A Year Ago, It Was Just a Dream…

What began as a simple dream—a wish buried deep in my heart—became a powerful reality on the 30th of May 2025.

When we truly desire something and take consistent steps toward it, the universe conspires to make it happen. And it did.

The PeakAspire Inter-School Quiz and Essay Writing Competition was more than just an event; it was a spark—an ignition point for something greater. Its goal was clear: to inspire and motivate students toward academic excellence.

We know that one event alone isn’t enough to change a generation, but this one has lit a flame in the hearts of these young students—a flame we believe will grow into something transformative.

As the competition ended, emotions ran high. For some, there was laughter and celebration. For others, there were tears—tears that spoke louder than words. They carried stories of effort, passion, and a deep hunger for success.

This dream wouldn’t have become a reality without the amazing individuals who believed in me and this vision. Whether you sponsored, volunteered, partnered, or simply cheered us on—you made this happen.

To the names I can remember—and those I might have forgotten—thank you.

This is my heartfelt thank you.

Everybody in this community knows its problems. To most people, to solve this problem is to exclude one's self from the ills of improper education or education without motivation. Hence, people who can afford it resolved to take their children out of the community for both primary and secondary education.

What about those who cannot afford to do the same? Should we let their dreams die? Should we let them wallow in the belief that their background is already a limitation? Or should we let them know there's more to life than early marriage, early childbirth, mindless womanizing, and indulging in substance?

As concerned advocates of quality education and personal development, we decided to organize an event, putting reward systems in place to help spur and inspire students towards academic excellence.

PeakAspire Initiative presents to you an INTER-SCHOOL QUIZ COMPETITION AND ESSAY WRITING with six registered schools to participate. These schools involve:

Government Secondary School, Kadarko

Government Secondary School, G/Kogi

Government Secondary School, Wadata

Messiah Vineyard Academy, Kadarko

Community Day Secondary School, B/Rijiya

Kumbwang Community Secondary School, U/Ballak

There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions, respectively. We are sure that these prizes will motivate winners to do more and challenge other students, even teachers, to improve and commit to learning, and teaching.

Before the commencement of the competition, the well-seasoned speakers who we invited will be speaking to them on the following topics:

Choosing the Right Career Path: Steps and Strategies

Understanding Subject Combinations for Your Dream Course

Discovering Your Strengths and Talents for Career Success

Being a program with a focus on senior secondary students, these discussion questions are timely. We are sure that the awareness these discussions will create in the students will cause a paradigm shift in their educational mindset.

There are various ways you can contribute your quarter in impacting the lives of these young ones. Just reach out to me!

In a community where almost no one talks about education, the desire for academic excellence is never expected.

In any community, there are intelligent and less intelligent, morally sound and immoral, patriotic and unpatriotic residents, and this is the balance any community needs to stay sane. But any slight imbalance may also affect the ecosystem.

The interesting part is that we each are capable of choosing where we belong, where we fall in any of the aforementioned categories.

We have studied and understood our community, what it needs and doesn't, and we noticed that there's a retrogressive in educational aspirations and achievements, causing harm and imbalance to the ecosystem.

It is because of this that we chose this path of impact, awareness creation, and being a fountain of inspiration and guidance, all towards academic excellence.

One of the programs we're currently planning and looking forward to is the INTER-SCHOOL QUIZ COMPETITION AND ESSAY WRITING, meticulously planned to help cushion the lack of zeal for academic excellence.

Earlier today, we met the management of GSS GUIWAN-KOGI and COMMUNITY DAY SECONDARY BAKIN RIJIYA to have them partner with us for the actualization of this program and they are in on it.

After a lengthy discussion with staff of both schools, I tell you, the problem with the decline in the avidity for education is all over.

We, therefore, must rise against the nonchallancy for academic excellence among the youths in our rural communities.

WE ARE NOT WAITING FOR CHANGE, WE ARE CREATING IT.

THE DAY THAT CHANGED MY LIFE…

I can never forget that day.
A day when something was ignited in me.

Back then, I was just a young, bright lad, consistently topping my class in primary school, but was never truly recognised or rewarded for my efforts. Most of the time, all I got were promises that never came through.

But everything changed the day I resumed JSS1 at Grace Secondary School, Shishiri.

It was there, during a Spelling Bee Competition organised by some NYSC Corp members, that a seed was planted in me. A seed that grew into confidence, courage, and the conviction that my background didn't define my future.

I remember facing Seljul, a well-known, brilliant student from JSS 1 B. He was the favourite to win; I was the underdog from a lesser-known school, COBATI Nursery and Primary School, Zamko.

I was scared. I was unprepared. But that one opportunity forced me to rise, to study, to show up. That gave me an edge to win the competition, when he misspelt the word “QUIET”, I saw my opening - and I took it.

That moment changed everything.
I began to believe in myself.
And that belief has carried me till today.

That’s exactly what we want to recreate for students across our community.

We are organising an INTER-SCHOOL QUIZ COMPETITION AND ESSAY WRITING EVENT - a platform that will awaken boldness, inspire confidence, and challenge our young minds to reach beyond their fears and limitations.

This isn’t just about academics. It’s about planting seeds of purpose, passion, and self-belief - just like it happened for me.

We’re inviting schools, students, teachers, and well-meaning individuals to be a part of this transformative experience.

Because one competition can change a life.
Just like it changed mine.

Will you partner with us to make this happen?
Will you sponsor, volunteer, or support in any way?

Let’s raise a generation of confident, purpose-driven students - one competition at a time.

REIGNITING THE FLAME OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

In a community where the average young person finds themselves caught between the subtle but powerful silence of lost dreams and a growing lifestyle that echoes the narrative “school na scam,” we have chosen to rise.

We are contributing our quota - no matter how small - to reignite the mindset of academic excellence among our children and youth.

Gone are the days when, outside school hours, the voices of pupils filled the air with rhymes, poems, multiplication tables, states and capitals. Gone are the days when learning was a joy, and knowledge a treasure they proudly displayed.

Today, many of these young minds spend their time miming trending songs, reenacting viral skits, and imitating comic characters. While entertainment has its place, we cannot ignore the harm that comes with imbalance - the shrinking attention spans, the fading thirst for knowledge, and the quiet abandonment of academic dreams.

But we believe it's not too late.

We believe every child still carries a spark - waiting for the right encouragement to ignite it into a flame of excellence.

This is our mission:
To inspire.
To motivate.
To remind them that education is still a ladder.
That excellence is achievable.
That dreams are valid.

Join us as we journey into schools and communities, using mentorship, storytelling, and practical support to awaken hope and build a new narrative.

Because when we raise a child’s mind, we raise a nation.

Together, we can make learning cool again.
Together, we can make excellence aspirational again.

You will be always treated by your family as a child to the degree that you allow it.

Regardless of age or status, if you don't intentionally project yourself as someone mature and responsible, you will always be treated as a child.

Having said all this, I want you to understand that how you are treated by others is entirely up to you.

Apply this to all facets and watch you will be respectfully treated. Be responsible. Priotize yourself. Create boundaries. Pursue goals. Learn to say 'No!'

The Lord will help us all.

This reminds me of the times when we would go to fetch water from our village dam. Although it was heavy and the distance was long, we tried our best to prevent any drops from touching the ground, as losing even a little would lighten our load.

The lighter water you carry, the more you go back to fetch to fill the 'Randa' at home.

Enduring the weight meant fewer trips back to fetch more water.

So, don’t give up when things get tough—just get it done!
