GOVERNOR MUTFWANG CALLS FOR STRONGER ACTION AGAINST SMALL ARMS PROLIFERATION, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO SECURING LIVES AND PROPERTY

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has urged decisive and coordinated action to curb the proliferation of small arms and light weapons, warning that their spread among bandits and criminal networks poses one of the gravest threats to peace and national security.

The Governor made the call on Monday, September 15, 2025, while receiving the Zonal Director of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), Abdul Adamu Eneche (rtd. Deputy Director General), and his delegation at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.

Governor Mutfwang decried Nigeria’s porous borders, which have enabled the influx and circulation of dangerous weapons, emboldening non-state actors and aggravating insecurity

“Indeed, it is very worrisome that a large number of arms and ammunition have found their way into the hands of non-state actors,” he lamented.

Highlighting recent security successes in Plateau State, the Governor disclosed that security agencies had intercepted and confiscated over 40 AK-47 rifles, a development he said reflects both the scale of the problem and the vigilance of security operatives. He charged the NCCSALW to intensify its intelligence-driven operations to disrupt illegal arms networks while ensuring that legitimate self-defense efforts are not misrepresented.

“Let’s go after the real criminals,” Governor Mutfwang emphasized. “We must activate and strengthen our intelligence networks to intercept these arms. Where necessary, we will invest in intelligence gathering. As a government, we have directed all our local government chairmen to pe*****te the criminal networks of those we have glamorized as ‘bandits’, but who, in truth, are dangerous criminals and murderers.”

The Governor assured the Centre of his administration’s unwavering commitment to collaborate with federal agencies and security stakeholders to reinforce peace and security across Plateau State.

In his remarks, Zonal Director Eneche commended the Plateau State Government for its robust support to law enforcement efforts, describing Plateau as a vital partner in the national campaign against arms proliferation.

“It is on this premise that the Federal Government established the Centre to stem the tide of small arms and light weapons,” Eneche noted, reaffirming NCCSALW’s readiness to partner with the state in intelligence gathering, public sensitization, and enforcement operations.

The meeting underscored a shared resolve between Plateau State and the NCCSALW to deepen collaboration in safeguarding lives, property, and the stability of the nation.

EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN OF JOS EAST LGC, HON. CHIEF MARKUS USAINI NYAM AND OVER 200 APPOINTEES ENDORSE GOVERNOR CALEB MUTFWANG FOR SECOND TERM BIDS

In a show of commitment to re-strengthening the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Jos East, the Executive Chairman of Jos East Local Government Council, Hon. Chief Markus Usaini Nyam, convened a meeting with his over 200 appointees at Angware today.

During the meeting, Hon. Ilimi moved a motion to endorse the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, for a second term bid in 2027. The motion was unanimously seconded by all present, who also passed a vote of confidence in the leadership qualities of the Executive Chairman of Jos East.

The meeting highlighted the achievements of the Chairman as well as the ongoing projects and initiatives of Governor Mutfwang in the community. Critical challenges affecting the community and the party were also discussed, with possible ways to address them and prepare ahead of the 2027 elections.

In response, the Executive Chairman expressed his appreciation for the support and contributions of his appointees to the administration vision. He reiterated his commitment to reaching out to other communities in the LGA and addressing the concerns raised by the appointees to solidify the PDP in Jos East.

The Chairman commended Governor Mutfwang for his generous projects in Jos East, including ongoing road and health care projects. He called on the people of Jos East to re-elect Governor Mutfwang for a second term, citing his track record of development across Jos East and the state.

He emphasized the need for unity within the PDP, urging appointees to put aside caucus differences after primaries and focus on projecting the party's candidates to victory in 2027. Any anti-party behavior after the primaries will be met with discipline, he warned.

Hon. Chief Markus Usaini Nyam also pledged to address the network issues in Godong and other areas, promising to install network boosters to improve communication. He encouraged appointees to reach out to their communities at the grassroots level to strengthen relationships and promote the party's agenda.

The Chairman called for the support of the people in prayers as he committed to serving the masses and delivering dividends of democracy. He delegated responsibilities to appointees to mobilize support for Governor Mutfwang in their respective units and wards, urging all good people of Jos East LGA to rally behind the Governor for a successful 2027 campaign.

GOVERNOR MUTFWANG FLAGS OFF HOUSING ESTATE TO EASE ACCOMMODATION DEFICIT FOR CIVIL SERVANTS

The Plateau State Governor, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has officially flagged off the construction of a 400-unit housing estate for civil servants, describing the initiative as a major milestone in his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and sustainable development. The project is part of a broader 2,000-unit workers’ housing scheme being implemented across the state.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony held in Zanwra, Nkie Miango District of Bassa Local Government Area, Governor Mutfwang said the project signifies more than just physical structures.

“Today, we are not merely laying foundation stones; we are laying the foundation of hope, dignity, and stability for our hardworking and dedicated workforce,” he declared.

The Governor emphasized that the initiative is a deliberate social and welfare strategy aimed at prioritizing the wellbeing of civil servants, whom he described as “the true and reliable pillars of good governance.”

Highlighting reforms already implemented to restore workers’ pride and morale, Governor Mutfwang recalled:

“When we came into office, we restored trust, renewed dignity, and repositioned our civil servants as a model of excellence. We cleared months of accumulated salary arrears and restored regular, timely salary payments. We settled decades-old pension and gratuity backlogs, some dating as far back as 1986, and began paying death benefits to families who had long given up hope. We increased pensions by up to 100%, raising the minimum pension from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000. We approved the new ₦70,000 minimum wage for Plateau State civil servants. By the grace of God, and with the cooperation of all stakeholders, we have made remarkable progress in this direction.”

Governor Mutfwang further disclosed that the government acquired 38.299 hectares of land in Zanwra at a total cost of ₦346,542,000, fully paid for to ensure the smooth ex*****on of the project.

“Housing is not a privilege, it is a right. A decent home provides comfort, security, and a stable foundation for a dignified life,” he affirmed. “With this project, we are not just building houses; we are creating homes, communities, and enduring legacies. It is our firm commitment to replicate similar housing developments in other parts of Plateau State so that civil servants everywhere can benefit from this vision of shared prosperity.”

Plateau State NLC Chairman, Comrade Eugene Manji, lauded the government for reviving the workers’ housing scheme and ensuring full land payment, describing it as the first of its kind dedicated to Plateau civil servants.

“We have already engaged the developers, GST Group International Limited, who are eager to commence work. Within one to two months, by the time you return here, we will be ready to commission the third phase of the project,” Manji assured.

Head of Civil Service, Mr. Stephen Pam Godong, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to fairness in housing allocation, explaining that beneficiaries will be chosen through a transparent process based on years of service, income brackets, and contributions to the National Housing Fund.

On behalf of the developers, Engr. Christopher Nathaniel of DSK Group of Companies pledged that every unit will meet the highest standards of design and durability, including solar power, reliable electricity, clean boreholes, and eco-friendly infrastructure. He noted that the estate will also feature schools, clinics, community centers, and recreational spaces, generating over 3,000 direct and indirect jobs, empowering local contractors, and boosting the state’s construction supply chain.

In goodwill messages, TUC Chairman Kenneth Shamma appealed for alternative routes linking the estate to the city center, while HRH Ronku Aka, the Bra Ngwe Irigwe, commended the Governor for his developmental strides and called for strengthened security in the area.

The ceremony culminated with the symbolic laying of the foundation by Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, marking a significant step toward addressing Plateau State’s accommodation deficit for civil servants.
