LAPO Is Not Faceless.
A recent incident at a LAPO Microfinance Bank branch highlights the growing threat of online loan scams. A woman, apparently distressed, rushed into the branch, inquiring about online loan options. After being calmed down by the bank's Client Support Officers and the Security Operatives, she shared a disturbing story.
She had been chatted by a faceless individual requesting she take out an individual loan of N400,000 online; and more alarmingly, asked to pay N150, 000 into an account before the loan could be disbursed. Fortunately, the CSOs handled her plagued urge from sending money to the faceless person. Had she succeeded, she would have lost her hard-earned money to scammers and her account details would have been compromised.
LAPO wants to remind its customers that it is not a faceless organization. And its members of staff are not tricksters. The bank advises clients to be aware of fraudulent activities, such as online loan scams. While LAPO has a legit app available on Google Play, its staff members do not provide loan services via social handles or request payments into unverified accounts.
To avoid falling victim to scams, customers should verify the authenticity of financial institutions and their representatives through official websites or branches. Be cautious of requests for upfront payments or sensitive information; and report suspicious activities to relevant authorities or the banks' customer service.
If a loan offer seems too good to be true or requires unusual payment terms, trust your instincts and investigate further. LAPO urges the general public to stay vigilant and be aware of these tactics. Stay safe and stay informed.
