IZOMBE BEYOND ADMINISTRATION; SOLVING THE NITTY GRITTY AND OTHER OVERLAPPING PROBLEMS BEDEVILING THE COMMUNITY - CHALLENGES BEFORE THE NEW EXECUTIVE.

BY IHEJIRIKA BENEDICT CHIDI (IBC).

Factually stated, a new dawn has dawn on our noble land considering the baton of leadership that has shifted from the erstwhile Town Union executive to the new executive of the central union.

This new executive, ably led by Hon Desmond Emeka Anujuru has shown promising glimpses of a new Izombe as showcased in the speech he presented at his inauguration.

The speech made is an embodiment of belief, progress and growth for our community. Now, looking back and drawing inference from the speech, it is underlying facts to present to the executive that, our problems don't only revolve around the peace, unity and development of the community but certain uprisings that we may have overlooked maybe due to inefficient leadership, have undermined the community.

Our President General - Hon Desmond Emeka Anujuru, as we undertake this new era in our history with you as the sailor, these areas need urgent and serious attention;

*Transportation - in Izombe, there is no regulation on the prices of transportation. This act has caused Izombians more pain than ever mostly during Yuletide seasons. Public commuters and transporters incessantly increase fare without recourse. This season's increment was so debilitating that, PMS, Ago and other products never added more rather than went down, yet, these men did what they did because, it won't be addressed by anyone. Sir, your arrival is a signal of hope for our community, as such, addressing this area will be highly beneficial to our people.

*Food commodities - At Ogbafor Izombe precisely, the overbearing influence of unions has dangerously affected the inhabitants of Izombians in terms of certain food stuffs like, meat, ice fish, buying and selling of ugu and more. Izombe resident in Izombe knows more about this and can tell more. Truthfully, the state of unregulated prices in the food commodities is alarming and needs to be addressed to get our community functioning.

*Autonomous Dichotomy - As we look forward with hope and belief, the management of the disparities from the four Autonomous communities in the clan is a concern. We cannot feign it that, we do not have this clog in our wheel of progress. Our resources have been divided through this arrangement and nothing works at the centre as a result. We must seek for an avenue to address this uproar and stick to a central or defining point.
We used to have our central scholarship , we have Izombe Secondary Commercial School, Federal medical center annex, Ogbafor market, central School Izombe, Nnehe Eke, Okorosha festival and many more. These are identities of the clan that cannot be erased but the autonomous which is concomitant with administrative convenience has gulped us of our collective norms.

The division stems UPTO the operation of the oil companies operating in our land. None of the operations of these companies bear another name outside Izombe but once it gets to community social responsibility, they refrain. On it still, One of the evils that was done to us remains the JISIKE creation. Today, the same division that was intended to deprive other communities from these blessings of God have spurred back to somewhat accommodate the communities as less impacted. Sir, we have a lot to work on, to get Izombe working centrally and not divisively.

To be continued!

After the Convention, What Next?

On the 26th of December 2025, the people of Izombe gathered in their numbers and spoke with one voice. They elected Hon. Desmond Emeka Anujuru to lead them for the next four years. It was a moment filled with hope, expectation, and deep reflection on the journey so far and the road ahead.

The question on many lips is simple but weighty. What will Hon. Desmond do differently for a clan that is still healing? Izombe is a clan recovering from the scars of devastating insecurity, a period that shook families, disrupted livelihoods, and weakened trust among the people.

Izombe is a clan where all five primary schools are in a state of serious disrepair, classrooms standing as silent reminders of neglect. Education, which should be the foundation of the future, has suffered greatly. A people without functional schools risk losing not just knowledge, but direction.

The social fabric of Izombe has equally been stretched. Politics has divided brothers and sisters, while many educated youths have found themselves reduced to praise singing for careless politicians instead of standing as voices of reason and progress. Leadership, which should inspire unity and purpose, has too often fueled division.

More troubling is the situation of the four autonomous communities in Izombe, where leadership structures are imposed through local government authority rather than emerging from the genuine will of the people.

Against this backdrop, the emergence of Hon. Desmond Emeka Anujuru presents both an opportunity and a heavy responsibility. Can he unite Izombe? Can he rise above entrenched interests and personal loyalties to place the clan first? Is this enormous task within the reach of his resolve and courage?

Many sincerely hope that the new President General will be bold enough to look powerful interests in the eye and speak with honesty and firmness. That he will say, with all due respect, come back home. Come back and fix our schools. Come back and restore our Federal Medical Center. Come back and help rebuild a clan that has given so much yet received so little.

Leadership at this moment demands more than fine speeches. It demands healing, inclusion, and a clear vision backed by action. It demands the courage to confront wrongs, the wisdom to unite differing voices, and the humility to serve rather than rule.

