BREAKING: President Tinubu has approved the comprehensive reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), which will see the agency being led by a civilian in its operational leadership, while the military will continue to handle security for corps members across the country.

Tinubu also directed the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Minister of Youth, Ayodele Olawande, to amend the NYSC Act and its regulations to reflect all the approved reform measures, enabling immediate implementation of the new framework.

Some of the landmark reforms include:

1. A technology-driven call-up process.

2. Risk-sensitive deployment to better protect corps members.

3. A redesigned six-week orientation programme with a stronger focus on leadership, entrepreneurship, digital skills, and specialised career streams.

4. Skills-based primary assignments aligned with academic background and career pathways.

5. Modern governance with civilian operational leadership while the military continues to provide security support.

6. Improved camp standards through a national grading and certification system.

7. A new graduation ceremony to replace the Passing Out Parade, and a redesigned NYSC uniform that reflects professionalism and national pride.

TROOPS OF 6 BRIGADE NEUTRALISE TWO SUSPECTED BANDITS, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE IN TARABA

In a continued effort to flush out criminal elements threatening peace and security in Taraba State, troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA)/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully neutralised two suspected armed bandits during a well-coordinated tactical operation.

The operation was carried out on 24 May 2026 following the receipt of credible intelligence reports of gunshots heard in a forest near the “Welcome to Donga” signpost in Akate District, Donga Local Government Area (LGA). Acting swiftly on the intelligence received, the troops mobilised to the area and conducted a tactical raid.

Upon arrival at the scene, the troops encountered suspected armed assailants and engaged them in a gun duel. During the exchange, two of the suspected criminals were neutralised.

Items recovered from the operation included one AK-47 rifle, five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two AK-47 magazines, two mobile phones, and other personal items.

Speaking on the success of the operation, the Commander of 6 Brigade NA/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their swiftness and professionalism. He urged the troops to sustain the operational momentum in line with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to eliminate all forms of criminality across the state.

Brigadier General Akaliro affirmed that the reward and sanction policy would also apply to the gallant troops involved in the operation. He further reassured residents of Taraba State that the Brigade remains resolute in its commitment to pursuing criminal elements and maintaining sustained pressure on them until all threats to peace and security are completely eliminated.

TARABA STATE CONTRIBUTORY HEALTH INSURANCE AGENCY EXPLORES PARTNERSHIP WITH FEDERAL UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL, WUKARI
The Taraba State Contributory Health Insurance Agency recently paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Medical Director of the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Wukari, Prof. Ayuba Dauda Madachi, and the hospital management to discuss a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening healthcare service delivery for enrollees across Wukari and its environs.
During the meeting, the Agency highlighted the presence of enrollees across the ten political wards in Wukari, where Primary Healthcare Centres currently provide basic healthcare services. However, cases requiring advanced medical attention such as surgeries, hypertension management, diabetes care, and other specialized treatments often require referral services beyond the capacity of primary healthcare facilities.
Recognizing the importance of accessible quality healthcare, the Agency proposed a collaboration that would enable enrollees to access secondary and tertiary healthcare services at the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Wukari.
Prof. Ayuba Dauda Madachi and the management of the hospital warmly welcomed the initiative and expressed their willingness to partner with the Agency. Principal staff members from the hospital’s Health Insurance Department also joined discussions on the modalities and necessary preparations toward the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The engagement was fruitful, interactive, and promising, with both parties reaffirming their TARABA STATE CONTRIBUTORY HEALTH INSURANCE AGENC to improving healthcare delivery for the people of Wukari and surrounding communities.
This partnership, when finalized, will further ensure that residents can conveniently access quality healthcare services within their locality without the need to travel long distances for advanced medical care.
