Birnin-Gwari Group Commends CDS, Raises Concern Over Detention Of Army Captain
The Birnin-Gwari Vanguard for Security and Good Governance has commended the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, for his unwavering commitment to tackling banditry and terrorism in Northern Nigeria and other security-challenged areas.
The group, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Ibrahim Abubakar Nagwari, on Friday, lauded the CDS’s directive to security forces to eliminate terrorists and their collaborators without waiting for clearance from Abuja.
However, the group expressed concern over the detention and arraignment of Captain M. Abubakar, popularly known as Singham, over the alleged killing of a suspected terrorist informant, Dangwari, at Udawa along the Birnin-Gwari–Kaduna highway.
According to the statement, both the District Head and the Imam of Udawa had confirmed Dangwari’s activities with terrorists.
The group noted that Captain Abubakar, who was celebrated for liberating Udawa, Kuriga, and Birnin-Gwari from the grip of terrorists, was now being prosecuted for carrying out the mandate given to security forces.
“This unfortunate situation risks dampening the morale of our gallant officers and men who continue to make immense sacrifices to secure our nation,” the statement read.
The group called on the CDS to urgently review the matter to ensure justice, while also urging military authorities to avoid any action that could undermine the dedication and courage of security personnel.
