Allah knows everything from eternity, past, present, future, and every choice you’ll ever make. So whatever happens was already “written” in His knowledge.
How, then, can dua change anything?
Think of it like this: Imagine a doctor tells you, “If you don’t take this medicine, you’ll stay sick, but if you take it, you’ll get better.” The doctor already knows whether you’ll take the medicine or not. If you do take it and recover, did you “change” what the doctor knew? No your choice to take the medicine (and the recovery) was part of what he knew all along.
Dua works exactly like that medicine:
• Allah decreed a difficulty for you.
• But He also decreed: “If My servant calls upon Me sincerely, I will remove it or replace it with something better.
• When you make dua, you’re taking the “medicine” He prescribed.
• The relief that comes wasn’t a surprise to Allah
He planned it from the beginning, conditioned on your dua.
From Allah’s perspective, nothing changed — everything went exactly as He eternally knew. From your perspective, dua completely changed your situation.
Real-Life Example
A person is diagnosed with a serious illness (written in the decree). They make intense dua, cry in sujood, and beg Allah night after night. Months later, the doctors are shocked the illness is gone.
Did dua change destiny? Yes, from our view, it did. But Allah knew from eternity that this person would make that dua, and He wrote the cure because of it.
Why This Matters
Allah didn’t make dua pointless. He made it powerful on purpose:
• It shows your dependence on Him that’s the heart of worship.
• It lets you actively participate in your own story.
• It gives hope: No matter how fixed things seem, your plea can shift them.
