Sometimes I sit quietly and look back at my life… and I wonder how I even survived it.
It started in the university.
I had issues. The school didn’t rusticate me. They didn’t send me away. But the shame, the pressure, the whispers… it felt heavier than any suspension letter.
So I made the hardest decision of my life. I quit.
I told myself "let me start over. Maybe this isn’t for me."
But what followed was worse than leaving school.
The news spread.
Friends I called sisters avoided me.
Church members in Gusau started talking.
No one knew why I left. No one asked. They just assumed.
And assumption turned into stories.
The same girls I kept close, the ones I laughed with, prayed with, covered for…
They were the loudest.
"She’s the reason I have carryover."
"She follows men."
"She was never serious."
"She’s dubious."
The words cut deep. So deep that I stopped going to church completely.
How do you sit in a place that’s supposed to be home, when the people there have already buried you with their mouths?
When I met my husband, they didn’t stop.
They talked about him too. Ill things. Ugly things.
As if my pain wasn’t enough, they tried to stain the one good thing that was happening to me.
There were nights I cried until my eyes burned.
Nights I asked God, "Did I deserve this?"
No one on earth knew the real reason I quit. No one knew how broken I felt inside.
But God saw me.
My husband saw me.
He was the only human who sat with me on the day I broke down and told him everything about school, about Gusau, about the shame.
I cried like a child. And he didn’t judge me.
He just said, "We’re leaving this place. And we’re going to fix this."
He took me out of Zamfara State.
He established me.
He sent me back to school.
He believed in me when I had stopped believing in myself.
Today…
I am married. I am happy. I have a certificate to show for it.
And the same people who wrote me off?
They are now the first to view my status.
The first to comment on my photos.
The first to slide into my DMs.
Life has a way of turning tables ehn 😔
Some of them still don’t have what I have now. Not because I’m better, but because God and one man chose to pull me out of the pit.
If you’re reading this and you’re in that painful place right now — where people are talking, where you feel like quitting, where it feels like no one understands…
Please don’t give up.
Your story isn’t over.
God can rewrite it. And sometimes, He sends a person to help Him do it.
To my husband: Thank you for seeing me when I was invisible.
Thank you for choosing me when I felt unchoosable.
Thank you for giving me my life back ❤️
God, I owe You everything
Pain taught me. God lifted me and love healed me.
