Gulf African Bank (GAB), one of Kenya’s three fully-fledged Islamic banks, has partnered with telecoms company Safaricom to launch Halal Pesa, a Shariah compliant mobile financing solution. Through the new service, customers can access Islamic financing with a repayment period of 30 days and a commodity Murabahah rate of 5%. The minimum facility amount that can be requested is KES1,000 (US$8.63).

Muscat: The total assets of Oman's Islamic banks and windows combined increased by 10 percent to about OMR6.6 billion at the end of March 2023 compared to the same period last year. In terms of market share, Islamic banking assets now make up 16.4 per cent of total banking sector assets as of the banking sector in the Sultanate of Oman.

HBN News | World | Organization of Islamic Cooperation plans to send delegation to Sudan amid clashes.

At least 600 killed, thousands injured in clashes between army, paramilitary RSF, according to Sudan’s Health Ministry. In a statement, the Jeddah-based grouping said an emergency meeting was held to discuss the situation in Sudan.

The OIC General Secretariat “affirmed the OIC position in support of the stability and unity of Sudan,” the statement said.
The pan-Islamic grouping called for “an immediate cease-fire, calm, restraint, a humanitarian truce, and a return to the path of dialogue and negotiations in order to take the transitional phase in Sudan to safety.”

The market for halal food, which spans 1.9bln consumers and was worth $1.27trln in 2021, is forecast to reach $1.67trln by 2025.

The Balkan country, half of whose population is Muslim, has become a regional hub for halal products since it set up one of Europe's first agencies for halal quality certification in 2006.
Bosnian banks, food producers and hoteliers have adopted halal standards to tap a fast-growing market thanks to an influx of Gulf tourists and growing trade with the Arab world.

The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has announced the addition of Jeddah Islamic Port to East Africa – Red Sea and Red Sea shipping services by cargo operator Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).

Weekly East Africa- Red Sea service will link Jeddah Islamic Port and King Abdullah Port to the trade hubs of Djibouti, Mombasa, and Dar Es Salaam with a transit time of two days, nine days, and twelve days, respectively.

At least 600 people killed in clashes between army, paramilitary RSF in Sudan. Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha has called for an immediate cessation of violence in Sudan amid clashes between the army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In a statement, Taha called on the Sudanese parties “to return to the path of dialogue, resort to the voice of reason and uphold the supreme interests of the Sudanese people.”

HBN News | World | 33 death toll: Israel continues air raids on Gaza.

Death toll rose to 33 and 98 others have been injured in the last four days of Israeli forces air attacks. According to Palestinian figures, more than 160 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the start of this year. At least 20 Israelis have also been killed in separate attacks during the same period.
