I never imagined I would meet my husband at Wuse Market. I had gone there that day to buy new pillows. Ayobami was driving out of the market with a friend when he spotted me. He tried to get my attention, but I ignored. I wasn’t in the mood to talk to strangers in the middle of a busy market.
His friend took it upon himself to jump out of the car and chase after me and somehow convinced me to give him my number for Ayobami. That same day, Ayobami texted me. We made plans to meet, and what was meant to be a quick chat turned into hours of talking. We had our first date, and after a long conversation, we discovered our families knew each other. Then, right in the middle of the date, he said, “God told me I would meet my wife and I would know the moment I see her, and in this moment, I know.”
I laughed, thinking to myself, Abuja boys have come again.
But there was something different about him: honest, funny, and calming. We’ve been inseparable ever since.