All eyes are now on our new President General. The expectations are high, the challenges are real, and the time for excuses is over. Izombe stands at a crossroads.

Interesting times indeed lie ahead.

HON MRS IHESIE UNVEILS WOMEN SUPPORT AND EMPOWERMENT NETWORK FOR THE VOICELESS WOMEN

Her immense desire to restore the dignity of women in a society mostly dominated by men has stir up a socialite, philanthropist, role model and the voice of the voiceless, Hon Mrs Nkeiruka Ihesie to prop up the women and girl-child who were relegated to the background not because of incapacity nor the requisite value to match up with the modern acceptable social flows but because nature has made them women.

No one has noticed this age long deficiency but the shrewd Nkeiruka recognised it, hence promptly matched it up with by founding this non partisan, non governmental and non interest organization called Women Support And Empowerment Network For The Voiceless Women to restore the deprived voices, restore the dignity of women, girl-child and reassured the poor and the vulnerable that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Hon Mrs Nkeiruka Ihesie, the founder of this noble organization stated that the only way to put an end to this bad rubbish against women is embrace platform like WOSENVOW to put a permanent end to gender discrimination, violence against women , women marginalization, financial dependency, lack of equal rights and opportunities for their effective contribution to the overall development of our society.

Furthermore, Hon Ihesie in her address emphasize
"The only way to emancipate the womenfolk or girlchild from this perpetual men suppression in to equip our girl child with diverse skills, education capacity and what have you. Empower a woman you have validly empowered a nation.
In her exact words
Our mission is simple but powerful to promote gender equality and empower women and girl-child by providing requisite resources, support and advocacy to overcome barriers and enhance their full potentials.
Promote support, empower and uplift women, especially those who have been marginalized , abused or silenced so they can stand tall, speak boldly and live purposefully"

Today the 28th of December, 2028 was so auspicious and significant in the history of female folks and the vulnerable in our society as this WOSENVOW platform was unveiled on a ground style alongside material and financial empowerment packages to the young, the old and the oldest. Among whom was motherless boy whose school fees were instantly written off by cash advance given to him.

People and groups from the all walks of life grace the occasion including, ISOPADEC, Gov Hope Uzodimma Women group, Traditional ruler of Obeabor Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Uzoma Akopunwanne, Youths across the length and breadth of the state to mention but a few.

The highlight of the occasion was the cutting of the unveiling ceremony cake, dancing competition and empowerment galore.

Durugo Hails Uzodimmaโ€™s Oil Sector Reforms
..Says It Will End Host-Community Tensions

Hon. Samuel Durugo, a prominent stakeholder and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Izombe in Oguta Local Government Area, has applauded Governor Hope Uzodimma for what he described as a โ€œpeople-centered and productive interventionโ€ in the oil and gas sector. Durugo was reacting to the governorโ€™s recent declaration that all oil companies operating in Imo State must establish their offices and business presence within the state.

Durugo noted that for too long, oil producing communities in Imo have borne the brunt of environmental degradation and economic neglect, while the companies spirited away wealth without meaningful investment in the state. โ€œBy insisting that oil companies domiciled in Imo must set up offices here, the governor has laid the foundation for an economy where our people will no longer be mere providers of crude but active participants in processing and value creation,โ€ Durugo stated.

He stressed that Uzodimmaโ€™s directive will not only improve the internally generated revenue of the state through pay-as-you-earn taxation but also create jobs for indigenes, particularly the youths. โ€œOur young people deserve more than casual labor. With processing plants and offices here in Imo, they will have access to professional employment, technical training, and a future that keeps them from crime or migration,โ€ Durugo emphasized.

The Izombe-born politician also highlighted the governorโ€™s pragmatic approach to addressing oil firmsโ€™ excuses. โ€œThey said insecurity was the reason; His Excellency responded with improved security. They said accommodation was lacking; he has brought Marriott and Hilton into Imo to give us world-class hotels. This is what leadership looks like; solving problems with solutions, not rhetoric,โ€ Durugo remarked.

According to him, if the oil companies comply fully, the benefits will spread across the board: host communities will enjoy corporate social responsibility, the government will generate revenue to fund projects, and the oil companies will operate in a stable and secure environment. โ€œIt is a relationship that is truly reciprocal, we give them an enabling environment, and in return, they give us development, jobs, and peace,โ€ he explained.

Durugo further argued that Uzodimmaโ€™s policy is a peace-building mechanism. โ€œMost of the agitations and restiveness in oil communities are rooted in marginalization. When the companies are here, they will see and feel the pulse of the people. Engagement will be easier, grievances addressed faster, and mutual trust restored. That is the surest path to peace in Oguta, Ohaji/Egbema, Izombe, and beyond,โ€ he asserted.

