POLICE PRESS RELEASE
PLATEAU STATE POLICE COMMAND DISMANTLE CAR THEFT SYNDICATE, RECOVER STOLEN VEHICLES
The Plateau State Police Command under the leadership of CP Bassey Ewah, psc (++), FCAI, MSPSP has dismantled a notorious car theft syndicate operating within Jos, Kano, Kaduna and beyond the State. This significant breakthrough was made possible through concerted efforts with officers from the command and Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Abuja. Suspects arrested comprise both members of the syndicate responsible for stealing vehicles from where it was packed and at gun point and those involved in receiving and facilitating the disposal of the stolen cars.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the group had been engaged in a series of criminal activities, including stealing vehicles from where they are parked and snatching cars at gunpoint. In some instances, the suspects reportedly used seat belts from vehicles as improvised towing tools to facilitate the movement of stolen cars.
As part of ongoing investigations, the Command wishes to make public these recovered vehicle plate numbers to enable rightful owners to identify their vehicles and come forward. This measure is aimed at advancing the investigation and ensuring that recovered properties are returned to their rightful owners.
Items recovered from the suspects include tools and devices used in perpetrating the crimes, such as "improvised master keys" tailored to unlock certain brands of cars, keys belonging to victims, and several number plates. While some of the plates originate from other states, a significant number belong to Plateau State. The following cars were also recovered:
1. Corolla LE (Silver Color).
2. Corolla 96 model (Silver Color).
3. Pontiac Vibe (Dark Ash Color).
4. Honda City (Black Color).
5. Toyota Sienna (Black Color)
