🚨 URGENT PUBLIC APPEAL TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, NIGERIA POLICE FORCE, BAUCHI STATE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, NHRC & HUMAN RIGHTS ADVOCATES
WHERE IS JENNIFER — NOW REPORTEDLY CALLED “FATIMA”?
I am calling for an URGENT AND IMPARTIAL INVESTIGATION into the case of JENNIFER, A 16-YEAR-OLD CHRISTIAN GIRL, who is reportedly now under the care/control of SHEIKH ADAM ASHAKA and is reportedly being called “FATIMA” after embracing Islam.
This is NOT an attack on Islam or religious freedom.
The serious issue is whether a minor was removed from her parents' lawful care and whether her parents are now being denied access to their daughter.
🇳🇬 WHAT DOES NIGERIAN LAW SAY?
CHILD RIGHTS ACT 2003 — SECTION 27(1):
«“No person shall remove or take a child out of the custody, charge or care of the child's father, mother, guardian or other person having lawful care or custody of the child against the will of the father, mother, guardian or other person.”»
The Act provides serious criminal punishment, including imprisonment, depending on the circumstances of the removal.
The Criminal Code also contains offences concerning kidnapping, abduction and unlawful deprivation of liberty, with imprisonment applicable where the required elements of the offence are established.
☪️ WHAT DOES THE QUR'AN SAY?
«“THERE SHALL BE NO COMPULSION IN RELIGION.” — QUR'AN 2:256»
Therefore, if Jennifer genuinely chose Islam, LET HER CHOICE BE VERIFIED FREELY, PRIVATELY AND WITHOUT PRESSURE.
But if she was unlawfully removed, threatened, confined, coerced or prevented from contacting her parents, LET THE LAW TAKE ITS COURSE — REGARDLESS OF RELIGION OR STATUS.
I CALL ON THE AUTHORITIES TO:
🔴 LOCATE AND PROTECT THE CHILD.
🔴 HEAR HER INDEPENDENTLY.
🔴 ESTABLISH WHETHER SHE LEFT FREELY.
🔴 INVESTIGATE ANY POSSIBLE VIOLATION OF THE CHILD RIGHTS ACT OR CRIMINAL LAW.
🔴 ENSURE HER SAFETY AND FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS.
NO RELIGIOUS TITLE SHOULD PUT ANYONE ABOVE THE LAW.
NO CHILD SHOULD BE USED AS A TOOL FOR RELIGIOUS CONVERSION OR CONFLICT.
LET THE TRUTH BE ESTABLISHED. LET THE LAW SPEAK.
