PLATEAU STATE YOUTH COUNCIL CAUTIONS AGAINST IMPOSTION OF CANDIDATES, CALLS FOR FAIRNESS AHEAD OF PARTY PRIMARIES ON THE PLATEAU

Thursday 14th May, 2026

The Plateau State Youth Council wishes to call on all political parties participating in the forthcoming party primaries across the state to uphold the core values and principles of democracy by ensuring that the wishes and aspirations of party members are respected at all levels. As the primaries commence tomorrow, starting with the ALL PROGRESSIVESCONGRESS(APC), we strongly caution against the imposition of candidates on the people, as such actions undermine democratic ideals, weaken public confidence in the electoral process, and deny citizens the right to freely choose their preferred representatives.

We equally urge the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), party leaders, stakeholders, and delegates to conduct themselves with fairness, transparency, and integrity throughout the exercise. Democracy thrives where justice, equity, and credibility are upheld, and it is important that all actors involved in this process demonstrate commitment to free, fair, and credible primaries that reflect the genuine will of the people of Plateau.

The Council further draws attention to the fragile peace and stability being nurtured across Plateau State and warns that undemocratic practices such as candidate imposition, manipulation of results, and political intimidation could trigger avoidable tensions and violence. We therefore appeal to all stakeholders to place the peace, unity, and progress of Plateau State above personal or political interests, as no political ambition is worth the breakdown of law and order or the loss of lives.

While wishing all aspirants success in the upcoming primaries, especially young candidates seeking to contribute meaningfully to governance and leadership, the Plateau State Youth Council sincerely prays that the best, most competent, and capable hands emerge through transparent processes to provide purposeful leadership for the people of Plateau State. We remain hopeful that this democratic exercise will strengthen our political system and advance the collective interest of our dear state.

Goodluck to All Aspirants and

PLATEAU STATE YOUTH COUNCIL SUES FOR SELF DEFENCE AMIDST WORSENING INSECURITY ON THE PLATEAU

Thursday 7th May, 2026.

The Plateau State Youth Council unequivocally condemns the continuous and coordinated attacks being carried out against innocent communities across Plateau State by armed Fulani militias operating within our territory, particularly in Barlin Ladi of recent.

It is deeply troubling that these attacks are occurring barely one month after the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Plateau State and the subsequent engagement between leaders and stakeholders of the state and the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The recurrence of these violent incidents despite those high level engagements raises serious concerns about the safety and protection of our people.

We are equally disturbed by comments allegedly attributed to one of the stake holders in the entourage suggesting that these attacks are connected to the exclusion of Fulani interests from the governance structure of the state. Such remarks, if truly made, are dangerous, unfortunate, and capable of escalating tensions at a time when peace and unity should be prioritized. This is particularly disappointing because no Plateau man has been duly factored into any leadership structure outside Plateau state. So we wonder why the particular interest on Plateau and from just a particular ethnic group when we have the Igbos, Yoruba, Hausa and many others living in Plateau and not demanding or creating issues with the political structure of Plateau state.

On Tuesday, 5th May 2026, a community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area came under attack, resulting in the tragic loss of seven lives. A mass burial was held on Wednesday, 6th May 2026, in honour of the victims. Shockingly, while grieving families and community members were gathered for the burial, another attack was launched by the same armed militias, leading to the death of two more persons and the destruction of two houses by fire.

Our findings indicate that all efforts made to contact the Unit Commander under Sector 4 in Barkin Ladi, identified as Umar Kabiru, who was responsible for security coverage in the affected village before and during the attacks, proved unsuccessful until after the destruction had already occurred.

The Plateau State Youth Council is concerned that our People, haven been consistently law abiding and cooperative with security agencies by providing intelligence and early warning information aimed at preventing these attacks, yet, these efforts have yielded little or no results. In light of the persistent killings and the apparent failure of response mechanisms, we are compelled to call for a thorough investigation into the activities of security personnel operating in Plateau State in order to identify and remove any compromised elements undermining the fight against terrorism and insecurity.

We further call on the Federal Government and all relevant security authorities to take urgent and decisive steps to protect lives and communities across Plateau State. The continued silence and inadequate response to these repeated attacks only deepen the frustration and sense of abandonment felt by our people.

While urging our people to remain vigilant, united, and law abiding, we also acknowledge the growing concerns and helplessness being experienced across affected communities following years of recurring violence and inadequate protection and consequentially, are left with with no choice than to ask our People to defend their families and communities. Self defence is not a crime in the eye of the Nigerian Law.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in these tragic attacks and pray that God grants them comfort, strength, and peace during this difficult time.

