*IN PICTURES:* Nigeria would have had to borrow over ₦4 trillion in 2025 alone just to sustain the petrol subsidy if President Bola Tinubu did not courageous remove the friendly thorn.

According to the Nigeria Revenue Service, if international oil prices benchmarked at $120 per barrel, the annual fuel subsidy bill would have ballooned to between ₦38 trillion and ₦52 trillion.

Nigerians who are still doubting/criticizing the foundational and structural reforms of President Bola Tinubu's administration will surely praise and idiolize him in the future to come.

Renewed Hope, Delivered: Three Years of the Tinubu Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administration

By Mohammed Idris

Today marks the third anniversary of the inauguration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and an opportunity to reflect on the very concrete achievements of the Renewed Hope agenda – a comprehensive eight-point vision designed to touch the lives of every Nigerian and reposition our country.

The agenda – spanning energy and natural resources, agriculture, national security, macroeconomic reform, infrastructure, human capital, economic diversification, and improved governance and public service delivery – is both strategic and comprehensive, ensuring that no one is left out.

On this third anniversary we are very proud to affirm that President Tinubu has kept faith with the Nigerian people on all counts.

We have an economy that has grown to ₦441.5 trillion in 2025, up from ₦309.5 trillion in 2023. Inflation has more than halved – from the 34.80% recorded in December 2024 to 15.69% in April 2026. Nigeria's non-oil exports surged to $6.1 billion in 2025, an 11.5% increase over 2024; while Federation tax revenue collection rose from ₦19.9 trillion in 2023 to ₦28.3 trillion in 2025.

Monthly disbursements by the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) have doubled to over ₦2 trillion, from less than ₦1 trillion in 2023, while foreign capital inflows have grown nearly 90% – from $12.32 billion in 2024 to $23.22 billion in 2025. External reserves have this year hit a thirteen-year high of $50 billion.

Under President Tinubu, the Nigerian Exchange Group's All Share Index (ASI) has surpassed the 250,000 mark – up from 55,000 in May 2023. Equity market capitalisation is up five-fold, to ₦160 trillion.

Oil and gas continue to be a mainstay of our national economy, even as we pursue diversification and grow our non-oil exports and revenues. Our oil production increased by 400,000 barrels per day between 2023 and 2025, delivering the highest onshore production level in 20 years. In 2024 and 2025, Nigeria captured 40% of the value of Africa's upstream petroleum final investment decisions (FIDs), amounting to over $8 billion.

In the midstream petroleum sector, the Presidential CNG and Electric Vehicle initiative has mobilised over $2 billion in public and private investments, creating tens of thousands of new jobs while providing transport relief to hundreds of thousands of Nigerian commuters and households.

The National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has now benefited over 1.5 million students across 301 institutions, disbursing close to ₦300 billion in student loans and upkeep allowances.

In 2025, Nigeria formally exited the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list, marking a new era in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing.

Looking at where Nigeria stood when President Tinubu came into office, and where it stands today, there is no doubt that carefully designed reforms have helped the country navigate one of the most challenging eras in its history. We have resolved the previously intractable fuel subsidy problem, brought our tax laws into the 21st century, and built a more transparent and accountable fiscal architecture.

A new and enhanced chapter of cooperation with the United States and other partners is delivering significant security gains. Just a few weeks ago, this collaboration helped neutralise one of the most wanted terrorists in the world.

There is still so much to be done, especially in the area of security, which is why it has been one of the biggest areas of recent focus for the President. In addition to investments that will strengthen security and intelligence capabilities, welfare and morale, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is determined to be the Nigerian President who accomplishes the long-awaited fundamental restructuring of Nigeria's security architecture at its very roots.

One of the most practical manifestations of this reform is the establishment and implementation of State Police – reordering a longstanding system so that the security and safety of our communities emerges organically from within, instead of being imposed from far away.

