When people raise concerns about the security institutions not doing their job to protect communities from terrorist attacks the people in charge should take responsibility give reassurance and take strong action. They should not make things worse for the people who are already living in fear.
It is very disturbing when communities that are facing a lot of violence are treated badly by the security institutions that are supposed to protect them. Of going after the people who are responsible for the terrorist attacks the security institutions are often reported to be taking away the simple tools that people use to protect themselves. This means that people, women, children and old people are not able to get to safety when they need to. Meanwhile the people who are doing the things are often able to get away without being caught.
If this situation is not addressed people will start to lose trust in the security institutions and the justice system. We have seen times in history that when people are not treated fairly and are not protected things can become very unpredictable and dangerous.
The people who are using their power to protect the guys and make things worse for the good guys need to remember that what they are doing is hurting a lot of innocent people. Every person has a family and friends who care about them. This includes many people who work in the security services. If the trust between the people and the security institutions is broken the country will not be stable.
Nigeria needs a security system that protects people goes after the guilty and makes people believe in the rule of law again. Anything less than this is a failure for the people and the country. Nigeria deserves a security system that works for everyone. That is what the people, in charge should be working towards.
