THE FIRST HEALING THAT TOOK PLACE IN MY MINISTRY - Kathryn Kuhlman
I saw God’s provision for healing in the Bible, but I could not see scriptural healing taking place as I watched many evangelists who had long healing lines. Whether or not I ever saw a miracle, however, I knew that provision was made for the healing of the physical according to the Word of God. No one being healed did not alter God’s Word one iota. If I lived and died and never saw a miracle of healing of the physical, it would not change God’s Word. God said it. He made provision for it. It was there in His Word and I wanted it. I had to experience it for myself.
I began to seek earnestly for the answer, attending many services, and one in particular stands out in my memory. I went there seeking but I did not find what I sought. I began to weep and left the meeting still weeping, having no control of my tears. All that I could seem to say were the same words that Mary Magdalene uttered when she found the tomb empty on that first Easter morning:
“They have taken away my Lord and I know not where they have laid him” (John 20:2).
All that night I wept uncontrollably. I cried all the next day. I could not stop. I was so hungry and so thirsty for the answers to my questions, and I knew God promised, “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6). I was confident therefore that God would not mock that hunger in my heart, so I did not give up seeking. I knew the answer was there for me. I was determined to wait on God.
And then it happened! It was in Franklin, Pennsylvania, in the old Billy Sunday Tabernacle. Think what a place God chose. I was standing on the same platform where Billy Sunday had stood preaching the gospel years and years previous to that night. I had gone to Franklin by faith, not knowing what I would find there. In the first service there were only thirty-eight people. In the next service there were nearly two hundred people. After that the tabernacle never held the crowds.
It was in that third service, as I was preaching on the Holy Spirit, sharing with the people the little that I knew about that Third Person of the Trinity, that a woman stood up and asked, “Kathryn, may I say something?”
I answered, “Of course you may.”
She stated very simply, “Last night while you were preaching, I was healed.”
I was shocked. I asked, “How do you know?”
She replied: “Because I had a tumor that had been diagnosed by my doctor. While you were preaching, something happened in my body and I was so sure that I was healed that I went back to my doctor and had it verified today. He could not find a tumor!”
That was the first healing that took place in this ministry. It happened without the laying on of hands, without any special prayer. It just happened as a woman sat in the audience in Franklin, Pennsylvania, while I was preaching on the power of the Holy Spirit. Since that time there have been thousands and thousands of healings.
What is the secret? It is the Third Person of the Trinity!
The services continued in Franklin and the next great miracle took place the following Sunday. That was when I realized something was happening, that I had tapped some great spiritual resource. I was not sure just how it happened, but I knew the Holy Spirit had something to do with it. Oh, the thrill, the joy, the expectancy that was mine! But there was so little that I knew and understood about this Person of the Trinity.
