Nigeria is laying the foundation for a nationwide digital transformation with the unveiling of Project Bridge, a 125,000km national fibre backbone network.

The initiative, led by the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, is billed as the largest wholesale, open-access fibre investment by any developing nation.

Project Bridge aims to connect all 774 Local Government Areas with high-speed broadband, integrating seven regional fibre rings to ensure resilience and reduce latency. It is designed to boost connectivity for homes, businesses, schools and healthcare facilities across both urban and rural areas.

According to the Ministry of Education, the reform aims to curb exam malpractice, prevent question leakages, and restore public confidence in Nigeria’s national assessments. The move is part of a wider agenda to strengthen exam integrity, transparency, and technology adoption across all national examination bodies.

The fault affected some 2025 WASSCE results including Mathematics, English Language, Biology and Economics.

WAEC says the portal will be back online within 24 hours after corrections and candidates are advised to reconfirm their results once access is restored. The Council has also debunked false reports of mass cancellations.
