Chemical Exfoliant Recipe for Dark Hands and Legs

Ingredients:

• Glycolic Acid (10%) – An alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that exfoliates the top layer of the skin and improves texture and pigmentation.
• Lactic Acid (5%) – A milder AHA that hydrates and gently exfoliates, improving skin tone.
• Salicylic Acid (2%) – A beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that penetrates deeper into pores to exfoliate and clear out impurities, helping with pigmentation and smoother skin.
• Niacinamide (5%) – Helps brighten skin tone, reduce dark spots, and strengthen the skin barrier.
• Glycerin (5%) – A humectant that hydrates the skin and helps reduce irritation caused by exfoliants.
• Aloe Vera Gel (10%) – Soothes the skin and reduces inflammation.
• Distilled Water (63%) – Acts as the solvent for mixing ingredients.
• Preservative (As per manufacturer’s instructions) – Necessary for preventing bacterial growth.

Instructions:

1. Mixing the Acids: In a clean bowl, carefully mix the glycolic acid, lactic acid, and salicylic acid.
2. Adding Hydrating Ingredients: Add glycerin and aloe vera gel to the acid mixture to help with hydration and soothing effects.
3. Niacinamide Addition: Mix niacinamide into the solution to boost brightening and improve skin tone.
4. Diluting with Water: Slowly add distilled water to the mixture, ensuring everything is well blended.
5. Preservative: Finally, add the appropriate preservative based on the manufacturer’s recommendation.
6. Storage: Pour the mixture into an airtight container and store it in a cool, dry place.

How to Use:

• Patch Test First: Apply a small amount of the mixture on the inner arm or behind the ear and wait 24 hours to ensure there’s no irritation.
• Application: Apply the chemical exfoliant to clean, dry skin on your hands and legs. Use a cotton pad or your fingertips to spread the product evenly.
• Leave-on Time: Allow the exfoliant to sit for 10-15 minutes (adjust based on skin tolerance), then rinse off with lukewarm water.
• Frequency: Start using it once a week, then gradually increase to 2-3 times per week as your skin builds tolerance.
• Moisturize: Always follow with a moisturizing cream or lotion to prevent dryness and irritation.
• Sunscreen: Because chemical exfoliants can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, always apply broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) on treated areas if they are exposed to sunlight.

Precautions:

• Avoid using with other exfoliants or retinoids in the same routine, as it can lead to irritation.
• Hydration is key: Be sure to moisturize well after using chemical exfoliants to maintain the skin barrier.
• Sun protection is critical to avoid further darkening and pigmentation.

Optional Add-Ons:

• Alpha Arbutin (2%): Can be added for additional skin-brightening properties.
• Licorice Extract (5%): Helps reduce dark spots and soothe the skin.

This chemical exfoliant will help with cell turnover, reduce dark spots, and even out your skin tone on the hands and legs over time.