PLATEAU STATE YOUTH COUNCIL CONDEMNS ATTACK ON THE CONVOY OF HIS ROYAL MAJESTY NDE JIKA GOLIT, THE NGOLONG NGAS, CALLS FOR UNITY AND RESTRAIN AMONGST NGAS YOUTH MOVEMENT AND MWAGHAVUL YOUTH MOVEMENT.

Sunday 3rd May, 2026

The Plateau State Youth Council strongly condemns the attack on the convoy of His Royal Majesty, Nde Jika Golit, the Ngolong Ngas and Paramount Ruler of the Ngas Nation, which occurred on Friday, May 1, 2026, while he was returning from an official function.

While we understand that His Majesty encountered a mob of angry Youths protesting, expressing grievances following a recent attack on a community in Mangu Local Government Area, we must acknowledge and emphasize that such expressions didn't remain within their rights, haven turned violent and disorderly. It is deeply regrettable and unacceptable that emotions escalated into violence, leading to an attack on innocent commuters, particularly a revered traditional ruler of such high standing.

We further note with concern that the situation reflects lapses in security preparedness. The apparent inadequacy in the mobilization of security personnel to manage the protest and prevent such incidents is unacceptable and calls for urgent review.

The Plateau State Youth Council reiterates that the Mwaghavul Nation and the Ngas Nation have enjoyed a long-standing history of peaceful coexistence and shared identity. This unfortunate incident must not be allowed to undermine or redefine the strong bonds that have been built over generations.

We call on all Plateau youths to remain calm, exercise restraint, and desist from making statements(especially on the social media) or taking actions that could further inflame tensions. At a time like this, unity is paramount. We must very importantly draw the attention of our Youths to the fact that, the enemy within is watching and our resolve must be to never allow the enemy exploit our differences for their own gain.

We also urge the leadership of both the Ngas Youth Movement and the Mwaghavul Youth Movement, haven followed the situation very keenly to as a matter of urgency, engage in constructive dialogue aimed at fostering mutual understanding between the two communities, and in turn, putting this matter to rest.

On behalf of the youths of Plateau State, we extend our sincere apologies to the Ngas Nation, and particularly to His Royal Majesty, Nde Jika Golit, the Ngolong Ngas. We appeal for understanding and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the values of respect, unity, and peaceful coexistence.

We extend our sympathy to families of those who lost loved ones in the recent attacks by Fulani marauders in Mangu and pray for peace and comfort while urging the government to swiftly act in order to bring an end to the insecurity on the Plateau.

May peace reign in Plateau State.
May unity prevail among our people.

PLATEAU STATE YOUTH COUNCIL CONDEMNS THE ABDUCTION AND FORCEFUL CONVERSION OF MISS JINKAI YUSUF SIMON, DEMANDS URGENT ACTION

Saturday 2nd May, 2026

The attention of the leadership of the Plateau State Youth Council has been drawn to a verified and deeply troubling report concerning the forceful abduction and alleged religious coercion of one of our own, Miss Jinkai Yusuf Simon, in Kuregu, Zaria, Kaduna State.

Miss Jinkai Yusuf Simon is a 17-year-old student, born into the family of Mr. Yusuf Simon, an indigene of Danchor, Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State, and currently resident in Banki, Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Prior to this unfortunate incident, she was living with her elder sister, Miss Jennifer Yusuf Simon, in Kuregu, Zaria LGA, where she is a Senior Secondary School 1(SS1) student of St. Bartholomew’s Secondary School, Wusasa, Zaria.

Available information at the disposal of the Plateau State Youth Council Leadership indicates that Miss Jinkai left home for school but failed to return. Days later, her school bag was discovered in the possession of a minor reportedly linked to one Rukkaya, a neighbour who initially denied knowledge of her whereabouts but later disclosed that Jinkai had been in communication with a man identified as Abdulsamad.

Further disturbing revelations include photographic evidence of the minor dressed in a hijab with Rukkaya, alongside alleged court affidavits originating from Kano State, suggesting that her identity had been altered to “Aisha Sani” and “Aisha Abdulsamad,” with a corresponding adjustment of her age.

The Plateau State Youth Council strongly condemns this reprehensible act, which constitutes a gross violation of fundamental human rights. This includes, but is not limited to:
Section 38 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which guarantees freedom of thought, conscience, and religion.
Section 34, which guarantees the right to dignity of the human person and prohibits inhuman or degrading treatment.
Section 35, which guarantees the right to personal liberty and protects citizens from unlawful detention or abduction.

