+++Economy: We didn’t promise “silver bullet”-Finance Minister - The Sun
Minister of Finance and the Coordinating Minister of Economy, Wale Edun, said the government didn’t promise “silver bullet” in the beginning of the administration, as regards the economy, thus justifying the hardship being experienced in Nigeria due to some economic policies of the government.
Edun stated this at the opening ceremony of the 65th annual conference of the Nigeria Economic Society (NES) in Abuja, on Tuesday, with the theme “Social Economic Development in Nigeria; Implications, Imperatives and Impacts”.
Edun who was represented by Grace Ogbonna, the Director, Economic Research and Policy Management, admitted that Nigeria is seriously faced with several economic dislocation, and that was because of several years of leadership failure, stressing that the government is taking tough decisions to strengthen the economy, hence the fuel subsidy removal and other economic policies.

The Nigeria Police Force, on Tuesday, called on the wanted British national, Andrew Wynne, to come out of his hiding and surrender to the police for questioning if his hands are clean.
This Police also waved aside the claim by Wynne that no invitation was extended to him before declaring him wanted pointing out that the police invited him several times before declaring him wanted.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi said, “”Mr Wynne was contacted many times and he refused to show up even after his workshop was raided.

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu rtd on Tuesday, September 3rd 2024, said the Commission will no longer be a rubber stamp for irregular means of promotion in the Nigeria Police Force.
He declared that “merit based on passing of prescribed examination and other basic requirements will now count on the promotion of Officers and Men of the Nigeria Police Force.
He noted that “there is nothing like special promotion anywhere around the world stressing that the Commission under his watch will not encourage it.
The PSC Chairman who spoke when he received a delegation of members of the executive of the Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria emphasized that “special promotions is henceforth abolished in the Nigeria Police Force”.

The governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party have slammed former Rivers State Governor, and Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and labelled his threats as unbridled and irresponsible.
On August 24, the PDP Governors’ Forum expressed support for Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, and called on the party’s NWC to grant him his “rightful” position as the leader of the party in the state.
In response, Wike announced over the weekend at the PDP secretariat in Port Harcourt that he would take firm action against PDP-controlled states that threatened his political structure in the state.
Meanwhile, the forum, in a statement by its Director General, Emmanuel Agbo on Tuesday, labelled Wike’s threat as completely unacceptable.

The Federal Government on Tuesday signed two Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with a Chinese Company, Mutual Commitment Company (MCC) limited on renewable energy.
This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Bolaji Tunji, Special Adviser on Strategic Communication and Media Relations to the Minister of Power in Abuja.
The MoUs were facilitated and signed in Beijing at the African-China Co-operation Summit by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), an agency of the Ministry of Power.

The president of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote has boasted that the quality of Dangote Refinery’s Premium Motor Spirit will match that of the United States, and other parts of the world.
Dangote said this on Tuesday during a press conference to announce the official production of petrol at the 650,000 barrels per day facility.

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association (IPMAN) has decried the current petrol scarcity experienced across the country.
Ukadike Chinedu, Publicity Secretary of IPMAN, said the private marketers, like citizens, are suffering as a result of the current petrol scarcity.
He said IPMAN was worried that despite the good conditions of the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries, the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited has yet to start refining crude oil to address the re-occurring fuel scarcity.
Speaking on Television, he noted that only if the refineries start working would petrol scarcity be addressed in the country.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) Tuesday raised the pump price of petrol to N897 per litre from the official price of N617.
This is coming days after the national oil company said it was heavily constrained by the huge debt it owes international suppliers. The debt is estimated to be $6.8 billion
THISDAY observed that many NNPC filling stations in Abuja had already effected the prices, with its downstream facilities selling for N897.
However, independent filling stations were selling for between N930 and N950 when THISDAY visited several filling stations in Abuja.

DAILY POST observed that commuters at various bus stops in Abuja were scrambling for commercial vehicles.
“It is painful. I have been here since 4 pm but I have not seen the vehicle to end back home. It’s now obvious that the government does not care about the people. President Bola Ahmed is wicked for implementing another fuel price hike” Bernard Ezeokafor said.

The Nigerian Army has assured that its efforts against oil theft and illegal bunkering are yielding desired results.
Maj.-Gen. Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, communicated this in a statement yesterday in Port Harcourt.
Abdussalam said he received in his office, retired GOC Maj.-Gen. Jamil Sarham. He highlighted increased crude oil production as evidence of their success, noting that the Federal Government aimed to boost daily production to 2 million barrels.

