The Day of Pentecost signified the breaking of heaven into earth. It was cataclysmic and apocalyptic. Apocalyptic, meaning the revelation of heaven's rule to the world. Joel signified it by the “moon turning red,” caused by the dust in the atmosphere of an invading army on the horizon, which strikes fear into the heart of the establishment, the status quo. “I came to bring fire upon the earth.” “Do not think I came to bring peace, but a sword.” More metaphors. An army of heaven, coming to shake all things on earth. “I will shake all things,” speaking about the fall of evil kingdoms, for “the kingdom of heaven has come.” This was Christianity when it was birthed, and it was costly. It meant taking up our cross to call the world to repentance. “Do not love this world (the status quo) nor the rewards it brings. For whoever loves this world does not have the love of Father in him.” “My kingdom is not of this world, but from above,” breaking into this world. “Breaking in” signifies conflict, displacement, and a new and better rule.