Additionally, this act is in clear violation of Section 27, Part III of the Child Rights Act (2003), which prohibits the unlawful removal of a child from the custody of their parents or guardians.

In light of the foregoing, the Plateau State Youth Council makes the following demands:

An immediate and thorough investigation by the Department of State Services (DSS), the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and the Nigerian Police Force.

Swift action to secure the rescue, protection, rehabilitation, and safe reunification of Miss Jinkai Yusuf Simon with her family.

The prompt identification, arrest, and prosecution of all individuals involved in this criminal act, to ensure justice is served and to deter future occurrences.

This case bears the clear markings of child trafficking, exploitation, and abuse. As a minor, Miss Jinkai cannot legally give informed consent, and any attempt to manipulate her identity, age, or religious affiliation constitutes a grave injustice that must not be tolerated.

We also call on the good people of Plateau State and Nigerians at large to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding our children and communities against such acts.

The Plateau State Youth Council reaffirms it commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and future of every young person, and we will continue to pursue justice until Miss Jinkai is safely returned.

PROF. NENTAWE'S EMERGENCE AS SUBSTANTIVE NATIONAL CHAIRMAN OF THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS, A PROUD MOMENT FOR THE YOUTHS OF PLATEAU

March 28th, 2026.

The Youths of Plateau State, through her leadership, the Plateau State Youth Council heartily congratulate Professor Nentawe Yilwatda on his emergence as the substantive National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC) following his election at the party’s National Convention, Yesterday 27th March, 2026.

This development marks a significant milestone not only for the party but also for Plateau State, as Professor Nentawe’s leadership journey continues to inspire confidence across the country. Having served in this capacity since July 2025, his re-election is a clear affirmation of the trust and confidence reposed in his ability to provide purposeful leadership.

Professor Nentawe’s brief period as Chairman was characterized by strategic political engagements, remarkable diplomacy, and visible results that strengthened the party’s national standing. His pivotal role in facilitating the defection of not fewer than ten governors, alongside numerous former and serving national legislators from opposition parties into the All Progressives Congress(APC), stands as evidence of his political tact, humility, and ability to build consensus across diverse interests.

His emergence through broad internal consensus further reflects the confidence party stakeholders have in his leadership style and his commitment to unity within the party. By strengthening internal cohesion and fostering mutual trust among party leaders, Professor Nentawe has demonstrated exceptional courage, strategic depth, and the leadership excellence associated with the people of Plateau State. His election has once again placed the State in National prominence and reinforced the growing recognition of Plateau’s contributions to national progress and development.

As youths of Plateau State, we pray that God grants him wisdom, strength, and discernment as he leads the All Progressives Congress at this crucial time, particularly as the nation gradually approaches the 2027 general elections. We wish him continued success and pray that his tenure will further deepen democratic values, strengthen party unity, and advance national development, with benefits to the people of Plateau.

Congratulations Nde, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe

PLATEAU STATE YOUTH COUNCIL APPEALS FOR CALM AMONGST BARC FARMS BENEFICIARIES, DISOWNS PLANNED MEETING/PROTEST

March 20th, 2026.

The attention of the leadership of the Plateau State Youth Council has been drawn to reports of an unauthorised meeting and planned protest allegedly being mobilised by certain political actors and agents of disorder, through a group of youths alleged to be beneficiaries of the Plateau Youth Agricultural Empowerment Programme(P-YAEP) conducted last year at Brewery Agro Research Company Farms (BARC Farms).

While the Council recognises and respects the constitutional right of every Nigerian citizen to peaceful assembly and lawful expression, it has become necessary to clearly distance itself from any such gathering that is not sanctioned by the recognised leadership of Plateau youths.

The Council wishes to state that it fully understands the frustration, anxiety, and growing concerns among beneficiaries over the delay in the payment of their entitlements. In response to these concerns, the Council has consistently utilised available communication channels and media platforms to engage government authorities, strongly appealing and demanding that all legitimate beneficiaries be paid accordingly.

Beyond public advocacy, the Council has sustained direct engagement with the technical team to the Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, regarding the empowerment scheme, and remains actively committed to ensuring that the matter is resolved in the interest of our youths. It is, therefore, our considered position that any protest or parallel meeting at this sensitive stage may undermine the constructive efforts already being pursued through dialogue and official engagement.

The Youth Council further wishes to inform beneficiaries and the general public that the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Mobilisation, Hon. Hi**er Pwajok has officially communicated the leadership of the Youth Council that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Plateau State Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has been fully briefed on the issue surrounding the outstanding entitlement and He has graciously directed that the entitlements be reviewed upwardly in the interest of fairness to beneficiaries, a development which partly accounts for the delay currently being experienced in the payment process.

