OSSIEC DECLARES PDP AS WINNER IN OSUN LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION

The Chairman,Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC, Mr Hasim Abioye has declared that the candidates of People's Democratic Party,PDP won the vacant seat of the Thirty Local Government Areas of the State.

Also, the People Democratic Party, PDP Councillorship Candidates emerged as winners of the 332 wards.

Mr. Abioye stated this while declaring the results of the Election to Newsmen in Osogbo.


He emphasized that the Election was conducted in compliance with Constitutional Provisions, extant Laws and guidelines to fill the vacancies in the Three Hundred and Thirty Two wards and the Thirty Local Government Areas of the State.

The OSSIEC Boss appreciated the People of Osun State for trooping Out enmasse to participate in the Election.

He also lauded the Inter - Party Advisory Council IPAC, Members of the Forum of State Independent Electoral Commission of Nigeria ,Civil Society Groups, Independent Observers and the media community.

Sketchy reports linked the dastardly act to politics.

The killing took place in the wake of the chairmanship election in the ancient city of Ilesa

The body of Ife had been evacuated from the scene of the incident by the police.

ADELEKE URGES RESIDENTS TO PERFORM THEIR CIVIC WITHOUT FEAR IN THE OSUN CHAIRMANSHIP ELECTION

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, cast his vote today in the ongoing Local Government Elections across the state.

The Governor, who arrived at his polling unit in Sagba/Abogunde Ward 2, Unit 9, Ede, was accredited before exercising his civic duty.

The election, which is expected to determine the leadership at the grassroots level, has witnessed a significant turnout of voters amidst tight security and electoral monitoring.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after casting his vote, Governor Adeleke urged all eligible voters to exercise their franchise peacefully.

He emphasized the importance of grassroots democracy and called on the people to participate actively without fear or intimidation.

The Governor who described the Election process seamless, commended the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC, for a job well done, encouraging all and sundry to come out and vote peacefully, as this he said is a crucial step in strengthening the nation's democracy at the local level.

Meanwhile, the Osun State chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC has berated the State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP over an enrolled order granted by an Ilesa High Court presided over Justice Adeyinka Aderibigbe asking the State Independent Electoral Commission to proceed with the planned local government poll .

Reacting in a release made available to Newsmen by the Chairman of APC in Osun State, Mr.Tajudeen Lawal described the court order as “fake and inglorious”, noting that it “a joke taken too far.”

Mr. Lawal emphasized that Nigeria statutes do not prescribe that a lower court should override an Appeal court judgement.

“APC in Osun has therefore called for firmness with which the security agents have been enforcing the February 10, 2025 Court of Appeal judgement that reinstated the cruelly sacked local government political functionaries by Governor Adeleke in 2022,” Mr.Tajudeen Lawal said.

OSIEC MAINTAINS STATUS QUO ON OSUN CHAIRMANSHIP ELECTION

The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC, has advised members of the public to disregard the fake news in circulation that the premises of the Commission have been sealed off by the Nigerian Army.

A statement by the OSSIEC Information Officer, Mrs. Sadiat Isiaka, indicates that the Commission is well secure and safe as evident in the heavy presence of inter-agency security personnel comprising the combined team of the police, DSS, NSCDC, NDLEA, Amotekun Corps and the Vigilante group.

OSSIEC maintains that the fake news was a propaganda concocted by some people to mis-inform and create panic among the electorate, which should not be taken seriously.

The Commission commends the security agencies for providing adequate security for the staff, facilities and election materials at OSSIEC.

The OSSIEC assures the people of Osun State that the election will hold as scheduled, as such, no misinformation should inhibit the people from participating in the democratic process.

Minister of Finance and the Coordinating Minister of Economy, Wale Edun, said the government didn’t promise “silver bullet” in the beginning of the administration, as regards the economy, thus justifying the hardship being experienced in Nigeria due to some economic policies of the government.

Edun stated this at the opening ceremony of the 65th annual conference of the Nigeria Economic Society (NES) in Abuja, on Tuesday, with the theme “Social Economic Development in Nigeria; Implications, Imperatives and Impacts”.

Edun who was represented by Grace Ogbonna, the Director, Economic Research and Policy Management, admitted that Nigeria is seriously faced with several economic dislocation, and that was because of several years of leadership failure, stressing that the government is taking tough decisions to strengthen the economy, hence the fuel subsidy removal and other economic policies.

He said IPMAN was worried that despite the good conditions of the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries, the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited has yet to start refining crude oil to address the re-occurring fuel scarcity.

Speaking on Television, he noted that only if the refineries start working would petrol scarcity be addressed in the country.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) Tuesday raised the pump price of petrol to N897 per litre from the official price of N617.

This is coming days after the national oil company said it was heavily constrained by the huge debt it owes international suppliers. The debt is estimated to be $6.8 billion

THISDAY observed that many NNPC filling stations in Abuja had already effected the prices, with its downstream facilities selling for N897.

However, independent filling stations were selling for between N930 and N950 when THISDAY visited several filling stations in Abuja.

The decision to invalidate degree certificates obtained from some universities in Togo and Benin Republic from 2017 till date has left over 22,000 Nigerian graduates of the institutions confused and with their fate hanging in the balance, it was gathered.

A group, the Coalition of Stakeholders in Education, CSE, stated this in Ikeja, Lagos on Tuesday while briefing the press on the matter.

