Are YOU A University Student In Nigeria? See How Starting A Business On Campus Got Me A Job!

After graduating from university and completing my NYSC program, I got a job almost immediately. It was so quick that many acquaintances didn’t believe it. Many said I was just lucky, and others assumed I had connections and were asking me to help them, too, with my connections.

I noticed that while many fresh graduates struggled to secure good jobs, the business I started on campus provided me with one.

Was I just lucky? Was it my connections?

YES and NO.

YES, because I was on my own. I didn’t even apply (I had to write and submit an application letter after I resumed work for documentation purposes); I was just called upon to resume work because someone recommended (connected) me.

And NO, because the job didn’t happen in isolation. It happened because I started a business while I was in university.

Starting a business on campus gave me a significant advantage. It made me somewhat qualified for the job.

Simply put, starting and running a business as a university student brought me luck & connections.

That’s what student entrepreneurship can do for you. It puts you far ahead and gives you leverage.

Are YOU A University Student In Nigeria? Fine-Tune Your Mind To Embrace Student Entrepreneurship.

In one of my posts, I suggested that if you’re a broke university student, you need to do something to stop being broke. I also mentioned that there are numerous things you can do.

However, from experience, the first thing you should do is to fine-tune your mind to embrace student entrepreneurship.

🔥 What does that mean?

Simply put, it means developing the right mindset needed to do business as a uni student.

How can you develop the right mindset?

🔥 Simple answer: Educate your mind!

Become intentional. Read, listen to, and watch content focused on entrepreneurship, business, and money-making.

The advice to “read books” might sound cliché, but at this age and time, it’s not just about books. It’s about the content you consume regularly. From Facebook, to Twitter, Snapchat, to TikTok.

Fill your mind with business sense. Turn your mind to a pool of business ideas and strategies.

That’s how to fine-tune your mind to embrace student entrepreneurship!

Are YOU A University Student In Nigeria? There Are 3 Reasons Why You Should Start A Business On Campus ASAP!

Starting and running a business as a university student on campus in Nigeria has great benefits, but take these 3:

🔥 #1:
Make Money!

The reason for any business venture is profit (money). I have seen & met numerous students who have earned plenty of cash doing business on campus. You, too, can become one.

🔥 #2:
Learning!

Granted. Not every uni student who starts a business will end up with a successful business venture or even make substantial money. BUT in reality, all will end up rich in experience & personal growth. Remember, experience is the best teacher; & trust me: the experience you’ll get from starting & running a business while in uni trumps making money.

🔥 #3:
You might just start something “huge”!

I did a post on tech businesses that were started on campus & have grown to become global business giants. An interesting takeaway was that none of the founders of those companies knew for sure that they’d become as big as they are today.

So… who knows?

That small business you start in uni might become something big, & employ hundreds or even thousands of graduates in the future.

Are YOU A University Student In Nigeria? What Profitable Business Can You Start? And With What Capital?

Whenever I suggest to uni students that they start a business, I always get asked these two questions. Always:

Question #1: What Profitable Business Can A Student Start?

Question #2: With What Capital?

And always, this is my response:

If you are a uni student in 100-level, you are “permitted” to ask such questions. However, if you’re in 200-level and above and do not have the right answers to questions #1 and #2 above, then there’s a problem.

🔥 And here’s the problem:

You do not have the right & needed mindset to start a business as a uni student.

Why do I say so?

Any student with the right & needed mindset for student entrepreneurship will definitely not be asking such questions.

So even if I tell you the profitable business to start and give you capital (money) to start, you’d still fail. The business venture will not succeed. Trust me.

🔥 Here’s what you must do urgently:

Start by developing the right & needed mindset for starting a business on campus. The right mindset will help you answer such questions!

How do you develop the right mindset?

Simple answer: Educate yourself! Learn all you can about student entrepreneurship.

BUT…

In summary:

As a uni student, if you don’t know what business to start, or if you think you don’t have the required capital to start, then there is a bigger problem: You do not have the right & needed mindset for starting a business as a uni student.

Start by developing the right/needed mindset by educating yourself!

Are You a Broke University Student?

Students from rich homes appear to have no worries; they look 'cleaner', use the latest phones, eat at the best campus eateries and always have money to buy all study materials and textbooks.

On the other hand, as a broke (poor/not financially strong) student, you mostly struggle through the semester; often not having enough cash, & you can only afford to buy study materials for 'life-threatening' courses.

Here’s the Question:

What should a broke Uni student do?

Should you attempt to alter your financial state?

Or should you endure this poverty and struggle until you graduate?

But again, there's no 100 per cent guarantee that you’ll stop being broke after you graduate.

So…

Here’s my candid advice:

"Do something".

Even as a university student, you can change your poverty story and find your way out. I am telling you this from experience.

If you are tired of being broke, you must stop wishing or dreaming of a better financial life that will come in the future while you fold your arms.

Because you can either do something today to initiate change or do nothing and remain the same.

Final Thoughts…

One of the surest ways to 'Do Something" is to start a profitable business on campus.

But you might ask:

What's the profitable business I can start?
