Kwara Police Arrest 4 Suspected Robbers, Recover Stolen Motorcycle, Hunt Gang Leader
The Kwara State Police Command has arrested four suspected robbers and recovered a stolen motorcycle following a violent attack on two commuters along the Ali Weree Camp axis of Ifelodun Local Government Area.
According to Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, Public Relations Officer Kwara State Police Command, the incident occurred on 4th June 2026 at about 8:00pm when two commuters returning from a market were attacked by a group of armed men wielding sticks and cutlasses.
The assailants inflicted injuries on the victims and forcefully dispossessed them of their motorcycle before fleeing the scene.
She added that upon receipt of the report, operatives of the Command immediately launched a coordinated operation in collaboration with personnel of the National Forest Security Service operating within the area. The operation led to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle and the arrest of four suspects identified as Umaru Haruna, Habibu Kale, Kire Yelwa, and Iliyasu Gambo.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspects acted in concert during the commission of the crime. The statement further revealed that one Sumo, identified as the leader of the criminal gang and believed to be in possession of the groupโs weapons, remains at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi commended the swift response and collaboration between the Police and the National Forest Security Service which led to the successful recovery of the stolen motorcycle and arrest of the suspects.
Investigation is ongoing, while efforts to apprehend the fleeing gang leader and recover the groupโs weapons have been intensified. The arrested suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
