Team Yomi Kola Visits Rep. Abejide, Pledges Support for Tinubu, Ododo Re-election.

Former Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Matthew Kolawole, has led members of Team Yomi Kola and other All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders from Kabba/Bunu and Ijumu Federal Constituency on a solidarity visit to the Member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide.

The delegation, which included the team’s coordinators across the 30 wards in Kabba/Bunu and Ijumu Federal Constituency, pledged support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kogi State Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo, while commending Abejide’s contributions to development in Okunland and Kogi State.

Speaking during the visit, Kolawole described Abejide as a leader whose record of representation and community interventions had left a lasting impact on Yagba, the wider Okun area, and the state.

He said the visit was aimed at strengthening political cooperation and rallying support for the APC-led administrations at the federal and state levels.

Among those who accompanied Kolawole were Hon. Sunday Demokun, Hon. Paul Obamo, Mrs. Paul Obamo, Hon. Folorunsho Ajayi, Comrade Stephen Aliu, Hon. Toyin Kamaldeen, Comrade Juwon Oloruntoba, Hon. Sunday Ampitan, Hon. Sunday Ojo, Hon. Yinka Bebeyi, and other party stakeholders.

Responding, Abejide thanked Kolawole and members of the delegation for the visit and their expressions of support.

The lawmaker highlighted some of his interventions in Kabba/Bunu and Ijumu Federal Constituency, including an ongoing ₦60 million non-interest loan programme, which he said was planned to be expanded to ₦100 million, as well as the payment of WAEC examination fees for students in private secondary schools.

Abejide used the occasion to call on sons and daughters of Okunland to unite in support of Governor Ododo’s second-term aspiration, arguing that political unity and continuity would strengthen the region’s position in future leadership arrangements.

He urged members of the delegation to take the message of support for the re-election of President Tinubu and Governor Ododo to communities across Okunland.

The visit underscored ongoing efforts by political stakeholders in Kogi West to build alliances and mobilise grassroots support ahead of future electoral contests.

Kogi West APC Ticket: Aro Drags APC, Karimi, INEC to Court Over Senatorial Primary

A fresh legal battle has emerged over the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Kogi West, as Hon. Samuel Bamidele Aro has filed a suit before the Federal High Court in Lokoja challenging the APC, Senator Sunday Steve Karimi and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In the originating summons, Aro is asking the court to determine whether the APC complied with its constitution, electoral guidelines and the Electoral Act in the nomination of its candidate for the 2027 Kogi West Senatorial election.

He is also challenging the validity of the party’s submission of Senator Karimi’s name to INEC.

Aro is seeking a declaration that the APC primary election held on 18 May 2026 validly produced him as the winner and that the subsequent submission of another candidate’s name to INEC on 11 July 2026 is unlawful, null and void.

The plaintiff further argues that since he has not withdrawn his candidacy, the APC is bound to recognise him as its lawful candidate for the election.

Among the reliefs sought is an order directing INEC to accept and recognise his name as the APC candidate for Kogi West Senatorial District in the 2027 general election.

The suit marks the latest development in the dispute surrounding the APC senatorial primary in Kogi West.

Senator Karimi was officially declared winner of the 18 May 2026 primary after polling 51,665 votes, according to Returning Officer Isah Haruna. Reports at the time indicated that Aro and some other aspirants had withdrawn before the exercise, while Karimi was widely endorsed as the party’s consensus candidate by APC stakeholders with the backing of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Following petitions over the conduct of the primary, the APC National Working Committee (NWC), acting on the report of its Election Appeal Committee, affirmed Karimi as the duly nominated candidate and submitted his name to INEC.

While some APC stakeholders have criticised Aro’s legal challenge, describing it as capable of reopening internal divisions within the party, others note that he is exercising his constitutional right to seek judicial interpretation of the primary process.

The Federal High Court is expected to consider the claims made by the plaintiff and the responses of the defendants in the coming proceedings.

KOGI LANDMASS BIGGER THAN ENTIRE SOUTH-EAST, MAKING SECURITY OPERATIONS MORE CHALLENGING — Kingsley Femi Fanwo

The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, has said the state’s vast landmass presents a major security challenge, noting that Kogi is geographically larger than the entire South-East region combined.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Fanwo said the state’s size makes surveillance and security operations particularly demanding. He, however, assured residents that the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo remains committed to strengthening security across the state.

According to him, the government has continued to invest heavily in security infrastructure while reinforcing local security mechanisms. He explained that the Kogi State Vigilante Service has been integrated with local hunters to serve as the first line of defence before conventional security agencies intervene.

Fanwo said the collaboration has improved intelligence gathering, rapid response and community policing, contributing to enhanced security in many parts of the state.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining investments in security and working closely with security agencies and local communities to ensure the protection of lives and property across Kogi State.
