SHOCKING: Tinubu Missing as Peter Obi and Rival Candidates Sign Historic Peace Accord for 2027 Elections

In a dramatic scene that has set tongues wagging across Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was conspicuously absent on Tuesday as presidential candidates and political party leaders gathered in Abuja to sign the First National Peace Accord ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While the incumbent APC candidate stayed away and sent Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to represent him, opposition heavyweight Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) showed up in person, rolled up his sleeves, and appended his signature alongside other aspirants including Omoyele Sowore (AAC), Adewole Adebayo (SDP), and several party chairmen.

The high-profile ceremony, organized by the National Peace Committee under the chairmanship of former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar and convened by Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, took place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre just one day before the official start of campaigns.

The accord commits all signatories to peaceful, issue-based campaigns, zero tolerance for violence, hate speech, ethnic or religious incitement, and the rejection of fake news or personal attacks. It is designed to ensure that the 2027 polls reflect the true will of the Nigerian people without bloodshed or chaos.

Peter Obi used the moment to demand credible elections where every vote counts and urged Nigerians to punish any politician who violates the peace deal by simply refusing to vote for them. “You can’t answer ‘His Excellency’ without being an excellent person,” he declared, stressing that candidates must conduct themselves in a manner worthy of the office they seek.

Meanwhile, Atiku Abubakar of the ADC was also absent, adding further intrigue to the day’s events. Tinubu, through his representative, reaffirmed his commitment to the principles of the accord and called for elections that are not a “do-or-die” affair.

As Nigeria edges closer to another high-stakes election cycle, the optics of the sitting President skipping the peace table while his main challengers stood firm has raised eyebrows and fueled intense debate online and offline.

Is this a strategic move, a scheduling conflict, or a telling signal about the road ahead? Nigerians are watching closely.

WILL TINUBU’S U.S. FILES BE FULLY RELEASED?

The controversy over President Bola Tinubu’s records in the United States is still ongoing.

A U.S. court has ordered the FBI and DEA to process and release records connected to Tinubu after a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) case was filed.

The FBI reportedly found about 2,500 pages of documents that may be relevant. Some records have already been released, but it does not mean that everything has been made public.

Some documents may still be withheld or have parts removed because of U.S. laws.

The big question is now: Will all the remaining records about Tinubu be released to the public?

Many Nigerians are watching the case closely because they want to know what is contained in the records.

Until the U.S. authorities release everything they are legally required to release, the issue remains open.

TINUBU CONGRATULATES ADELEKE, HAILS OSUN VOTERS, INEC AND OTHER CONTESTANTS AFTER ELECTION VICTORY

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the outcome of the just-concluded governorship election as a strong affirmation of the people’s democratic choice.

President Tinubu disclosed that he personally called Governor Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his victory, noting that the result once again demonstrates the confidence the people of Osun State have in his leadership.

While wishing Adeleke success in his second term, the President urged him to rise above partisan considerations and unite the people of Osun State for the task of building a more prosperous, peaceful and stable state.

According to Tinubu, now that the election is over, Governor Adeleke must extend his hand of fellowship to all Osun people, irrespective of how they voted, and rally them toward greater economic growth, social development and stability.

The President also commended the courage and discipline displayed by the other contestants, stressing that their participation strengthened Nigeria’s democratic culture and enriched the electoral process.

He said the outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and represents another important assurance that democracy can continue to flourish in Nigeria.

Tinubu further applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.

The President's message comes as Osun moves beyond the contest and into the next phase of governance, with renewed calls for political reconciliation, unity and development.

“May our democracy continue to thrive and be strengthened. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

BREAKING: NUC APPROVES 33 NEW UNIVERSITIES AS NIGERIA’S LICENSED UNIVERSITIES RISE TO 309

Nigeria’s higher education landscape is set for a major expansion following the approval of 33 new universities by the National Universities Commission (NUC), bringing the total number of licensed universities in the country to 309.

The newly approved institutions comprise 7 federal universities, 6 state universities and 20 private universities, a development expected to create additional admission opportunities for thousands of Nigerians who struggle to secure university places every year.

