Dear Nigerians,

In a few hours, I will sign four landmark tax reform bills into law, ushering in a bold new era of economic governance in our country.

These reforms go beyond streamlining tax codes. They deliver the first major, pro-people tax cuts in a generation, targeted relief for low-income earners, small businesses, and families working hard to make ends meet.

The four bills - the Nigeria Tax Bill (Fair Taxation), Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill, will unify our fragmented tax system, eliminate wasteful duplications, cut red tape, restore investor confidence, and entrench transparency and coordination at every level.

For too long, our tax system has been a patchwork—complex, inequitable, and burdensome. It has weighed down the vulnerable and shielded inefficiency. That era ends today.

We are laying the foundation for a tax regime that is fair, transparent, and fit for a modern, ambitious Nigeria. A tax regime that rewards enterprise, protects the vulnerable, and mobilises revenue without punishing productivity.

We are also building a framework for the Nigeria of tomorrow — leaner, fairer, and laser-focused on unlocking opportunities for all.

I commend the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform Committee for its tireless work, the National Assembly for its rigorous review, our subnational partners for their critical contributions, and, most importantly, the Nigerian people for keeping faith with this vision of reform.

However, this is a beginning, not an end.

We are not just signing tax bills but rewriting the social contract. We are not there yet, but we are firmly on the road.

This is our rallying cry: Simplify. Reform. Grow.

Let the world know that Nigeria is open for business, and this time, everyone has a fair shot.

We are betting on a new Nigeria and building it block by block.

– Bola Ahmed Tinubu
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

At CGC's 2023 Conference:

We'll Deploy Data To Address Deficiencies In Policymaking, Says President Tinubu

* Promises to transform Nigeria into hub of export/import activities

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has hinted at plans by his administration to address what he termed historical inadequacies of policymaking hitherto thwarted by a lack of comprehensive data in Nigeria.

He regretted the lack of comprehensive data, saying it had been "a technological affliction" that has hindered the growth trajectory of Nigeria and the entire Africa, impeding the ability to make informed governance decisions.

President Tinubu disclosed this on Thursday during the 2023 Comptroller-General of Customs Annual Conference at Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, saying because data is the guiding light in the ever-evolving landscape of the modern world, Nigeria can no longer afford to function in the dark.

The President who was represented at the conference by his deputy, Vice President Kashim Shettima, noted that the grand vision of his administration is to deploy data to make sound government decisions.

Shettima described Tinubu as an "accounting virtuoso" with an unparalleled understanding of data and its significance to piloting the affairs of the country, noting that it is due to his knowledge of data as the invaluable gold of the 21st century that the President strategically appointed "tech-savvy Nigerians" into critical government positions in order to ensure strategic planning.

He stated: "Even before we were given this mandate, we knew that every facet of our lives is woven with data. We must not only commit to deploying data to make decisions within the government but also address the historical inadequacies of Nigerian policymaking, often impeded by a lack of comprehensive data. Our current governance landscape demands a transformative intervention, and the solution is what has brought us together today.

"There’s no doubt that the chiming of this clock of modernity is inviting us to take action. It’s inviting us to adopt evidence-based processes and innovative strategies to align policies with the objectives of this administration, to streamline decision-making, and to resolve conflict arising from misinformation and inconsistent policies within the government."

President Tinubu also underscored the need for the integration of complex data to interpret the patterns of transactions and interactions in international trade, just as he disclosed plans by his administration to turn Nigeria into a hub of export and import activities.

Observing that the benefits of comprehensive data go beyond determining revenue generation, he said, "Data provides the sharpest lens for us to connect the dots, even in establishing the security of our borders. We can easily determine the traffic of people and goods around a specific border and share indisputable information with other nations with just a punch on our computers.

"Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, I assure you that we remain resolute in our belief that Nigeria is unequivocally on track not only to accumulate terabytes of factual surveys but also to establish a robust public service system that upholds data integrity at its core.

"Our ambition extends beyond accumulation; it extends to transformation. We aspire to position Nigeria as the preferred destination for all stakeholders involved in export and import activities overseen by the Customs."

