The Qur’an is the holy book of Islam, believed by Muslims to be the literal word of God (Allah) as revealed to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ over a period of 23 years, beginning in 610 CE. It is written in classical Arabic and consists of 114 chapters, called surahs, which vary in length and cover themes such as faith, worship, morality, guidance for personal conduct, and laws for society.
The Qur’an emphasizes the oneness of God, compassion, justice, and accountability in the Hereafter. It also recounts the stories of earlier prophets, such as Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, linking Islam to the broader Abrahamic tradition.
For Muslims, the Qur’an is not only a religious scripture but also a complete guide for life, recited in prayers, memorized by millions, and studied for spiritual, moral, and legal insights. Its style, beauty, and depth have made it a central influence on Islamic civilization, inspiring art, literature, and culture throughout history.
