves as a lesson to many political appointees and elected officials—reminding them that public service should be about meaningful action, not empty gestures. As residents have noted, he is not one of those who “organize health services without sharing any drugs”; rather, he delivers tangible results that transform lives and strengthen community bonds.

Today, as a result of his outstanding record, mounting pressure is being placed on Fitila Ikeja to contest for higher office. Initially, several groups across Ikeja called on him to vie for a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Ikeja Constituency II. However, after wider consultations and broad-based support from different quarters, the people are now urging Hon. Philip Ikhisemoje to contest for an even bigger position—the House of Representatives, representing Ikeja Federal Constituency.

In response to this overwhelming demand, Hon. Philip has agreed to heed the people’s call. He has now decided to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Ikeja Federal Constituency. Consultations are currently ongoing to determine the political platform under which he will run.

It is clear that Hon. Philip Ikhisemoje’s track record of service, transparency, and leadership has positioned him as the people’s choice. His name, Fitila, meaning “light,” perfectly describes his role in Ikeja—bringing illumination, direction, and hope to his community.

Hon. Philip Ikhisemoje is not just a politician; he is a builder of people, a promoter of unity, and a symbol of purposeful leadership. His story continues to inspire many within Ikeja and beyond.
