Gov AbdulRazaq Endorses Yahaya Seriki as Preferred Successor Ahead of APC Governorship Primary
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has announced his endorsement for Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki as his preferred successor ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026.
The governor announced the endorsement in a statement issued on Tuesday following what he stated as extensive consultations with party leaders and structures across the state.
According to his press release on his verified Facebook account and obtained by RESH GLOBAL MEDIA, Yahaya Seriki possesses the leadership qualities and political experience required to sustain the achievements of the current administration and consolidate the progress recorded under the APC government in Kwara State.
“Young, pro-people, astute, and broad-minded, Amb. Yahaya Seriki has been a great political mobiliser with profound investments in and extensive goodwill among the people of Kwara State,” the governor stated.
“I have no doubt about his capacity and that his choice is appropriate for the people of our state at this time,” he added.
Governor AbdulRazaq, however, clarified that the endorsement does not prevent other aspirants from participating in the APC governorship primary.
He urged party members and stakeholders to support the choice of Yahaya Seriki in the interest of party cohesion, unity, and continuity.
“While this does not in any way preclude all other aspirants from contesting in the primaries, I urge members and leaders to affirm the choice of Seriki as our candidate for cohesion, unity, and continuous success of the party,” the statement read.
The governor also stressed that the endorsement should not be interpreted as a rejection of other governorship aspirants within the party.
According to him, all aspirants seeking the APC ticket are qualified and have demonstrated commitment to the growth and development of the state.
“The choice of Amb. Yahaya Seriki is neither a disapproval of any of our eminently qualified aspirants nor a whimsical attempt to delegitimise the noble aspirations of our people,” he said.
Governor AbdulRazaq further commended the aspirants for their maturity, discipline, and commitment to the ideals of the party ahead of the primary election.
He noted that the aspirants have shown impressive capacity and readiness to build on the achievements of his administration over the last seven years.
