Hamas said on Friday, July 4, that it had given a “positive” response to the latest ceasefire and hostage deal proposal for Gaza and was ready to begin indirect talks with Israel immediately to resolve the remaining issues.

The deal reportedly includes a 60-day ceasefire and the release of 10 living hostages and 18 bodies.

In an official statement, Hamas said: “The movement has delivered its response to the brotherly mediators, which was characterized by a positive spirit. Hamas is fully prepared, with all seriousness, to immediately enter a new round of negotiations on the mechanism for implementing this framework.”

However, sources familiar with the talks told Axios that Hamas had given Qatari mediators three reservations it wants to discuss in indirect talks with Israel and the United States.

Hamas is demanding that, once a ceasefire begins, the United Nations take over the delivery of humanitarian aid in Gaza, excluding the Israel- and U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. It also wants the IDF to pull back to positions held before the collapse of the previous ceasefire in March.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump announced what he called a “final proposal” for a 60-day ceasefire in the nearly 21-month war between Israel and Hamas, saying he expected responses from both sides within hours.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump welcomed Hamas’s “positive spirit” and said a ceasefire agreement could be reached as early as next week.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is due to meet Trump in Washington next week, has not yet commented on the proposal.

It remains unclear whether Israel and the United States consider Hamas’s reservations limited enough to move forward with proximity talks.

Pentagon official Colonel Nathan McCormack was removed from his position at the Joint Chiefs of Staff for posts calling Israel a “death cult,” referring to Netanyahu and his ilk as “Judeo-supremacist cronies,” and asking whether the US is functioning as Israel’s proxy.

McCormack was serving as the Levant and Egypt branch chief at the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s J5 planning directorate.

: Israel has retaliated to Iran’s barrage of strikes earlier this month. The Israeli military said it hit “precise” military targets in Iran early on Saturday (October 26), the latest attack in the intensifying conflict between the bitter foes.