Expressing delight with efforts by the Nigerian Customs Service to accumulate large amount of data to shape a public service system that upholds data integrity at its core, the President noted that the first step is to invest in the training and capacity-building of "Customs officers to stand shoulder to shoulder, terabyte by terabyte, with the best minds in the world."

Declaring the conference open, he expressed hope that discussions at the annual event would "set the trajectory for a new era in the Nigeria Customs Service".

Earlier, the Customs CG, BA Adeniyi, while welcoming participants at the event, said the significance of technology in global Customs operation cannot be overemphasised and hence the Nigeria Customs' adaptation to global requisitions.

He expressed optimism that the Theme of this year's conference would provide guiding standards and principles in helping the Nigerian government open the frontiers, as it is requisite that the Customs streamline and integrate its services in its bid for global service delivery.

In his goodwill message, the Director General of the World Customs Organisation (WCO), Dr Kunio Mikuriya, praised the Nigerian Customs for upscaling global service delivery in maritime service delivery.

He said he was optimistic that given the dedication and commitment of the Nigeria Custom in adopting technology as a major leeway in global trade, it was just a matter of time before Nigeria became the reference point in Africa's Customs revolution.

Also speaking at the event, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, promised that Lagos would continue to adapt to innovations and changing times in global trade.

He promised to ensure seamless infrastructure and a conducive environment to enable the Nigeria Customs Services to not only match global standards and yearnings but to also make the organisation the best in the world.

He praised Customs for adopting technology, stressing that thinking out of the box remains critical to Nigeria's sustainability and growth, hence the belief that CGC's theme for 2023 is not only commendable but indeed poignant in Nigeria's quest for world growth and development.

On his part, the Ooni of Ife, HRH, Oba Adeye Enitan Ogunwusi, praised the commitment of the leadership of the Nigeria Customs to aiding the Tinubu administration in achieving its set eight-point agenda.

He advocated a special economic status for Lagos State, given its contributions to the nation's economy in terms of revenue generation and developmental impact.

Also in attendance were Chairman, Senate Committee on Customs, Sen. Isa Jibrin; Chairman, House Committee on Customs, Hon. Leke Abejide; Secretary, World Customs Service, Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, and Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Manasseh Daniel Jatau.

Others are His Royal Highness, Oba of Ilaro, Oba Olugbenle Olu; former Minister of Information Alhaji Lai Mohammed, and former Comptrollers of the Nigeria Customs Service, among others.

Renaissance of Boki/Ikom: Unveiling Victor Abang's 100-Day Legacy and Beyond

In the vibrant landscapes of Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency, Hon. Victor Abang has ushered in a transformative era during his initial one hundred days in office. Positioned as a catalyst for progressive leadership, Abang's dynamic approach has left an indelible mark on the governance landscape. Examining his achievements, it becomes apparent that Abang's tenure is defined by a steadfast commitment to liberal democracy and a comprehensive strategy for human capital development.

A cornerstone of Victor Abang's term is his legislative prowess, evident in the sponsorship of four bills and two motions within the first hundred days. The bills include: (1) Federal College of Agriculture and Forestry, Okundi, Cross River State (Establishment) Bill, 2023, (2) Federal College of Education (Technical) Ikom, CRS, (Establishment) Bill, 2023, (3) National Service Park Act (Amendment) Bill, 2023, (4) Federal Medical Centres (Amendment) Bill, 2023.

The motions are: (1) Demarcation and Ceding of Danare and Biajua Communities in Boki LGA of Cross River State of Nigeria through Pillar 113A to the Republic of Cameroon, (2) Request for Prioritizing the completion of the Specialist Hospital in Ikom, Cross River State by NDDC. These accomplishments in less than 100 days not only showcase the MP's legislative acumen but also set the stage for a progressive era in the constituency.

Abang's legislative initiatives span a spectrum of issues, demonstrating a nuanced understanding of the constituency's challenges and a focus on sustainable solutions. His responsiveness to constituents' needs is evident, translating their aspirations into tangible legislative actions.

