Man Kills Brother for being their Dad's Favourite

https://naijaoutlook.com/man-kills-brother-for-being-their-dads-favourite/

A 20 year old man, Ibrahim Abdullahi has confessed to killing his elder brother Kadade Abdullahi at Amana Maikasuwa Village in Kaduna State for being the favorite of their father.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari
The suspect who confessed to being a cattle rustler and alleged kidnapper was arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT) headed by a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari. He was arrested alongside one 22 year Old Hassan Amadu over the murder of Kadede. The duo belong to a five man gang that carried out the murder.
Ibrahim admitted during police interrogation to masterminding the robbery and killing of his elder brother because he is his father’s favourite. He also confessed to belonging to a gang that specialises in robbery, kidnapping and cattle rustling.
Ibrahim said;
“My father is married to four wives and has many children. I don’t know what is special about Kadade that our father wouldn’t ever take care of his other children without rubbing it on our faces that he is special.”
“I was sent to Arabic school in Kaduna, while only Kadade attended primary and secondary schools. My father said it was not necessary for other of his children to go to school because he wanted every one of us to become farmers. And yet, he was always the first person to insult and call us illiterates, saying we couldn’t speak English Language. How can I speak English Language when my father did not send me to school? I only learnt how to cultivate corn and rear cows. I had to get married to convince him that I was old enough to handle responsibilities.”
“As soon as I got married, my father gave me only 20 cows and two plots of land. The reason I carried out the killing of my blood brother with the help of my gang members was because our father trusted my late brother much more than he trusts me. It is also because of the sum of N1.7million which our father made from selling his cattle that was kept with my brother.”
“He sold some cows and made N1.7million and was making noise about it. My father was also very happy about it and asked him to keep the entire money.”
“We expected him to share the money. That day I was so broke and asked my father for money. He started insulting me and asked me to learn to be responsible like Kadade.”
“I was so bitter and I immediately called a member of our gang, Haruna and told him about the money in my house. I asked them to come and also make sure that they kill my brother.”
“Although I now regret my action but I thought that his death would make my father allow me to control some of his businesses. My father was devastated but I consoled him that it was Allah’s wish.”
“In the morning, I went to the bush to meet them and they told me that it was only N300,000 that they found with my brother. I collected N100,000 as my share since I was the one who brought the job.“

Gov Uzodimma Says Paying Governors, Speakers pension is illegal and anti-people

https://naijaoutlook.com/gov-uzodimma-says-paying-governors-speakers-pension-is-illegal-and-anti-people/

The governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma has said that paying governors and speakers pension is illegal and anti-people. He made the statement yesterday at the government house where he disclosed that his government-sponsored the bill on the repeal of Governors and Speakers Pensions and Privileges law of 2007 because it was illegal and designed to allow a few privileged people feed fat on the commonwealth of the people.
The governor assented to the bill repealing the Pensions law which was passed by the House of Assembly on Thursday saying the law was against the Pensions act which stipulates that only those who have put in a minimum of 10 years in public service are entitled to pensions, adding that former governors and Speakers stay in office for a maximum of eight years wondering how the same people who collect fat severance allowances at the end of their tenure can turn around to be paid Pensions as well. He said further,
“As a young state grappling with enormous challenges, it dawned on me that the Imo state Governors and Speakers Pensions and Privileges law No 5 of 2007 was a bad omen. At the age our Governors and Speakers are leaving office it will not be out of place to assume that many of them will be alive and kicking in the next 15 years or more. This will mean that by then the state will have more than 20 governors and Speakers qualified for Pensions and Privileges I was alarmed that the financial implications for the state will not only be scandalous but indefensible. My simple calculation told me that there could come a time when the state could be spending more than one-third of its resources to maintain former Governors and Speakers.”
“The same Governors and Speakers also received severance allowances, amounting to several millions of Naira, when they disengage from office. How then can the same category of former public office holders turn around to receive Pensions? Even more importantly the Pensions act is very clear that only those who have served in the public service for a minimum of 10-years are pensionable. Paying governors, speakers, and their deputies who spend a maximum of eight years or less in the office is actually criminal because it is against the law of the land. It is noteworthy that I am supposed to benefit from this law when I leave office as governor. Yet I called for its repeal and this should leave no one in doubt that I am acting in the best interest of our state and our people. I believe that those of us who have had the privilege of occupying exalted positions must be human enough to resist the temptation of feeding fat from the lean resources of the state at the expense of the people. We must know when to say enough is enough and I cannot condone such a law; history and his conscience will not forgive him if he did not act in the interest of the people.
He added
“I had no choice but to ask for its repeal as part of my government’s recovery agenda. Yes, I needed to recover the billions of public funds that would have been lavished on a privileged few and plow it back to more important business of developing our state.”

