JUST IN: Armed Forces of Nigeria Moves to Arraign Officers Over Alleged Coup Plot

The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has announced the conclusion of investigations into sixteen officers arrested in October 2025 over alleged acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations.

In a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the Defence Headquarters confirmed that the investigative process has been completed and the final report forwarded to the appropriate superior authority in line with extant military regulations.

According to the statement, the comprehensive investigation was conducted in strict accordance with established military procedures and examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel. The findings revealed that some of the officers are facing serious allegations, including plotting to overthrow the government—actions described as inconsistent with the ethics, values, and professional standards expected of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Major General Uba stated that officers found to have cases to answer will be formally arraigned before appropriate military judicial panels to face trial under the Armed Forces Act and other applicable service regulations. He emphasized that the process is designed to ensure accountability while upholding the principles of fairness and due process.

The AFN reiterated that the actions being taken are purely disciplinary and form part of its institutional mechanisms to maintain order, discipline, and operational effectiveness within the military. The statement further reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to professionalism, loyalty, and unwavering respect for constitutional authority.