The Ekiti State Government, has warned communities experiencing inter- communal boundary disputes against resorting to thuggery and vandalism, saying such tendencies will no longer be tolerated to forestall unwarranted crises in the state .
The government threatened that whoever found destroying crops or displaying act of hooliganism on disputed farmlands would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
The Deputy Governor, Monisade Afuye, gave the directive in Ado Ekiti, on Tuesday, while interfacing with stakeholders from Iloro, Odo- Owa and Ejiyan Ekiti in Ijero Local Government Area over an escalating boundary dispute among the communities .

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has advised partisan police officers who abandon their core professional responsibilities to pursue vested political interests to know that the enmity they fuel and eventually create will hurt them in the long run.
Fubara maintained that police officers are engaged and trained as professionals to protect lives and property while contributing to the desired peace in the state as a patriotic duty.
Fubara gave the advice at the inauguration and formal handover of 100 operational vehicles acquired by his administration to the Rivers State Police Command at the Sharks Football Stadium in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

++22,000 Nigerians affected by invalidation of degrees from Togo, Benin — CSO - Vanguard
The decision to invalidate degree certificates obtained from some universities in Togo and Benin Republic from 2017 till date has left over 22,000 Nigerian graduates of the institutions confused and with their fate hanging in the balance, it was gathered.
A group, the Coalition of Stakeholders in Education, CSE, stated this in Ikeja, Lagos on Tuesday while briefing the press on the matter.
The group has therefore asked the federal government to rethink the matter and reverse the blanket ban on the certificates from higher institutions in the two West African nations.

The management of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, in Odogbolu local government area of Ogun State, has rusticated 25 students and indefinitely suspended 58 others for various misconducts, including forgery, threats to life, examination malpractices, and other fraudulent acts.
A statement issued by the institution’s Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Mr Dapo Òkè, revealed that, The disciplinary actions were recommended by the Examination Malpractice and Students’ Disciplinary Committee and approved by the Senate of the university at its statutory meeting on 31st July 2024.
While the affected students have been instructed to stay away from the university, the statement warned that any student who fails to comply with this directive will have to contend with the law and the institution’s security personnel.

++Police Arrest Herbalist Over Alleged R**e Of ‘Client’ In Adamawa - Leadership
Operatives of the Adamawa Police Command have arrested a 49-year-old herbalist, Suleiman Manzo, over allegation bordering on r**e.
The arrest of the suspect who is popularly called Suleiman Makeri, a resident of Mallam Nura ward in Numan town, followed complaint of his sexually abusing one of his clients, a 22-year-old woman who went to seek traditional medication.
According to the unnamed survivor who spent almost a week in a ward constructed for patients in the suspect’s residence, the herbalist sexually abused her after administering a scent that made her unconscious.
The survivor added that after recovery, she realised that she had been sexually abused by the herbalist.
++Man electrocuted vandalising transformer, cables in Benue - The Sun
A middle-aged man has been electrocuted while attempting to vandalize Jos Electricity Distribution Company, (JEDC) transformer and cables in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The young man who is yet- to- be- identified was seen dead at the early hours of yesterday electrocuted by the transformer located opposite Queens Hotel, Ankpa ward, Makurdi.
Witnesses said the vandal’s lifeless body seen in between the two poles connecting the cables to the transformer mounted closed to the main road.
++Corporal killed as gunmen bomb Anambra police station, civic centre - The Sun
A Police corporal was killed following the attack and bombing of Police Divisional Headquarters of Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State by suspected secessionist gunmen.
The gunmen also attacked the Oba Civic Centre managed by the Town Union leadership of the community even as further casualties could not be ascertained.
Sources said the gunmen, heavily armed, stormed the area in the early hours launching ferocious attack on the police division.

++NFF appoints Aliyu Zubairu as Flying Eagles’ head coach - The Guardian
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), yesterday, appointed El-Kanemi’s Football Club’s coach, Aliyu Zubairu, as head coach of the national U-20 boys’ team, Flying Eagles.
The appointment of Zubairu, who led El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri to win the President Federation Cup at the expense of Abia Warriors FC in Lagos in June, takes immediate effect.
Zubairu’s immediate task is to put together and prepare a team for the WAFU B U20 Championship, scheduled for October/November in Togo, where the zone’s representative will emerge for next year’s Africa U20 Cup of Nations