Ondo Court Terminates 16-year-old Schoolgirl’s Marriage to Cleric as Ninth Wife

Betty Akeredolu, Wife of Governor of Ondo State
A family court in Akure, Ondo State has forcefully terminated a forced marriage of a 16 year old secondary school girl to an Islamic cleric, Alhaji Yusuf Lateef who is already married to eight wives.
Alhaji Yusuf Lateef sought the girl’s hand in marriage from her parents in 2019 when she was only 15 and in secondary school. Her parents reportedly accepted the proposal of the Islamic cleric despite protest from the girl. She thereafter fled their Ore home on the day fixed for the marriage with support from her brother to Akure, the Ondo State capital.
She was advised by sympathizers to lodge a complaint with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. The Ministry is said to have sheltered the girl, name withheld and liaise with Ondo State Justice Ministry to file a legal action to stop the marriage.
Subsequently, Alhaji Lateef and the girl’s parents were arraigned at the Family Court for breaching Part Three of Ondo State 2007 Child Rights Law. The three man panel court led by Justice Aderemi Adegoroye after listening to the defendants ruled that the girl be returned to her parents for proper care and education. The court also warned that Alhaji Lateef be made to sign an undertaking to stay away from the girl henceforth and to ensure that no harm comes her way.
The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Titilola Adeyemi, on hearing the courts’ verdict said
“This is victory for children in the state; we are excited the matter has gone that way. That will be a warning to everybody that it is NO to child marriage in Ondo State. Child marriage is denying a child her future. We must make sure we work for the child to realise her future.”
The girl said she intended to further her education as well as be a good woman in the future. She was handed back to her parents after staying away from them for one month.

CAR KILLS MAN MAKING VIDEO TO GIRLFRIEND ON BUSY HIGHWAY

https://naijaoutlook.com/car-kills-man-making-video-to-girlfriend-on-busy-highway/

This is a tragic reminder to everyone making a call across a busy highway to trade with caution. A heartbroken tragedy occurred on Wednesday on Adedero village on Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Expressway, when a 26 year old man, Mr Olajide Asade, was killed by an oncoming commercial car while he was making a video call to his girlfriend.
An eye witness informs us that the deceased and his brother were traveling in a commercial vehicle that developed a mechanical fault on the road.
It was learned that the other passengers stood by the roadside waiting for the driver to fix the vehicle when the deceased who was distracted by the video call to his girlfriend reportedly crossed the road where he was hit by a Honda Odyssey car with number plate AAA 589 FV conveying crates of eggs.
The deceased’s brother, Azeez, who accompanied him on the trip, said they were both traveling to their mother’s residence in the Ajah, Lagos State and that his brother had been making a video call to his girlfriend since they took off from Kuto in Abeokuta early in the morning.
Azeez also maintained that the driver of the car, who hit his brother was not speeding when his brother rams into the oncoming vehicle.
The driver of the Honda vehicle, Balogun, an employee of an agro firm, said he was going to the Obasanjo Farm to purchase crates of eggs for his company when the deceased bumped into his vehicle. He said, “the deceased had already got to the front of his car before he could apply the brake”.
The Public Relations Officer of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the incident said there were two male occupants in the vehicle that killed Olajide.
He said, eyewitnesses, reported that “Olajide was on a call while crossing the road and was knocked down by a vehicle heading for Abeokuta”.
“There is a road diversion along the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu interchange due to the ongoing reconstruction; the deceased probably assumed it would be better and safer for him to cross to the other side, where road reconstruction is ongoing.
“The man, while crossing back to the other side of the road, was making a video call and was oblivious to the fact that a vehicle was coming from the Sagamu end to Abeokuta.
“The vehicle, a Honda Odyssey, hit him and he died on the spot.
“His co**se has been deposited in the morgue of the General Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, while the driver of the Honda Odyssey and the vehicle are now at the state Motor Traffic Division, Ibara, Abeokuta.”
Please, readers, you have to be cautious while making calls on a highway.