The oil sector contractor, Durugo urged host communities to rally behind the governorโ€™s vision and support the oil companies in fulfilling their obligations. โ€œGovernor Uzodimma has thrown open a golden door of opportunity. If we all walk through it in unity, Imo will become not just an oil producing state, but an oil processing and wealth creating hub in Nigeria. This is the kind of transformation our founding fathers dreamed of,โ€ he declared.

Chief Ogbuwarauzo II wrote:

The Guardians of Our Land: How Our Chiefs Have Kept the Peace in Izombe

For generations, the people of Izombe have been known for their strength, industry, and deep connection to the land. Our identity is rooted in the soil we farm and the communities we build upon it. Yet, this same source of life has also been, in many places, a source of conflict. We hear stories from neighbouring clans of neighbours turning into enemies, of machetes being drawn, and of blood staining the very earth that should sustain life.

But in Izombe, a different story is being written. This year, across our four autonomous communitiesโ€”Umunwama, Aborshi, Oboabo, and Ndiulugwuโ€”we have held fast to a greater truth: we are one people. We have not seen brothers lift machetes against each other over land. We have not witnessed the tragedy of indigenes fighting to the death. This peace is not an accident. It is the direct result of the wisdom, authority, and tireless work of our traditional institutionsโ€”the Eze-in-Council and our local chiefs.

The Izombe Miracle: Settling Land Disputes Without Bloodshed

This year alone, our chiefs have quietly and effectively settled numerous potentially explosive land disputes. How did they achieve this "Izombe miracle"?

1. Immediate Intervention: The moment a land conflict arises, the structured process begins. The matter is reported to the kindred chief, who then escalates it to the village chiefs and the Eze-in-Council. This immediate channeling of grievance into a respected authority stops violence before it can even be conceived.
2. The Court Under the Tree: Justice is not delayed. Our chiefs convene where it matters mostโ€”at the disputed land itself or in the village square. There, they listen to all sides: the elders who hold the history, and the families with their documents and oral traditions.
3. Applying Ancestral Wisdom: Our chiefs are the living custodians of our history. They recall the ancient boundaries, the family lineages, and the agreements sealed by our forefathers. Their judgments are rooted not only in evidence but in the collective memory and Omenala Izombe, a law we all understand and respect.
4. Focus on Restoration, Not Victory: The goal is lasting peace, not a temporary win. The process is designed to restore harmony so families can live as neighbours once more. This is achieved through:
ยท Fair Compensation: Where encroachment occurs, a fair and agreed-upon compensation is made.
ยท Clear Demarcation: Chiefs and witnesses physically re-mark boundaries with permanent landmarks, making them clear for all to see.
ยท Sacred Oath-Taking: To ensure finality, parties may be required to take a traditional oath, a powerful spiritual deterrent against future conflict.

This is why, here in Izombe, we have never heard or seen a brother cut his fellow indigene with a machete because of land. Our chiefs are the firewalls, diligently preventing sparks of conflict from becoming wildfires of violence.

Why We Must Appreciate, Respect, and Follow the Chain of Authority

The peace we enjoy is precious and fragile. It depends entirely on our collective respect for the system our chiefs uphold. Here is why every son and daughter of Izombe must honour every link in the chain of authority, from the kindred to the Eze:

1. They Serve for Love, Not Money: These chiefs dedicate their own time and resources to settle our problems without a salary. They act out of a profound duty and love for Izombe. The peace they broker saves lives, prevents lasting injuries, and spares families from generational hatred.
2. They Protect Our Collective Reputation: A peaceful Izombe is a prosperous Izombe. When investors and partners hear that we settle our disputes intelligently and peacefully, it brings development and respect to our entire clan. Violence only brings fear and drives opportunity away.
3. Respecting the Chain is Respecting Ourselves: The hierarchy from family to kindred to village to clan is the backbone of our society. When we bypass our local chief for the police or take matters into our own hands, we weaken our community's self-governance. We declare to the world that we cannot solve our own problems.
4. They Ensure a Legacy of Peace: The land we steward is not just for us; it is the inheritance of our children. The chiefs' judgments ensure this land is passed down peacefully, free from the curses of bloodshed, preserving a legacy of unity for generations to come.

A Call to Action

Let us never take the peace in Izombe for granted. Let us show our gratitude and respect through our actions:

ยท Always take disputes to the chiefs first. They are our first and most legitimate court.
ยท Accept their judgments in good faith. Trust their wisdom, even if the outcome is not everything you desired.
ยท Speak well of their leadership. Uphold their authority in your words and actions.
ยท Teach our children to respect this sacred institution. Ensure the next generation continues this legacy of peace.

Our chiefs are the reason Izombe stands united while others fracture. They are the shield that protects us from ourselves. Let us honour them, obey them, and continue to build a peaceful, strong, and prosperous Izombe, together.
