OPERATION LAFIYA NAKOWA: 6 BRIGADE TROOPS APPREHEND NOTORIOUS SUSPECTED TERRORIST IN TARABA

In a significant operational breakthrough, troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/ Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested a notorious suspected terrorist on 18 September 2025 following credible and actionable intelligence.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence report, the vigilant troops tracked and intercepted the suspect at Takum Junction, Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, where 35-year-old Saawuan Wuaiyolna was apprehended with a motorcycle.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect hails from Ateryange community in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State and is a high-profile member of the notorious bandits’ gang led by the wanted criminal, Akiki Utivi, popularly known as “Full Fire.” Findings further indicate that the suspect infiltrated Wukari to monitor troop activities with the intent of facilitating coordinated attacks on innocent citizens.

The arrest marks a major setback for the criminal gang and underscores the resolve of troops under Operation LAFIYA NAKOWA to deny terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements freedom of action in Taraba State and beyond.

The Commander 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa while commending the troops for their gallantry, reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to ensuring peace and security across the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility. He urged residents to continue supporting the security forces by providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing operation.

TARABA ROADS IN CRISIS: CALL FOR PRESIDENT TINUBU’S URGENT INTERVENTION

JALINGO – A passionate call has gone out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene in the rehabilitation of federal roads across Taraba State, many of which have collapsed, leaving communities cut off and crippling economic activities.

The appeal was contained in an open letter addressed to the President by Tanko Kyen-Emoh Danjuma Ambi-Usi Jr., Esq., who described the condition of the roads as a threat to national security, economic integration, and international trade.

According to him, the Jalingo–Wukari Road has become impassable following the total collapse of the Namnai Bridge, cutting off Taraba from Benue State and effectively severing the state’s link to southern Nigeria. He warned that the situation not only paralyzes trade but also hampers security operations in the troubled corridor.

He further highlighted the Jalingo–Numan Road, which has been washed away in parts within Adamawa State, describing it as treacherous for travelers and detrimental to commerce and military logistics in the North-East.

Equally worrisome, the letter noted, is the Jalingo–Bali–Takum Road, where the Panmanga Bridge is on the verge of collapse, endangering commuters and threatening to isolate large communities.

Other critical federal roads listed in the appeal include:

Jalingo–Zing Road leading to Adamawa, where sections have been washed away.

Jalingo–Gembu Road, a historic route linking Nigeria to Cameroon, now in near-total disrepair.

Wukari–Ibi–Shendam Road, where the long-promised Ibi Bridge remains unfinished.

Wukari–Chinkai Road, linking Nasarawa, now rendered useless due to dilapidation.

Jalingo–Lau–Karim Road, still incomplete and lacking a bridge across River Benue.

Takum–Lissam–Pangtso Road, a cross-border route to Cameroon, left to decay, worsening smuggling and insecurity.

Ambi-Usi stressed that the neglect of these roads has worsened insecurity, endangered lives, and undermined Taraba’s role as an agrarian hub. Farmers, he said, can no longer move their goods to markets, leading to huge post-harvest losses and economic stagnation.

“Roads are not mere infrastructures; they are lifelines,” he wrote, noting that military deployments, emergency healthcare, and trade have all been severely hampered.

He urged President Tinubu to direct the Federal Ministry of Works to commence emergency works on collapsed bridges like Namnai and Panmanga while initiating comprehensive reconstruction of all affected federal roads in Taraba.

According to him, such interventions would not only restore economic vibrancy in the state but also strengthen national integration, border security, and Nigeria’s international trade relations.

*TERROR PLOT FOILED: 6 BRIGADE TROOPS NAB TWO TERRORISTS IN TARABA STATE*

In a swift and intelligence led operation, troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA)/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have foiled coordinated terrorist plans and apprehended two suspected terrorists in separate operations on 16 July 2025 within Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Acting on credible intelligence, troops deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari arrested a 45 year old suspected terrorist, Felix Myina, a native of Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a high ranking member of a notorious bandit and kidnapping syndicate operating under a wanted criminal kingpin identified as Mcianan, also known as Yellow. This group has been a major threat to motorists and residents along the Jootar–Wukari axis. A Techno mobile phone was recovered from the suspect at the point of arrest.

In a related development, vigilant troops responding to imminent threats of terrorist attacks within Wukari town also arrested a suspected member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The suspect, identified as Abubakar Yusuf, aged 26 and a native of Borno State residing in Gassol LGA, was intercepted while performing strange rituals at the Aku-Uka Palace Junction, one of the locations identified as a likely target for ISWAP attacks. He was reportedly attempting to “spiritually tie” the town to facilitate access for fellow terrorists.
Items recovered from him include:

One dead chicken

Nine unhatched rotten eggs

One animal horn

One bottle containing powdered substance

Pieces of fresh meat

Both suspects are currently in custody and are providing useful information.

The Commander 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the vigilance of troops and the cooperation of local residents who reported suspicious movements. He further urged the public to remain security conscious and to continue providing timely information to assist the military and other security agencies in their mission to rid Taraba State of criminal elements. "The Brigade remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and restore peace and stability across the region," he added.

TROOPS OF 6 BRIGADE SMASH BANDIT MEETING, DESTROY CAMPS, RECOVER MOTORCYCLES IN TARABA

In continuation of ongoing clearance operations across Taraba State, gallant troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have dismantled several bandit hideouts and successfully recovered logistics used by the criminals. The intelligence-driven operation targeted a meeting allegedly convened by a wanted notorious bandit leader identified as Liamdoo Douglas Adekpe, also known as Bajor.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops launched a swift and aggressive offensive on 5 July 2025, targeting remote areas in the southern part of Wukari Local Government Area, believed to be a stronghold of the Bajor-led syndicate. Upon arrival, the criminals, sensing imminent danger, fled the scene, abandoning several valuable items.

The operation led to the destruction of key hideouts used by the syndicate for coordinating attacks and harboring weapons. Troops also recovered five operational motorcycles, suspected to have been used for rapid movement and raids on surrounding communities.

Speaking on the operation, Commander 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, noted that while Bajor and his cohorts narrowly escaped, troops remain on high alert and are currently tracking their movements. He emphasized that the Nigerian Army remains committed to pursuing and neutralizing all criminal elements threatening the peace and security of law-abiding citizens in Taraba State and beyond.

Brigadier General Uwa reaffirmed the resolve of 6 Brigade to sustain pressure on all terrorist enclaves. He called on residents of Taraba State to continue providing timely and actionable information to security agencies in support of ongoing operations.

He added that the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army will continue to adopt both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
