The first red flag wasn’t loud.
It was subtle.
The way he would disappear for hours and come back like nothing happened.
The way he apologized without changing.
The way her stomach tightened whenever his phone lit up.
But she told herself something dangerous:
“Love requires patience.”
Her friends noticed.
“He doesn’t prioritize you.”
“He’s inconsistent.”
“He makes you anxious.”
She defended him every time.
“He’s just stressed.”
“He’s been hurt before.”
“He’s trying.”
But deep down?
She wasn’t confused.
She was negotiating with reality.
Because admitting the truth would mean losing him.
And she wasn’t ready for that.