The group has therefore asked the federal government to rethink the matter and reverse the blanket ban on the certificates from higher institutions in the two West African nations.

The management of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, in Odogbolu local government area of Ogun State, has rusticated 25 students and indefinitely suspended 58 others for various misconducts, including forgery, threats to life, examination malpractices, and other fraudulent acts.

A statement issued by the institution’s Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Mr Dapo Òkè, revealed that, The disciplinary actions were recommended by the Examination Malpractice and Students’ Disciplinary Committee and approved by the Senate of the university at its statutory meeting on 31st July 2024.

While the affected students have been instructed to stay away from the university, the statement warned that any student who fails to comply with this directive will have to contend with the law and the institution’s security personnel.

++Police Arrest Herbalist Over Alleged R**e Of ‘Client’ In Adamawa - Leadership

Operatives of the Adamawa Police Command have arrested a 49-year-old herbalist, Suleiman Manzo, over allegation bordering on r**e.

The arrest of the suspect who is popularly called Suleiman Makeri, a resident of Mallam Nura ward in Numan town, followed complaint of his sexually abusing one of his clients, a 22-year-old woman who went to seek traditional medication.

According to the unnamed survivor who spent almost a week in a ward constructed for patients in the suspect’s residence, the herbalist sexually abused her after administering a scent that made her unconscious.

The survivor added that after recovery, she realised that she had been sexually abused by the herbalist.

A middle-aged man has been electrocuted while attempting to vandalize Jos Electricity Distribution Company, (JEDC) transformer and cables in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

The young man who is yet- to- be- identified was seen dead at the early hours of yesterday electrocuted by the transformer located opposite Queens Hotel, Ankpa ward, Makurdi.

Witnesses said the vandal’s lifeless body seen in between the two poles connecting the cables to the transformer mounted closed to the main road.

Justice Emeka Nwite ordered that the defendants, including a pregnant woman, Angel Innocent, be remanded in Kuje and Suleja correctional centres till September 11 for the hearing of their bail applications.

The Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, Mr Hasim Abioye, on Monday, inaugurated a committee to verify the certificates and other documents of contestants participating in the forthcoming local government elections in the state. Addressing the committee members shortly before the inauguration of the 18-member group, headed by Mr Abdul-Lateef Olayanju in Osogbo,Osun State, Abioye stated that the committee would examine the documents and other papers submitted by political parties and their candidates for the elections.

The OSSIEC Chairman noted that the high-level committee comprised individuals of high integrity who have served and continue to serve their country in various capacities.

Expressing confidence in the committee’s ability to fulfil its mandate, Abioye also mentioned that the report of the exercise would be made public.

House of Representatives member Alhassan Ado Doguwa (APC, Doguwa/Tudun Wada federal constituency) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct elections for the third tier of government to ensure transparency.

In a statement that he made available to journalists on Monday, the lawmaker advocated the need to deepen democracy at the grassroots, insisting that the only way to do that is for the national electoral umpire to take charge.

Some laws governing the local government administration needed to be reviewed, according to Doguwa, who is the chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum (Downstream).

He expressed hope that a functional local government system would curb the ever-worsening urban migration.

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has arrested the headmaster of Gaidar Makada Special Primary School in the Kumbotso Local Government Area.

The headmaster, whose name was withheld, was accused of unlawfully auctioning government assets.

PCACC’s spokesperson, Kabir Abba, said the arrest followed a complaint that the headmaster was selling the school’s vital assets when the state government is struggling to address the gaps in the provision of furniture at public schools.

Mr Abba said that the commission was investigating the issue and trying to recover the stolen furniture.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has asked HND graduates not to hold it responsible for their inability to participate in the recent National Youth Service Corps.

The board was responding to claims by the prospective NYSC candidates that it was responsible for their inability to participate in the mandatory one-year NYSC scheme.

“It is important to emphasize that JAMB has no involvement, authority, or control over the admissions process for HND candidates, “the board explained in a statement, on Monday, by its spokesman, Fabian Benjamin.

++Resident doctors resume work after one week of strike action - Daily Post

Members of the Association of Resident Doctors across the country, on Monday, resumed duty after a one-week strike action to press the federal authorities for the release of two of their members in kidnappers captivity.

Three members were initially abducted, but one was later released after payment of ransom.

The victims have so far spent eight months, according to credible sources.

In a telephone chat with DAILY POST in Ilorin on Monday, the chairman of the association at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital branch, Dr Muhammed Yusuf, said the association is giving the government another three-week ultimatum to resolve the issue.

++Ogun: Suspected kidnapper r**es, machete 17 years old girl to death - Daily Post

The Ogun State Police Command on Monday confirmed the death of 17-year-old Habeebah Akinsanya who was allegedly kidnapped in the Kemta area of the state.

The deceased was reported missing by her father, Akinsanya Aremu, a So Safe Corps, to the Kemta Police Division at about 9:30pm on Friday.

Habeebah, a student at Lisabi Grammar School in Abeokuta, will be entering SS3 on September 16 and turning 17 in October.

DAILY POST reports that the Habeebah was found r**ed before being macheted to death on Sunday at her father’s farm around Mile 6, a community that is a few metres away from Ogun State Television, Abeokuta.

The Divisional Police Officer of Kemta Division, Abeokuta, Olawale Famobuwa confirmed the incident on Monday, saying the division had begun investigation.
