PRESS RELEASE
REWIENKU COMMUNITY COMMENCES SELF-FUNDED ROAD CONSTRUCTION AFTER 40 YEARS OF GOVERNMENT NEGLECT
The people of Rewienku Community have officially commenced the construction of long-awaited motorable roads to connect key parts of the village — a major step toward ending over four decades of isolation and hardship due to government neglect and turning deaf ears to their plead despite voting them into power in election exercise.
For more than 40 years, Rewienku Community has suffered from poor road infrastructure, which has severely hindered transportation, access to healthcare, education, and economic activities. Despite several appeals to successive governments, no action was taken to address the community’s infrastructural needs.
In a bold show of unity and self-reliance, members of the community have now begun two major road construction projects:
1. Construction of a motorable road linking Nyie Ribeh and Nyie Rikwengu which took place on the 29 October 2025
2. Construction of a motorable road from Twins Junction, linking Nyie Rikwengu to Nyie Ribah and Nyie Wuzu of Rewienku Village.
These projects, initiated and funded by the Rewienku Community Development Association (RCDA) with the active participation of community members and local supporters, mark a historic step toward improving mobility, trade, and social interaction among the people of Rewienku.
Speaking during the project’s flag-off ceremony, Mai angwa Gado Wiki (senior Mai angwa rewienku village) Comr Moses Gado ( Rewienku Youth Development Association Chairman), and elder Jonathan Kura ( Community Leader of Rewienku) expressed deep appreciation for the unity and determination shown by the people, while also lamenting decades of government inaction.

“We have waited patiently for over 40 years, appealing to different administrations without any result. Today, our people have taken the initiative to build what government has failed to provide,” Mai angwa Gado Wiki said. “This road is not jus

THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN, BASSA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, WELCOMES INEC OFFICIALS ON CUSTOMER CARE WEEK

Bassa LGA, October 9, 2025 — The Executive Chairman of Bassa Local Government Area, Hon. Joshua Sunday Riti, MNES, PhD, today welcomed officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to Bassa LGA as part of activities marking the INEC Customer Care Week, which commenced at the office of the Electoral Officer in Bassa.

In his address, Hon. Dr. Riti expressed appreciation to INEC for choosing Bassa LGA as a starting point for this year’s Customer Care Week. He commended the Commission for its continuous efforts in improving voter engagement and ensuring transparency in electoral processes.

The Chairman also acknowledged the presence of the Leader of the Bassa Legislative Arm, Rt. Hon. Markus David Sunimun, the Councilors, the Information Officer of Bassa Local Government Council, and officials of the National Orientation and Education (NOE) Unit of INEC — the department responsible for voter education, public enlightenment, and civic orientation.

Hon. Dr. Riti further appealed to INEC to consider taking voter registration exercises to rural communities, noting that many villagers find it difficult to travel to registration centers in Bassa town. He emphasized that permanent voter card (PVC) registration remains the only valid means for citizens to exercise their franchise.

This participation underscores Dr. Riti’s unwavering commitment to the welfare, rights, and development of his people.

Signed:
James Bawa Rigye
Chief Press Secretary to the
Executive Chairman, Bassa LGA
