IKOT EKPENE CHAIRMAN COMMENDS ROTARY CLUB, TAKES DELIVERY OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT
The Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom has commended the Rotary Club of Uyo Metropolis for the philanthropic donation of medical equipment to health centre in the local government area.
Receiving the medical equipment today 18th September, 2025 at the Primary Health Centre , Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Hon. Nkom said the medical equipment will aid in eradicating infants mortality, enhance the work of the health workers and improving access to quality healthcare for our people.
Speaking through the Vice Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Obonganwan Abigail Akpan, the chairman described the humanitarian service of the Rotary club as intentional, aligning with his administration’s commitment to advance healthcare services in the area, especially in the payment of medical bills for concerned indigenes, supplies of mothercare packs to nursing mothers, and other medical consumables and materials.
The event organized by a medical outfit, Premier Medical Services in partnership with Rotary Club of Uyo Metropolis on Maternal and Child Health Project is aimed at training of health personnel on infants resuscitation and donation of medical equipment to designated primary healthcare centres.
Speaking earlier, the President of the Rotary Club of Uyo Metropolis, District 9142, Rotary Uyai Francis, said the program is initiated to train Health personnel on Infant Resuscitation techniques in order to strengthen the capacity of frontline workers in neonatal emergency care as well donate essential medical items and supplies to ten select health centres within the local government area to improve service delivery and patient outcomes, as Ikot Ekpene is the seventh local government area visited.
While presenting the medical equipment to the Council, the Ambassador for Rotary Maternal and Child Health Project, MD, Premier Medical Service, Prof. Nsikak Udokang said, the initiative together with our project partner, seeks to support the local government's efforts in reducing maternal and child morbidity and mortality while enhancing healthcare access at the grassroots level
Prof. Udokang while disclosing that the equipment are manually and battery powered in order to avoid electricity fluctuations, explained the different functions of the the items. He also said, his Hospital is conducting a voluntary service to provide advanced training for two maternal nurses from the centre at his medical facility, and they will serve as trainer to their colleagues across the local health centres.
The Director of Health appreciated the organizers for the donation, and assured them of effective utilisation and maintenance of the equipment.
Equipment donated included, Sphygmomanometer, Fetal Doppler , Delivery tray, Rectangular holder with cover, two Artery forceps, Episiotomy scissors, Tissue forceps, Gallipot with cover, Needle holder, two Digital Thermometer, Pedal suction machine , and Stethoscope.
