An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan today, dismissed a N5 billion defamation suit instituted by the Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, against the Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, fondly called Sunday Igboho.
The Court, presided over by Justice O.T. Ademola-Salami, also awarded a cost of N500,000 against Adams in favour of Igboho.Online reports that in the suit marked M/1006/2004, the applicant had, through his counsel, Sikiru Akinrele, filed for the enforcement of his client’s fundamental rights, alleging that the respondent (Igboho), had injured him in his capacity as the Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland and demanded N5 billion as damages.
He alleged that the respondent recorded a telephone conversation between him and another person without his consent to get defamatory content, saying the action breached his right to privacy pursuant to Section 37 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

Several persons have been hospitalised after a building collapsed overnight along Adeniji Adele Road at Isale Eko on Lagos Island.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of today, drew an emergency response from operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, the Nigerian Police, and other relevant rescue agencies.
According to updates posted by LASTMA on its verified X handle, victims trapped under the rubble were rescued and immediately taken to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
“There is a report of an overnight collapsed building along Adeniji Adele road, at Isale Eko. LASTMA personnel, other emergency responders and Men of Nigerian Police Force are all onground. Traffic flow is currently not affected along the corridor as our personnel are firmly at the location for traffic monitoring. Victims rescued from the building have been taken to the hospital for treatment,” LASTMA said.

An Ikeja High Court dismissed an application filed by Mr Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba (popularly known as Mohbad).
Aloba had sought to quash the legal advice that exonerated music label owner Azeez Fashola (alias Naira Marley) and promoter Samson Balogun (alias Sam Larry) from any involvement in Mohbad’s death.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Aloba filed the application through his lead counsel, Dr Wahab Sh*ttu (SAN), on behalf of the family, with the Attorney General of Lagos State and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) listed as respondents.

Australia has cancelled US rapper Kanye West’s visa over his song glorifying N**i leader Adolf Hi**er, the government said.
The 48-year-old musician, who has legally changed his name to Ye, released “Heil Hi**er” on May 8, the 80th anniversary of the defeat of N**i Germany in World War II

The Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency has disbursed funds to 30 communities for new projects aimed at improving access to health care, education, roads and potable water.
The chairman of the agency, Abideen Adeaga, made the disclosure during a training session for representatives of the benefiting communities at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan.
A statement released by the agency’s project Public Relations Officer, Alhazan Rilwan in Ibadan, the state capital, today said the projects were part of the efforts of the current administration in the state to fulfil its campaign promises.
Adeaga explained that the project reflected the most pressing needs identified by the communities, including school buildings, health centres, erosion control, and boreholes.

The Anambra State Police Command has launched an investigation into the killing of no fewer than 13 persons – allegedly Ebonyi State indigenes – by yet-to-be-identified assailants in Ogboji community, Orumba South Local Government Area of the state.
Our correspondent gathered that the armed hoodlums stormed the area late on Monday in two Sport Utility Vehicles and unprovokedly attacked the people, who were holding their monthly general meeting, while also shooting indiscriminately into the air.
The development, it was also gathered, has created panic in the community bringing both economic and commercial activities to a standstill, with residents and community leaders confused.

Atalanta have made it clear that Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman will only leave the club this summer if a suitable offer is placed on the table, with the Serie A side refusing to entertain any negotiations below their valuation.

The University of Pennsylvania has agreed to ban transgender athletes from its women’s sports teams, settling a federal civil rights case stemming from the furor around swimmer Lia Thomas, the US government said.
The US Department of Education said in a statement that UPenn had entered into a resolution agreement vowing to comply with Title IX, the federal law which prohibits sex-based discrimination in any educational programme.
It follows an investigation by the department’s Office for Civil Rights which found the university had violated Title IX by allowing transgender swimmer Thomas to compete in women’s competitions in 2021-2022.
US President Donald Trump, who campaigned on the issue of trans athletes, has worked to prohibit them from competing in girls’ and women’s sports since returning to office.

Renowned Nigerian music icon, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has spoken out on the long-standing controversy surrounding the authorship of his hit song, African Queen.
In an interview on the 234 Mzansi Podcast, posted, 2Baba clarified that the song, which catapulted him to global fame and played a pivotal role in putting Nigerian music on the world map, was a collaborative effort between him and former bandmate, Blackface.
“It’s a collab. I wrote most of the song actually, but we wrote it together,” he said.
The legendary singer, however, expressed disappointment over the ongoing accusations by Blackface, who has repeatedly claimed sole ownership of the song.
