_Coalition of Civil Society Organizations Engages Plateau State Police Commissioner on Local Government Elections_

In a proactive move to ensure peaceful and credible local government elections in Plateau State, a coalition of civil society organizations, led by Dr. Gad Peter Shamaki, paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina (psc(+), and his management team. The team included:
- Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of CID
- Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of Operations
- Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of Finance and Administration
- Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO)
The meeting aimed to discuss key areas of collaboration for the upcoming elections on October 9th, 2024.
Dr. Shamaki emphasized the importance of collective efforts in ensuring secure and peaceful elections. Prince Charles Dickson, Salis Abdulsalam, and Yil Fomwul, members of the civil society organizations, added their voices to Dr. Gad Shamaki's call, stressing the need for community policing initiatives, preventing electoral violence, and promoting public awareness.

- Preventing Electoral Violence: Strategies to prevent and mitigate violence before, during, and after the elections.

- Training Programs for Election Security: Providing training for security personnel and civil society organizations to ensure a secure electoral process.
- Promoting Public Awareness: Educating the public on the importance of peaceful elections and their role in maintaining peace.
- Addressing Post-Election Conflicts: Strategies to address potential conflicts that may arise after the elections.
- Leveraging Technology for Election Security Monitoring: Using technology to monitor and ensure the security of the electoral process.
CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina (psc(+) appreciated the coalition's efforts and stressed the need for continued support and partnership to achieve peaceful and credible local government elections in the state. "We value the contributions of civil society organizations in promoting peace and security in Plateau State," he said.
The meeting demonstrates the commitment of both the civil society organizations and the police to ensuring a secure and peaceful electoral process in Plateau State.
