Let me break this down for you:

📍 BSc, HND, OND level:
At undergraduate or diploma level, you’re often free to study whatever you’re passionate about (e.g., history, sociology, mass communication, biology). At this stage, the course might not strongly affect your migration opportunities.

📍 MSc level (Master’s degree):
If your main reason for pursuing further studies is to relocate abroad, then the choice of course matters a lot.

Some fields are much more lucrative and marketable internationally because they:

• Have high demand in countries like Canada, the UK, US, Australia.
• Can directly lead to job opportunities, work permits, or permanent residency pathways.
• Fit into skilled worker visa categories (e.g., healthcare, IT, engineering, data science, social work, nursing, public health).

So, the advice is:
• At undergraduate level, you can experiment with interests.
• But at Master’s level, if the goal is to use education as a pathway to migrate, it’s strategic to pick a course that aligns with global demand, not just personal interest.

A common example:
Someone who studied Theatre Arts in Nigeria (BSc) can do MSc in Data Analytics, Public Health, or Nursing abroad if their main aim is migration, because those courses boost chances of employability and visa sponsorship.

BSc = Passion, MSc = Strategy. If your goal is Japa, choose wisely.

At the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) summit in August 2025, Japan launched a Special Visa and Hometown program for Nigerians.

Isn’t that amazing?

The program introduces a special visa category designed to attract highly skilled, innovative, and talented Nigerian youth. Beneficiaries will be able to live and work in Kisarazu City, Japan, a municipality that has been designated as a “hometown” for Nigerians under this partnership.

Importantly, the program is not limited to graduates or tech experts alone. It also creates pathways for artisans and blue-collar workers from Nigeria, particularly those willing to undergo training or upskilling, to access legitimate work opportunities in Japan. This widens the scope of participation to include Nigerians with diverse skills, from vocational trades to professional expertise.

Beyond employment, the agreement is designed to promote cultural exchange and manpower development between both countries. By linking municipalities in Japan with Nigeria, the program supports workforce mobility, community integration, and regional revitalization in Japan, while also opening doors for Nigerians to gain international experience, income, and exposure.

In summary, this is not just a visa scheme, it is a structured partnership that ties together migration, skills development, and mutual cultural understanding, offering Nigerians a unique pathway to live, work, and contribute meaningfully in Japan.

There’s no official information yet on when the visa will open for applications, or what the application process entails. As of now, no application portal or forms have been publicly released.

If you’re interested, it’s a wise idea to regularly check with the Embassy or Consulate of Japan in Nigeria for updates to be among the first to know once applications open.

Yes, that’s right!

ETS announced on August 21, 2025, that IRCC recognized the TOEFL Essentials test as a designated language testing option for Canadian economic immigration programs.

IRCC has not yet started accepting the test results, but ETS is working closely with immigration authorities to finalize the rollout. Details such as timing and test center availability will be posted on IRCC’s official site when confirmed.

Multiple news outlets, including The Economic Times and CIC News, confirm that the test “will soon be accepted” for programs like Express Entry (FSWP, FSTP, CEC), Atlantic Immigration Program, and PNPs, though acceptance may vary by province.

Bookmark IRCC’s official language testing page to watch for updates on acceptance dates and centers.

Thinking about moving to France on a student visa?

Here’s the real truth:

• If you study in France (e.g. a Master’s), you may be eligible to apply for citizenship after about 4 years (2 years of study + 2 years of residence with a stable job).
• Graduates do benefit from a reduced residency requirement (2 years instead of 5).

🔶 The reality check:
• You must prove strong French language skills.
• Authorities check your income, taxes, integration, and criminal record before approving.
• Citizenship is not automatic, you only become eligible to apply.

🔶 Family matters:
• Your spouse & kids can only join you after 18 months in France (if you prove income & housing).
• Once reunited, your spouse can work.
• Exception: certain visa types (like Talent Passport) let family come immediately with work rights.

20/08/2025

As of now, only certain categories of international students are allowed to bring dependents to the UK under the Student visa route.

📍 Who can bring dependents?

• Full-time PhD or research-based postgraduate students
• Government-sponsored students on courses of 6 months+

📍 Who cannot?

• Undergraduate students (unless government-sponsored)
• Taught Master’s students (non-research programs)

The rules changed 1 Jan 2024 to cut migration.

So, dependents are still allowed, but only for PhD/research or government-sponsored students.

Think about future job demand.

As you decide on a course of study abroad, it’s important to think beyond just what interests you.

Make sure your chosen program aligns with occupations that are currently in demand in the country you’re studying in. However, don’t stop there. Look ahead and consider whether those occupations are projected to still be in demand by the time you graduate.

This forward-thinking approach will give you a better chance of securing job opportunities, meeting immigration or work permit requirements, and maximizing the return on your educational investment.

Happy New Week!! 🎉

Securing a job abroad isn’t as impossible as many people think, it’s more about strategy, effort, and consistency than luck.

First, you need to decide on your target country and understand its job market, immigration requirements, and in-demand skills. Once you know the industries that are hiring, tailor your CV and cover letter to match their style. What works in your home country might not be acceptable abroad.

Next, use multiple job search channels: official government job boards, LinkedIn, recruitment agencies, and direct applications to companies. If you see any job posting on any job search channel, apply directly on the company’s website. This often increases your chances of your application being seen. Don’t send the same generic application everywhere, customize for each role.

Networking is also key. Engage with professionals in your field online, join industry groups, and attend virtual events. Many people land international jobs through referrals.

Most importantly, be consistent. You might not get an interview on the first try, but if you keep applying and refining your approach, opportunities will open up. It’s not about sending thousands of random applications. It’s about sending the right ones regularly.

Think of it this way >> applying for a job abroad is like planting seeds. If you water them daily (effort + persistence), eventually, one will grow into that offer you’ve been waiting for.

Good luck!! 😉
