BREAKING: Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has filed a fresh N10 billion suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The ex-governor instituted the suit against the ICPC for allegedly preventing him from having access to his wife, Mrs Aichatou Asabe, and son, Abba El-Rufai, while in custody.

El-Rufai, in the suit filed by his lawyer, Ubong Akpan, also named the ICPC chairman and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) as 2nd and 3rd defendants.

The originating motion, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1852/2026 and filed on Aug. 13, was sighted on Sunday by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

The detained ex-governor, who alleged that his wife and son were denied to see him, sought nine reliefs. He prayed the court to declare that his fundamental human rights guaranteed under Part IV of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) remain inviolable and in force notwithstanding his detention by the commission and should be honoured.
He prayed the court to declare that his repeated refusal and/or prevention from access to his family members while in custody, particularly to provide him with food, medication and other necessities, without any lawful justification or court order, breached his rights.

He said these rights are guaranteed under Sections 34 and 37 of the Constitution and Articles 5 and 18 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

El-Rufai sought a declaration that the physical restraint, intimidation and treatment meted out to Asabe and Abba by ICPC’s officers on July 7, as well as their alleged arbitrary interference with the spousal and filial relationship, amounted to a violation and breach of his right to the dignity of the person as well as his right to private and family life.
He sought “a declaration that the respondents’ continued denial of family access without lawful authority is unconstitutional, illegal, null and void.

Today, I celebrate Mallam and Aunty Asia Mohammad Ahmad El-Rufai as they mark 27 years of marriage. Aunty Asia is the glue of our family. She has always been as a mother and will always be. I still remember her taking me back to Zaria Academy when I was in JSS1. She is an avid reader, a brilliant lawyer, and a woman whose compassion has always extended beyond her immediate family. During Mallam’s time as Governor of Kaduna State, she devoted herself to supporting and working with some of the most vulnerable people in our society, particularly widows and orphans. As her children, we are very proud of her and we pray for her everyday. She has always protected and guided me and went out of her way to campaign for my candidature. Every good thing we continue to do for Kaduna North is due to the teachings and knowledge she has imparted in me since I was 11 years old. Every bad thing is my fault.

Over the years, I have also witnessed her strength and unwavering support for Mallam through the different seasons of his life. And especially now, as he continues to endure his illegal detention, her steadfastness, strength and presence have been a source of comfort and support. Twenty-seven years is a significant milestone, and today is a moment to appreciate the journey, the memories and the many lives touched along the way.

Happy 27th wedding anniversary, Baba El-Rufai my mother, Aunty Asia. May Allah continue to bless your marriage, grant you both good health and peace, and give you many more years of grace, happiness and beautiful memories together. May Allah reward you for the love, kindness and service you have shown to others. I plead with the good people of Kaduna North to pray for both of them.

It may not bother some people, but the continued detentNasir El-Rufail-Rufai is not about justice; it is political vendetta. It is easy to look the other way because he is not your headache, and perhaps because you don’t consider him a nice person. But that is exactly how oppression works, it becomes acceptable when the victim is someone we dislike. Once injustice is tolerated against one person, it becomes easier to use it against everyone else.

I am pleased to announce the following appointments into the Campaign Council:

1. Dr. John Markus Ayuba– Director General.
A distinguished academic, seasoned banker, and experienced public servant. He holds a PhD in Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (where he was adjudged best in the PhD qualifying examination), lectured at ABU for seven years (1981–1988), and built a successful career in banking, including as Divisional Head for Corporate, Commercial and Retail Banking (North) at Diamond Bank. He served as Kaduna State Commissioner for Finance (under late Governor Patrick Yakowa) and later Commissioner for Water Resources (under Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero). He was the 2023 PDP deputy governorship candidate for Kaduna State and has deep roots and stakeholder leadership experience in Zangon Kataf / Southern Kaduna. His blend of academic excellence, financial expertise, and political experience strengthens the campaign’s strategic leadership.

2. Hon. Bashir Ibrahim Sakadadi – Deputy Director General (Operations).
A respected grassroots political leader associated with the Sakadadi community in the Sabon Gari area of Kaduna State. He brings practical experience in local mobilisation, constituency engagement, and operational coordination at the community and local-government levels, key assets for effective campaign delivery across the state.

3. Hon. Mukhtar Lawal Baloni – Secretary
A proven local-government administrator who served as Vice Chairman and then Chairman of Kaduna North Local Government Area (approximately six years of continuous service). During his tenure he prioritised Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) growth, education, health, social/humanitarian interventions, and infrastructure improvements, leaving a record of tangible delivery and zero liabilities for his successor. He has strong networks in urban Kaduna politics and recently realigned politically in pursuit of people-centred platforms.

These appointments bring together proven administrative competence, financial and academic depth, grassroots operational capacity, and local-government delivery experience. Together they form a capable team ready to drive a focused, professional, and people-oriented campaign.

Atiku Abubakar is putting the economic debate where it belongs: inside the Nigerian household.

Governments can celebrate GDP growth, foreign reserves and impressive macroeconomic charts, but families judge an economy differently.

Can a salary still pay the rent?

Can parents feed their children without borrowing?

Can a young couple realistically save toward a home?

Can a worker replace a car, buy basic household appliances or make a major purchase without destroying years of savings?

Atiku’s latest intervention, drawing on the CBN Household Expectations Survey, highlights precisely this problem: too many Nigerians are being priced out of the basic markers of a decent middle-class life.

That is why his economic argument should go beyond headline statistics and introduce a Family Balance-Sheet approach to government.

Measure real wages.
Measure food costs.
Measure rent.
Measure transport.
Measure household savings.
Measure whether families can once again buy homes, cars and durable goods.

Tinubu’s administration can point to improving macroeconomic indicators, but statistics become politically meaningful only when the improvement reaches ordinary families.

Atiku’s strength is that his economic philosophy has consistently placed private enterprise, investment and household opportunity at the centre of national development.

The 2027 economic question should therefore be simple:

Is Nigeria merely becoming richer on paper, or are Nigerians themselves becoming economically stronger?

A successful economy is not one that produces beautiful government presentations.

It is one in which families can plan, save, invest and dream again.
