THE BALM OF GILEAD
Text: “Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?” — Jeremiah 8:22
The prophet Jeremiah cried out in sorrow over the condition of God’s people. They were wounded, broken, and spiritually sick. Yet the question he asked still echoes today: Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there?
Gilead was known for its healing balm — a precious ointment used to treat wounds. But Jeremiah’s cry was not just about physical medicine. It was about spiritual healing. The people had turned away from God, and their souls were suffering.
Today, many are wounded — not on the outside, but within. Wounds of disappointment, betrayal, fear, guilt, and discouragement. The good news is this: There is balm in Gilead. There is healing in God.
Jesus Christ is our Great Physician. He heals broken hearts, restores weary souls, and forgives sins. What human strength cannot fix, God’s grace can restore. What medicine cannot cure, His mercy can heal.
No matter how deep the wound, God’s healing power is deeper. No matter how long the pain has lasted, His restoration is greater.
🙏 Prayer
Lord, I bring my wounds to You today. Heal every broken place in my heart. Restore my soul and renew my strength. Be my Balm of Gilead and my Great Physician. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
🌿 Reflection
Whatever you are facing today, remember:
There is balm in Gilead. There is healing in God.