In August 2023, President Tinubu handed me a mandate as Nigeria's Minister overseeing the information and national orientation portfolio. We have worked very hard to advance the Ministry's priorities: restoring credibility to public communications, amplifying the government's policies and programmes, putting our national values back on the national agenda, creating a more enabling environment for the media industry, and modernising technology and talent in our public information systems.

Last November Nigeria received the formal affirmation from UNESCO to host a first-of-its-kind International Media and Information Literacy Institute in Abuja. And next month, we will usher in one of the biggest technology leaps ever seen by Nigeria's broadcast industry – the completion of the long-delayed transition from analogue to digital.

Through partnership and dedication, we have successfully leveraged satellite technology to break a decades-long jinx, and Nigerians will see the impact on their television screens starting next month: a surge in the quality of content, transmission, and competition.

There is much more to highlight than space will permit, but the message is clear and irrefutable: President Tinubu and his administration have boldly confronted Nigeria's toughest challenges, and the country is emerging victorious on all fronts.

We will not slow down or rest – instead we will double down to advance the gains until they cannot be reversed or undone.

Mohammed Idris, fnipr, is Nigeria's Minister of Information and National Orientation.

STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE

FUEL SUBSIDY REMOVAL SAVED NIGERIA FROM BANKRUPTCY, SAYS PRESIDENT TINUBU

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday said the removal of fuel subsidy by his administration saved the country from imminent bankruptcy and laid the foundation for the gradual recovery of the nation’s economy.

He spoke when he hosted state governors who came to celebrate with him the Sallah and the third anniversary of the administration.

In attendance were the Governors of Lagos, Nasarawa, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Taraba, Niger, Ekiti, Delta, Ondo, Edo, Adamawa, Benue, Enugu, Ogun, and Kogi States, as well as the deputy governors of Borno and Kano.

President Tinubu acknowledged that the decision to remove the subsidy was difficult and painful for many Nigerians, but stressed that it became necessary to rescue the country from fiscal collapse and restore economic stability.

According to the President, the country had spent enormous resources for years on unsustainable subsidy payments that benefited only a few while denying critical sectors of the economy the investments they needed.

"It was challenging at the time, but we survived. We face litigation and accusations. We survived them. Instead of bankruptcy, Nigeria has survived. The economy has recovered. It is growing. Agriculture is booming.

"Today I was watching some clips of the Sokoto -Badagry axis. Imagine how many dams on that corridor for irrigation, for farm land, for electricity. Well, many of you have survived and promoted the perseverance of many of our people, asking them to trust this government, and you have built that trust around one person: my leadership. I thank you very much’’ the President said.

President Tinubu also thanked Nigerians for their patience, resilience and understanding, assuring them that the difficult phase was gradually yielding positive outcomes.

The President said ongoing reforms in infrastructure, agriculture, social investment, foreign exchange management and fiscal discipline were beginning to restore investor confidence and improve economic prospects.

President Tinubu also commended the Governors for their cooperation, support and commitment to national development, noting that the partnership between the federal and state governments played a vital role in stabilising the economy.

`` I'm glad governors are no longer borrowing from the federal government and asking for interventions and not knowing how to survive, how to pay salaries, no more. You kept the spirit, you kept the hope. You persuaded our people to be patient and endure these three years of painful reform, during which we put the economy on a reset. Today, the benefits are showing.
`
"The economy has recovered. Macroeconomic indices are doing very well. Construction is ongoing on roads and infrastructure; the ones abandoned have been rehabilitated.

"The housing industry is coming on very well. Agriculture will prosper again. We will achieve food sovereignty if we utilise the land that is in your possession and in your various states effectively,’’ he said.

The President assured Nigerians that his administration would continue to implement people-oriented policies aimed at reducing hardship, creating jobs, strengthening food security and ensuring inclusive economic growth.

Vice President Kashim Shettima commended the President's doggedness, tenacity and courage in confronting corruption in Nigeria's oil industry in the name of the fuel subsidy.

