Our attention has been drawn to rumours claiming that Comr. Aminu Haruna Maipampo has stepped down from the race for NANS President to contest for the office of Secretary General.

We state categorically that this information is false, misleading, and should be disregarded entirely. Comr. Aminu Haruna Maipampo remains fully in the race for NANS President.

It is painful that at a critical moment like this, some individuals we consider brothers by shared tradition, culture, and long-standing relationships have chosen personal interests and immediate gains over collective aspiration and solidarity.

Movements are tested in difficult moments. Positions and influence come and go, but principles, loyalty, and history remain. Leadership should be determined by competence, vision, and credibility not misinformation, pressure, or personal arrangements.

We remain focused. We remain committed. We remain in the race.

SAFE JOURNEY AND WELCOME TO NANS 2026 NATIONAL CONVENTION

Dear Distinguished Students, Senators and Esteemed Stakeholders,

As we converge from far and near for the historic NANS 2026 National Convention in Abuja, I extend my warmest greetings and heartfelt appreciation to every comrade making the journey to participate in this great gathering of Nigerian students.

I pray that Almighty God grants everyone safe and peaceful travels to and from the Convention venue. May every journey be free from difficulties, accidents and all forms of hindrances.

I want to use this medium to wish you a happy, comfortable and successful stay throughout the Convention period. May your time here be productive, memorable and filled with fruitful engagements that will advance the collective interest of Nigerian students.

As we gather to shape the future of our dear association, let us embrace unity, maturity, mutual respect and the true spirit of comradeship. Nigerian students don’t need another loud voice. We need a unifier who can bring the zones together, negotiate with authorities, and get results on the issues that actually affect us: fees, welfare, security, and academic calendar stability.

That’s why I’m backing Comrade MAIPAMPO for NANS President.

1. Unifying where it matters

NANS has been fractured by zone politics and ego-driven leadership. MAIPAMPO’s approach has always been to build bridges first. He’s worked across Northern, Western, Eastern, and Southern structures without picking sides. That’s the kind of temperament the presidency needs if we want a single, credible voice speaking for students again.

2. Results over rhetoric

The office of President is about negotiation, mobilization, and follow-through. From past interventions, has shown he can sit with stakeholders, push for concessions, and communicate outcomes back to students without sugarcoating. No empty press releases. Just clear demands and visible follow-up.

3. Protecting the student interest

Under his leadership, the focus stays on student welfare: resisting unjust fee hikes, pushing for faster disbursement of bursaries, and making sure campus security and welfare issues don’t get ignored at the national level. The presidency should be a shield for students, not a platform for personal clout.

NANS at the national level only works if the president can carry every zone along and hold the line when it matters. Aminu Haruna Maipampo has the network, the discipline, and the track record to do that.*

Mai Kero Clinches APC Ticket for Kaduna South Federal Constituency 2027

Hon. Hussaini Abdulkarim Ahmed Ahmed, popularly known as Mai Kero, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for Kaduna South Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Sharifudeen Ibrahim Muhammad, the office said Mai Kero secured the ticket through a consensus arrangement ratified by the party.

The results were announced on Saturday at the APC State Secretariat in Kaduna by Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Senator Yakubu Hussaini. According to him, Mai Kero polled 1,130 affirmative votes to emerge winner. He added that the exercise was conducted in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.

Mai Kero, who represents Kaduna South Federal Constituency and serves as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Host Communities, thanked the APC leadership, delegates, and the people of Kaduna South for their trust and support.

He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and Kaduna State Governor Malam Uba Sani, CON, for their leadership and commitment to party cohesion and development in the state.

The lawmaker acknowledged fellow contenders who stepped down from the race, including Hon. Kabiru Yakubu Jarimi, for their sacrifice toward party unity. He said he was extending the hand of fellowship to them and called on all aspirants to work together for APC’s victory in 2027.

“This victory belongs to the people of Kaduna South. It is a mandate to continue the work we started in delivering quality representation, infrastructure, education, and empowerment programs,” Mai Kero said.

Since assuming office, Mai Kero has facilitated free eye care and surgery for over 5,000 people across Kaduna State, constructed more than 10km of roads in Kaduna South Federal Constituency, and provided educational scholarships both locally and internationally.

He also oversaw the construction of N1.5 billion educational facilities at Government Girls Secondary School Maimuna Gwarzo and a state-of-the-art Skills Acquisition Center at Kurmin Mashi. Other interventions include youth and women empowerment programs, and support for farmers.

On legislative work, he single-handedly sponsored a bill addressing land degradation caused by yearly flooding in Kaduna South Local Government, with a focus on accessing Ecological Funds for remediation.

He pledged to build on these gains and work with all stakeholders to ensure greater development for the constituency.

MAIPAMPO CLEARED TO CONTEST NANS PRESIDENCY

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Independent Convention Planning Committee has screened and cleared leading NANS Presidential Aspirant, Comrade Aminu Haruna Maipampo, to contest in the forthcoming national convention.

This was contained in a three-page official document titled “Official Update on Screening and Verification Results”, duly signed by the Chairman of the Committee, Comrade Omotayo Oladele Samuel, and the Secretary, Comrade Suleiman Muhammad, GCNS.

With this clearance, Comrade Maipampo has met all constitutional requirements set by the Committee and is now fully eligible to participate in the race for the NANS Presidency.

Comrade Maipampo, widely known for his grassroots mobilization and student advocacy, expressed appreciation to the Committee for a transparent process and reaffirmed his commitment to a student-first agenda focused on welfare, academic reforms, and national unity.

The NANS national convention is expected to hold in the coming weeks.