7 NEW FEDERAL UNIVERSITIES

• Federal University of Environment and Technology, Ogoni -Rivers State
• Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies, Iragbiji -Osun State
• Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti -Ekiti State
• Federal University of Health Sciences, Kachia -Kaduna State
• Federal University of Education, Osiele -Ogun State
• Federal University of Science and Technology, Eruwa -Oyo State
• Federal University of Health Sciences, Tsafe -Zamfara State

6 NEW STATE UNIVERSITIES

• Abdulsalam Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action, Mokwa -Niger State
• Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Ihugh
• Cross River University of Education and Entrepreneurship, Akamkpa
• Ebonyi State University of ICT, Science and Technology, Oferekpe
• University of Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering, Ezza -Ebonyi State
• University of Innovation, Science and Technology, Omuma -Imo State

20 NEW PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES

• Leadership University, Abuja
• Jimoh Babalola University, Ilorin
• Bridget University, Mbaise
• Greenland University, Jalingo
• JEFAP University, Suleja
• Azione Verde University, Amaigbo

• Lens University, Ilemona

• Southern Atlantic University, Uyo
• University of Fortune, Igbotako
• Minaret University, Ikirun

• Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management, Lagos
• Monarch University, Iyesi-Ota
• Tonnie Iredia University of Communication, Benin City
• City University, Ayetoro
• New City University, Ayetoro

The development comes at a time when demand for university education continues to surge, with large numbers of qualified candidates unable to secure admission because of limited capacity in existing institutions.

However, education stakeholders have warned that increasing the number of universities must go hand in hand with quality. Adequate funding, modern infrastructure, research facilities, qualified academic staff, effective regulation and strong quality assurance mechanisms will be critical to ensuring that the expansion translates into meaningful educational outcomes.

Beyond approving the new institutions, the NUC also approved 879 new academic programmes under the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS).

The revised framework introduces a 70:30 curriculum structure—70 percent based on nationally prescribed core content and 30 percent allowing individual universities to develop programmes reflecting their institutional strengths and priorities.

The curriculum reforms also place greater emphasis on digital literacy, entrepreneurship, innovation, aeronautics, environmental studies, health sciences and other emerging fields, with the aim of equipping Nigerian graduates with skills relevant to the demands of the modern global economy.

With 309 licensed universities, Nigeria now has one of Africa’s largest university systems.

But the big question is, will the rapid expansion of universities translate into better-quality education, employable graduates and stronger human capital for Nigeria? Share your thoughts

MESSI RETURNS TO THE PITCH DAYS AFTER FATHER’S BURIAL; BUT HIS FUTURE HANGS IN THE BALANCE

Lionel Messi has returned to action for Inter Miami just days after burying his father, Jorge Messi, in an emotional comeback that has left the football world reflecting on the superstar’s future.

Messi, 39, travelled back to Argentina following the death of his father, who was 68 and had been his agent since the Argentine icon was just 14. He attended the private funeral in Rosario on Sunday before returning to the United States.

The football legend had missed Inter Miami’s 2–1 defeat to Monterrey in the Leagues Cup but made himself available for the crucial clash against León, coming on at half-time.

However, Messi’s return could not rescue Inter Miami, who suffered a 3–2 home defeat, ending their hopes of progressing beyond the opening stage of the Leagues Cup for the first time since the competition was expanded in 2023.

Messi famously joined Inter Miami in 2023 and immediately made history by leading the club to its first-ever Leagues Cup trophy.

“I’M REALLY NOT SURE…”

What has made Messi’s return even more emotional is his recent admission about his football future.

In a heartfelt social media message following his father’s death, Messi expressed uncertainty over how much longer he would continue playing at the highest level.

“I’m really not sure if I’ll carry on doing it for much longer.”

The statement has intensified speculation that one of football’s greatest-ever players could be approaching the final chapter of his extraordinary career.

Jorge Messi was more than just Lionel’s father. He was a central figure in his son’s journey from a young footballer in Rosario to a global icon, World Cup champion and multiple-time Ballon d’Or winner.

He was also there to celebrate when Messi finally achieved his lifelong dream of winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina.

Messi previously revealed that his father, despite his worsening health, had encouraged him to play in one final World Cup. Argentina subsequently reached the final of this summer’s tournament but lost 1–0 after extra time to Spain.

