Federal Government Launches YouthCred Program to Support 400,000 Youths with Loans
The Federal Government has launched a new loan scheme known as YouthCred, aimed at providing easy access to credit for up to 400,000 Nigerian youths, including members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The program is being implemented by the Credit Corporation of Nigeria (CREDICORP) and has already commenced disbursement, with 1,000 NYSC members as initial beneficiaries.
According to CREDICORP, YouthCred is not just a loan scheme, but also a financial literacy campaign designed to educate young people on money management, responsible borrowing, and repayment strategies. All applicants must complete an online training course that teaches essential business skills and financial responsibility. After completing the training, participants can access collateral-free loans.
The program will soon expand beyond NYSC members to include all Nigerian youths aged 18 to 39 who are either employed or running a business. It aims to provide funds for entrepreneurship or to purchase modern tools and equipment to improve their livelihoods.
CREDICORP emphasized that the initiative is designed to build a new generation of financially literate youth who understand the value of credit and responsible debt management contributing to national economic growth and job creation.