This assurance should reinforce confidence that the concerns of participants have not been ignored and that the government remains committed to addressing them responsibly.

In light of this, the Plateau State Youth Council passionately appeals for calm, patience, and restraint while urging all concerned parties to allow dialogue and diplomacy to continue yielding results.

Security reports also suggest that criminal elements may seek to exploit any protest or gathering to cause mayhem and destabilise the fragile peace that citizens of Plateau State have collectively labored to build. As responsible leaders, we have taken necessary steps to ensure that such threats do not materialise, and we call on all youths to remain vigilant, peaceful, and law abiding in the collective interest of the state.

THE KANAM(KYARAM, WANKA) TRAGEDY: PLATEAU STATE YOUTH COUNCIL CALLS FOR SECURITY REFORMS, OFFERS CONDOLENCES

March 15th, 2026.

The tragic incident which occurred in the early hours of 14th March, 2026 in Wanka and Kyaram villages of Kanam Local Government which reportedly claimed the lives of twelve security personnel and eight civilians(happening barely a month after the Dorowa Babuje incident) is yet another painful reminder that the security crisis confronting Plateau State has assumed deeply troubling proportions.

When those entrusted with the difficult responsibility of defending lives and territory also fall in such devastating circumstances, these question naturally arise, begging for answers: what then becomes of the ordinary citizen whose daily existence depends almost entirely on the assurance that government and security institutions remain capable of protecting life and property? If trained and armed personnel can be overwhelmed, what confidence is left for farming communities, travellers, women, children, and vulnerable rural populations across Plateau?

This sad development compels serious reflection on the current security architecture within the state. For years, citizens, community leaders, youth groups, and stakeholders have consistently raised alarms, called for preventive strategies, demanded stronger intelligence coordination, and appealed for more proactive interventions against recurring attacks. Yet, painful incidents continue to occur with disturbing regularity. One is therefore forced to ask: are existing responses sufficient for the peculiar threats facing Plateau? Should measurable actions give way to repeated condolences and press statements? How many more communities must endure grief before stronger, deliberate, and sustained security reforms are pursued with the urgency they deserve?

The implications of this reality are grave. Beyond the immediate loss of lives, every renewed attack weakens public trust, deepens fear among rural dwellers, disrupts economic activities, discourages agricultural productivity, and gradually normalizes insecurity in the minds of young people growing up within affected communities. A generation that should be focused on productivity and development is increasingly being forced to live under the shadow of uncertainty. This must concern every level of leadership because no society can genuinely progress where citizens live in fear and communities remain exposed to repeated threats.

The time has therefore come for government at all levels to move beyond reactive measures and accelerate practical reforms that strengthen local security capacity. In this regard, the conversation around state policing must no longer remain theoretical and Government must speed up efforts to bring it to fruition.

The peculiar terrain and recurring nature of attacks in Plateau demand a security framework that is closer to the people, better informed by local realities, and more responsive to emerging threats. State police, properly structured, can significantly complement existing federal security efforts which have not proven to be sufficient over the years, and provides the immediacy required in intelligence gathering, early warning response, and territorial protection.

The Plateau State Youth Council extends heartfelt condolences to the security agencies operating across Plateau, especially to the families of the fallen personnels whose sacrifices reflects uncommon courage and service.

We also sympathize deeply with the bereaved families of the Vigilante Officers in Kanam, the entire local government area, and all citizens of Plateau mourning this painful loss.

We pray that God grants comfort to every affected home, strengthens the hands of those working daily for peace, and restores lasting peace across every community in Plateau. May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may our land once again know stability, safety, and enduring peace.

March 12th, 2026.

On behalf of the over three million youths of Plateau State, the Plateau State Youth Council wishes to congratulate the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, on the occasion of his 61st birthday. This milestone offers us the privilege to celebrate a leader whose life of service, humility, and commitment to the welfare of the people continues to inspire hope and confidence across the state.

The Council also acknowledges and deeply appreciates your commitment to promoting unity and fostering inclusive governance in Plateau State. Your openness to youth participation and your deliberate efforts to create opportunities for young people to contribute meaningfully to governance reflect a leadership style that recognizes the critical role of the youth in shaping the future. Furthermore, your administration’s infrastructural strides across the state continue to lay a solid foundation for sustainable growth and development.

The Youth Council also notes with pride the recent recognitions you recently received, including the award by Silverbird Group as the Governor of the Year, applauds by the President, His Excellency Sen.
