Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 De Ultimate) — A Fuji Icon and Proud Father
This touching image of Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, cradling his child offers a glimpse into the personal life of one of Nigeria’s most celebrated Fuji musicians. Born on March 3, 1957, in Agarawu, Lagos State, K1's musical journey began early—he started performing at the age of 8 and honed his skills under the mentorship of Ayinde Barrister, the pioneer of Fuji music, as a member of the Supreme Fuji Commanders from 1975 to 1978.
K1 is widely credited with modernizing and globalizing the genre through his unique "Talazo Fuji" style, which introduced smoother instrumentals and faster rhythms, making Fuji more appealing to younger, urban audiences. Over the decades, he has released over 80 albums, becoming a household name across Nigeria and beyond.
His impact has earned him numerous honors:
King of Fuji Music title at NTA Ibadan in 1993
First Mayegun of Yorubaland in 2020, bestowed by the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi
Beyond the stage, moments like this one—holding his child with tenderness—highlight the family side of an artist often seen commanding stages and entertaining crowds. It’s a reminder that legends, too, are fathers, nurturers, and deeply rooted in the values of love, heritage, and continuity.
