Nigeria’s Constitutional Review
The ongoing constitutional review in our national assembly is a step and welcome development, and also an opportunity to afford Nigerians to make amend and change lacunas inherent and hindering us from emerging a stronger economy in Africa and the rest of the world. It has been evident for quite some time in the life of our nation, that our constitution we have been managing since we got our independence had not done us any better, in the sense that national cohesion, the constitution supposed to engender to us is lacking as it has been noted in every of our national life to the extent in some part of the country, still cry blue-murder and demands for its change due to marginalization and other teething issues that had balkanized us and caused us pains and suffering, bedeviling our steps from collective progress which have became our bane and realities. And in the past, several attempts had been put forward in terms of constitutional reforms to ameliorate these envisaged problems but all to no avail. But this recent attempt by our elected representatives from seven hundred and seventy-four local government areas in the country in the present constituted national assembly that consists of four hundred and sixty-nine members must put up a good fight in seeing that appropriate plans are on ground and to put the nation on the right page, if we refuse to wish away this golden opportunity this time round to do the right thing. And that is why we are asking all hands must be involve in straightening all the likely grey and dark areas in our constitution in order to see us succeed at the end of the day and henceforth afterwards. Therefore, all stakeholders across the federating units of our country must do their homework and groundwork in harnessing their viewpoints base on altruistic values that would enhance our national cohesion during the time-out instead of engaging in petty ethnic chauvinism since our strengths is drawn from our heterogeneous nature. It is when all these would be memoranda are properly collected, harvested and analyzed on national interest above personal and ethnic-religious perspectives that we can work for our common purposes with vigor for our dearest motherland called Nigeria in the global community. And truly, we would emerge stronger and better nation when carried forward despite the negative effects of the global pandemic that have ravaged our world. We are waiting fervently for the successful constitutional review sessions, for the betterment of all Nigerians and for the brotherhoods of our peaceful co-existence and the world, after much talk about deliberations.
