President Tinubu Marks Eid-el-Kabir 2026 with Message of Sacrifice, Economic Renewal and Security Assurance
Abuja, May 27, 2026 — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and around the world on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir 2026, urging citizens to embrace the festival’s core values of faith, sacrifice, selflessness, unity and compassion.
In an official State House statement released on Monday, May 26, President Tinubu gave thanks to Almighty God for preserving lives to witness another Eid celebration. He drew direct inspiration from the story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), highlighting the Prophet’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail in obedience to Allah as the ultimate example of devotion.
“Eid-el-Kabir reminds us of the enduring virtues exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim—faith, obedience, and the willingness to sacrifice for a higher purpose,” the President said. “This sacred festival calls on all Muslims, and indeed all Nigerians and the whole of humanity, to embrace sacrifice, selflessness, unity, and compassion for our fellow human beings.”
The President linked the spirit of Eid to Nigeria’s ongoing national journey, describing the government’s economic reforms as “challenging but necessary” for building a stronger and more prosperous future. He declared that the sacrifices of the past three years are now producing visible results.
“The sacrifices and efforts we have made over the past three years have yielded a more stable economy, making our country a preferred investment destination that will drive job creation and economic growth,” Tinubu stated. “The walk through the dark tunnel is over, and the light is here.”
He expressed confidence that continued reforms would bring improved security and greater opportunities for all Nigerians.
Acknowledging that security challenges remain, with terrorists and bandits still attacking some communities despite recent successes such as the elimination of a wanted ISIS leader, the President reassured citizens: “You are neither abandoned nor forgotten. We will ultimately defeat all the forces of evil.”
President Tinubu called on Muslims to use the sacred occasion for prayers — for the country, for peace in communities, and for wisdom for those in leadership. He also urged citizens to reach out to the less privileged, share with neighbours, and strengthen bonds of brotherhood.
“My administration remains committed to building a Nigeria where all citizens can live in peace, worship freely, and pursue their dreams without fear,” he affirmed. “We will continue to invest in security, infrastructure, agriculture, and human capital to fulfil the great promise of our great nation.”
The message concluded with best wishes for a peaceful and joyous celebration.
“On behalf of the government, I wish you all a peaceful, joyous, and blessed Eid al-Kabir. May Allah accept our sacrifices and prayers, and may He continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Eid Mubarak! Happy Sallah!”
The full statement was issued under the President’s signature and has been widely circulated by the Presidency and major Nigerian media outlets. Public holidays for Eid-el-Kabir were earlier declared for Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28, 2026.