Beyond the legislative realm, Abang champions grassroots empowerment, unveiling a groundbreaking initiative: the distribution of cars to the APC chapter chairmen of Boki and Ikom and motorbikes to the 22 ward chairmen of the party on Saturday, August 19, 2023. This strategic move enhances political mobility and tackles practical challenges faced in navigating the diverse constituency terrain, catalyzing a more dynamic and responsive political landscape.

At the heart of Victor Abang's political philosophy lies a commitment to liberal democracy, emphasizing individual freedoms, equality, and the rule of law. This philosophy underpins his human capital development efforts, envisioning an active and engaged citizenry. His focus on job creation, micro-business development, medical aid, and financial support aligns with the principles of liberal democracy, fostering an environment where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive.

Abang's emphasis on job creation reflects his dedication to alleviating poverty and fostering economic independence. On the 6th of July 2023, the forward-thinking MP appointed twenty-nine (29) liaison officers to the constituency office in Ikom and thirteen (13) administrative staff to foster effective administration in the Abuja office. Also, he encourages entrepreneurship and supports micro-business development, envisioning a resilient local economy that focuses on human capital advancement.

Investing in healthcare infrastructure and ensuring access to medical services, Abang addresses immediate health concerns while laying the foundation for a robust and resilient community. Within a short period, he has set up a mobile health system where constituents have access to medical aid.

Financial support initiatives further demonstrate Abang's commitment to inclusivity, breaking down barriers that hinder progress and recognizing society's strength in caring for its most vulnerable members. Given this, the progressive MP, in line with the Federal Government's quest to reduce poverty, has activated a smart cash transfer system for the vulnerable in Boki/Ikom to ease the pain of economic hardship experienced by most citizens in the federal constituency.

Finally, as we commemorate one hundred days of Victor Abang's tenure, it is evident that his vision extends beyond representation. It is a vision of a constituency thriving on the principles of liberal democracy, where every citizen has the opportunity to prosper. Abang's legislative achievements, grassroots empowerment initiatives, and human capital development efforts collectively depict a leader dedicated to holistic and transformative governance. The spotlight on Boki/Ikom reveals not just a representative but an architect of progress and prosperity.

My dear Ndi Igbo people..
My SouthEast People.
Asiwaju is the only man that can quench the madness displayed by those so called IPOB boys and restore peace and order around the region.

Don't play politics of centiment and tribalism.
As you prepare your minds for election, think about those of your brother who can't relocate from home and are compelled to stay back with their lives permanently under risk and death threats.

It breaks my heart to see innocent people being killed every day around the region. This monster was created due to your negligence and today its consuming almost everyone, not sparing even the relatives of those sympathising with them.

You need a president who can put a stop to this bedevilling act. A president who will be bold enough to condemn their acts. You don't need an Igbo president to achieve this, rather you need a president who has the SouthEastheners in mind.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is that man.
Vote him for the liberation our your region.
Vote him for Peace and Order in SouthEast.

‘Follow man wey know road’ – Shettima tells Nigerians at 2022 NBA conference

The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Bola Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate, Kashim Shettima , Monday, has advised Nigerians to vote for the candidate that has the capacity to turn Nigeria around for good.

Shettima said this at the 62nd Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference held at Eko Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Former Borno state governor also said his combination with the APC National Leader, if elected next year, will replicate the “wonders” they performed when they were respective governors of Borno and Lagos states.

He spoke on a panel session immediately after the Peoples Democratic Party’s Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar; and shortly before the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi; amongst other panelists.

Shettima said, “Nigerians have the capability to see through the worn-out rhetoric and sophistry of pretentious politicians. Nigerians should follow the man wey know the road. From day one, we will hit the ground running. We’ll promptly address the issue of the economy, ecology, and security.

“And we have the antecedents. I built some of the best schools in Nigeria. Go to Borno and see wonders; you will never believe that it is a state in a state of war.

“So, we are going to replicate our achievements in Lagos, in Borno and some of the frontline states so that our nation will be a better place. The fundamental issue is pure leadership.”
