President Donald Trump seems ready to shift the blame to fellow Republicans if the GOP suffers a major defeat in the 2026 midterm elections.
Per CNN, his own policies and approval ratings threaten to weigh down the GOP but the president has repeatedly suggested that congressional Republicans are to be blamed if voters turn against the party in November.
How Donald Trump is shifting the blame on fellow Republicans
Trump seems to already be laying the groundwork for his argument. Earlier this month, he told Punchbowl News that voters were angry at Republicans and insisted they were not angry at him.
The question is, will (people) vote? Because a lot of them are very angry at Republicans, to be honest with you," Trump said. He added, "They're angry at Republicans, but they're not angry at me."