`` Your Excellency, Mr President, this is the essence of your leadership. You did not come to power in the season of ease. You came at a time when the house required more than a canter. It required a builder with the courage to examine the foundation you inherited.

``In that defining hour, you choose not to postpone the surgery. You choose not to massage the wound. You choose to confront the contradictions that have held this country hostage for 50 years; that is the miracle of your courage.

“What you have done is not simply to administer a government. You have begun the difficult work of re-engineering a nation. You have reminded us that the reform is not a bank; it is a battlefield. It is not a picnic for the chicken-hearted. It is a covenant with the future,’’ Shettima said.

Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who spoke on behalf of the Nigeria Governors` Forum, commended the policy initiatives of President Tinubu, which significantly enhanced the capacity of subnational governments to meet their obligations and execute critical developmental projects.

Abdulrazaq stated that the removal of the fuel subsidy and fiscal reforms led to an increase in revenue accruing to states, enabling them to offset outstanding salaries, pensions, and other financial commitments, as well as to embark on landmark infrastructural and social investment programmes.

"I think the nation was shocked by the audacity of Mr President to implement that serious policy, but today, it benefited immensely from that policy.

"Many states were subject to issuing bonds and borrowing money. Today, states are not going to borrow money; they're not going to issue Bonds. In fact, we're reducing our debt. I urge your Excellency to let them discuss moving the minimum wage to a minimum of N100,000’’ he said.

The Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, thanked the President for stabilising the nation's economy through bold reforms.

"We are the frontline beneficiaries of the innovative approach you brought to bear in governance. We came to join you in thanking Almighty God who made this thing possible. You have virtually recovered Nigeria from the brink of collapse to a state of stability and survival.

`` Your Excellency, we, the field officers at the subnational level, are indeed very grateful. We have assessed your performance, Mr President, and I'm happy to announce that we have scored it a 100 per cent. We thank you for the genius you are, the fatherly role you have played, your interventions in terms of our needs and your vision for the country, moving forward,’’ Uzodinma said.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had earlier welcomed his colleagues to Lagos to celebrate Sallah with the President. He also thanked them for their continued support for the President and urged them to sustain the momentum.

The initiative is designed to enhance the country’s research, science, technology, and innovation ecosystem while supporting the Federal Government’s agenda for economic diversification and sustainable national development.

According to the approved framework, the NRIDF will be managed by a 17-member National Council on Research and Innovation, which will be chaired by the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, will serve as Vice Chairman alongside other members of the Council.

Speaking on the development, Dr. Udeh described the approval as a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s commitment to building an inclusive, sustainable, and innovation-driven economy in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the administration’s target of achieving a $1 trillion Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

When fully operational, the NRIDF is expected to provide strategic funding support for researchers, innovators, technology developers, and startups across Nigeria.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Medical Director of FMC Abuja, who represented the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the event, expressed delight over the completion of the state-of-the-art clinical edifice, noting that the facility would significantly improve healthcare services for Nigerians.
Prof. Saad Ahmed stated that the decision of President Tinubu to personally identify and commission the project underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector in line with its renewed agenda for improved healthcare delivery nationwide.

“The commissioning of this complex demonstrates the importance Mr President attaches to the healthcare sector and his unwavering commitment towards ensuring accessible and quality healthcare for Nigerians,” he said.

The Medical Director disclosed that the Bola Tinubu Complex comprises eight consulting rooms, twin theatre suites, ENT and Ophthalmology departments, a fully equipped laboratory and pharmacy, nine VIP wards, four general wards, a coffee lounge, staff lounge, as well as a dedicated Private/VIP Clinic for dignitaries and private patients.

According to him, the facility is strategically designed to enhance specialist clinical services and contribute to reversing the trend of medical tourism in the country.

“With this development, Nigerians will have greater access to quality healthcare services while strengthening the nation’s capacity to reduce medical tourism abroad,” Prof. Ahmed added.
