The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has issued a 48-hour deadline to Governor Umar Bago of Niger State, demanding a reversal of what it calls the “arbitrary and unlawful” closure of Badeggi FM 90.1, an independent radio station based in Minna, the state capital.

🔊!!! Plateau Government Approves Transformative Projects for Development

The Plateau State Executive Council, led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, has approved major projects across justice, water, health, infrastructure, and public utilities to boost development. A ₦6 billion edifice for the Ministry of Justice, ₦1.3 billion for water treatment chemicals, and ₦294 million for rural water schemes in Jos East were approved.

Other projects include public toilets to combat cholera, solar-powered streetlights across Jos, and ₦180 million for Bukuru Market roads.

Information Commissioner Joyce Ramnap and Justice Commissioner Daffi emphasized that these decisions are people-centered and aimed at security, dignity, and sustainable development across Plateau State.

Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, during his visit to Operation Safe Haven headquarters in Jos, reaffirmed the military’s commitment to ending violence in Plateau State.

He announced a review of security strategies and urged local leaders to help isolate criminal elements.

General Musa emphasized adapting tactics to the conflict’s asymmetric nature and promised improved logistics and accountability. Commander Major General Oyinlola highlighted operational gains and stronger inter-agency collaboration.

The CDS also visited troops and medical facilities, pledging support and urging vigilance and community engagement to ensure lasting peace.

🔊!!! Pateau Flags Off U.S. Scholarship Initiative With First Batch of Engineering Students

The Plateau State Government has launched a historic postgraduate scholarship programme, sending its first two beneficiaries, Sunday G. Joseph and Nansar Clement Jangfa, to Liberty University, USA.

This initiative, championed by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, stems from a 2023 visit to the university and aims to empower young talents in engineering.

Ten candidates were selected through a rigorous, merit-based process. Governor Mutfwang emphasized the programme as a bold investment in Plateau’s future, urging scholars to return as agents of change.

The initiative reflects Plateau’s commitment to education, global collaboration, and transformative leadership.

Plateau Peace Building Agency Adopts PARTNER Project Structures to Strengthen Community Peacebuilding in Plateau

The Plateau Peace Building Agency (PPBA) has officially adopted the structures of the PARTNER Project during a handover ceremony held at FOX Hotels, Jos. Initiated in 2022 by Mercy Corps with WANEP and IPCR, the project strengthened early warning systems and promoted social cohesion.

Dr. Julie Sanda, PPBA DG, emphasized local ownership, while WANEP’s Manji Mangrock hailed the transition as a sustainability milestone.

Youth leader Vileng Danbaki and other participants shared success stories of restored peace in formerly divided communities. Mr. Nantip Joseph assured continued support, reaffirming PPBA’s commitment to long-term peacebuilding across the state.

🔊!!! Plateau State University Champions Nigerian Culture at Vibrant Festival

Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, celebrated Nigerian heritage through its “GST 112 Cultural Festival” on July 30.

The event featured traditional dances, tribal history presentations, local cuisine, and a national anthem rendition in native languages.

Vice Chancellor Professor Shedrack Best, represented by Associate Professor Obida Yamma, emphasized preserving African culture amidst globalization.

Dr. Priscilla Makos, Head of General Studies, highlighted the festival’s role in uniting diverse tribes and promoting cultural pride.

As part of a mandatory course, the festival inspires students to value and share their rich heritage with the world.
