Kwara Mass@cre : 78 Bodies Given Mass Burial in Kaiama LGA
Residents of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have recovered the bodies of 78 victims following a d+adly att+ck by armed bandits on Tuesday.
The corpses were laid to rest after funeral prayers (janazah) were held around 6:30pm on Wednesday, shortly before the evening prayer.
The lawmaker representing Gwanabe/Gwaria constituency, Hon. Saidu Baba Ahmed, who witnessed the exercise, confirmed the development.
According to him, the recovered bodies comprised 75 males and three females, while 35 residents, mostly women, were abd¥cted and taken into the bush.
“We have recovered 78 corpses – 75 males and three females. We performed janazah around 6.30pm and have begun burying them in batches. Some were given mass burials in groups of 10, 15 and 20,” Ahmed said.
He added that available information suggested the d+ath toll could rise to about 170, as residents were still searching nearby forests for more bodies. He noted that many survivors had fled into the bush for safety.
Sources disclosed that two children of the village head were among those k+lled. They also revealed that the monarch’s palace, houses and shops were set abl@ze by the att+ckers.
A community leader and former lawmaker, Hon. Aliyu Mande, described the tragedy as devastating, insisting that the casualty figure was higher than earlier reports.
“The casualties are more than 40. It is about 86, and two children of the village head were among the victims. One of them had just graduated from the School of Nursing in 2025,” he said.
Mande added that the scale of destr¥ction and loss of lives was “huge and unimaginable,” while security operatives, including soldiers and forest guards, have taken over the affected communities.