“WE TRY TO STAY CLOSE TO HIM”

Inter Miami midfielder Yannick Bright admitted that Messi’s decision to return so quickly surprised his teammates.

Bright said the players understood the difficult circumstances and were determined to stand by their captain.

“It’s a tough situation. We try to stay close to him and support him as much as we can, but it’s a lot.”

León manager Javier Gandolfi also praised Messi for returning to the pitch despite his personal loss, describing him as a unique individual whose strength and character were once again on display.

For Messi, this was far more than another football match.

It was a return to the pitch while carrying the weight of losing the man who had stood beside him throughout much of his remarkable journey.

Is this the beginning of the end for Lionel Messi’s legendary career, or will the football icon continue for a few more seasons?

₦97 MILLION CYBER FRAUD OPERATION: NIGERIAN NATIONAL ARRESTED IN INDIA AS ‘FAKE WOMAN’ ROMANCE SCAM IS EXPOSED!

A major cyber-fraud investigation in India has taken a dramatic turn after authorities arrested a 37-year-old Nigerian national allegedly linked to a sophisticated scam operation targeting victims through fake social media identities.

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) arrested Nwogu Obed Osinachi, a native of Imo State, Nigeria, from Kamal Vihar, Burari, Delhi, on August 11. He was wanted in connection with an alleged cyber-fraud case registered at Madeyganj Police Station in Lucknow.

According to investigators, the alleged operation followed a carefully designed romance-and-customs scam.

The victim was reportedly first contacted on Facebook by a woman using the name “Doris William,” who claimed to be from England. After gaining the victim’s trust, the fake persona allegedly promised to send expensive gifts, dollars and pounds to India.

Then came the twist.

The victim was allegedly told that the parcel had been intercepted at an airport because it contained valuable gifts and foreign currency. The fraudsters reportedly switched identities, posing as customs and Income Tax officials, and demanded payments for customs duties, income tax, GST and other supposed clearance charges.

Investigators allege that the victim was eventually defrauded of about ₹68 lakh (approximately ₦97 million).

The STF said the investigation led them from Lucknow to Delhi, where they allegedly uncovered a wider network involving Nigerian nationals. Two alleged associates, Uchenwa and Obase Prosper, had previously been arrested in connection with the same case.

During Osinachi’s arrest, investigators reportedly seized 11 mobile phones, a laptop, a passport, four ATM cards and 34 screenshots. The screenshots allegedly contained photographs and videos of foreign women purportedly used to create fake social-media identities, as well as materials connected to the alleged impersonation of government officials.

Investigators further allege that the group used Indian bank accounts obtained on rent to receive money from victims, potentially making it more difficult to trace the actual beneficiaries.

Osinachi reportedly told investigators that he entered India on a business visa in 2022 but remained in the country after his visa expired. He also reportedly admitted involvement in the alleged ₹68-lakh fraud alongside the two previously arrested suspects.

The case is another stark reminder that online relationships, foreign-gift promises and demands for “customs clearance” payments can be carefully engineered traps.

Never send money to someone you have only met online, especially when the payment is tied to an unexpected parcel, customs fee, tax or emergency request.

TRUMP: “USA HAS TOTAL CONTROL OF STRAIT OF HORMUZ” ; IRAN “CAN DO NOTHING,” HE DECLARES

U.S. President Donald Trump has delivered a stunning warning to Iran, declaring that the United States has “total control” of the Strait of Hormuz and suggesting that Washington intends to maintain its grip on the strategic waterway.

Trump described the U.S. naval blockade as a “Wall of Steel”, claiming Iran lacks the military strength to challenge it. He further alleged that Iran’s navy and air force have been crippled, the IRGC has been severely weakened, and the country’s leadership is uncertain.

The president also painted a grim picture of Iran’s economy, accusing the country of having “no money” and suffering from soaring inflation, while dismissing Tehran as a former regional bully that is now “all talk and no action.”

His explosive remarks are likely to intensify concerns over the already volatile situation in the Middle East and the strategic Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy routes.

Trump’s message is that Washington intends to project overwhelming military power and he believes Iran has little ability to stop it.
