GOC 2 DIVISION VISITS ERUKU, OMU - ARAN, COMMUNITIES, ASSURES NIGERIAN ARMY'S CONTINUOUS SECURITY SUPPORT
In efforts towards sustaining security of lives and property of Nigerians within 2 Division Area of Responsibility (AOR), on 16 September, 2025, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, visited Ekiti, Ifelodun and Irepodun LGAs of Kwara State. The visit was aimed at collaborating with relevant stakeholders to address the security concerns within the areas.
The King of Eruku kingdom, in Ekiti LGA, His Royal Highness, Oba Busar Ayinde Oyediran Olarenwaju, noted that his community is saddled with the challenges of kidnapping for ransom, destruction of farm crops, and threat to lives. He thanked the GOC for his continuous strive to ensure adequate security of the area. Similarly, during the GOC's visit to Omu - Aran community, in Ifelodun LGA, the Olomu of Omu - Aran, His Royal Highness, Abdulraheem Oladele Adeoti, stated that insecurity largely caused by activities of bandits constitute major challenges of Omu - Aran community. Both monarchs, appreciated the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for the NA's active involvement in protecting lives and property of their communities, and Nigerians in general. They appealed to the GOC to lend his voice for possible establishment of Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in the areas, saying it would assist in ammeliorating the current security challenges bedeviling their people.
In his remarks, Major General Nnebeife, applauded the efforts of the communities to organise local vigilante groups who collaborate with the NA, Nigerian Police Force (NPF), and other security agencies to sustain security in the areas. He urged them not to take laws into their hands no matter the circumstances; rather, all activities of criminal elements should be reported to relevant government authorities for necessary actions. The GOC also added that security is the collective responsibility of everyone, urging the kings to impress on their subjects to contribute towards effective security by availing relevant security agencies with credible information that would aid in effectively securing their communities. He assured that the NA will continue to intensify efforts to ensure lives and property are adequately protected.
